I'm a Chemist. I have done some years in Environmental testing, but am now doing engineering. I get a lot of material science work, mostly to do with steels, stainless steels, aluminum alloys. I have loads of testing equipment at my disposal including GC/MS's and a SEM.

  • Does his/her past matter? Does it influence your decision on whether or not to date?

So if a potential partner tells you they slept with 50 people before you would you let that influence your decision on whether or not to date? Say you can tell you will probably be able to fall in love with them. Would you want to fall in love or would you find someone else whom you could be certain thinks sex is something special?

What about mistreating previous partners, cheating or abuse? Someone who is prone to doing such things but seems to really want to make it right with you. Would you risk your heart for a known cheater/abuser?

I find these things closely related. Someone that could just have sex and move on would hurt me. I think my guard would be up against people who have been less than cautious with their love lives.

  • Can you completely accept someone regardless of their past? Or are some things just too much?

Could you date someone who had slept with 50 people, but now realized the error of their ways?

Could you befriend someone who once raped but now see's the wrong?

    Any number of other evils?

    Where is the line?

If you dated someone for a few years got engaged but before the wedding they told you they had murdered or something... what is acceptable and what is too much?

What about if your partner had once been with someone of the same sex?

Does any of this at all matter or can you just accept what they are and forget what they may have been?

  • So I had a dream about aliens invading with infected pizza.?

odd one eh? So the dream went like this... I was on the beach walking along when i noticed that there were all types of pizza boxes scattered along the shore. Sometimes you find a bunch of shoes when a barge tips or something, but this was pizzas and I was confused. So I dragged the pizza back to my lab and examined it and determined it was alien viral infected pizza and that eating would make us aliens. So I went around trying to tell everyone about the virus and they just wouldnt listen. There was this girl from work who i know likes pizza and also lives near the beach, she was down there and was all upset the pizza had gone bad. So I explained the virus problem and she was all worried. But then Pizza began falling from the sky and sure enough, she ran over and ate the first pizza she could and turned into an alien. So i decided to prevent this from happening. I then made some fireworks and shot them up at the pizza.. yeah its odd, but it worked.

  • Need menstration expert for a question, seeking qualified individuals.?

I consider myself somewhat knowledgeable about most things, but I think my lack of eperience with menstration leaves me unable to answer. My wife told me she's a bit worried because her period started and then soon after, mysteriously buggered off. She's on birth control but shes up in a tizzy about being pregnant. Is this sort of thing at least occasionally common, or should I go ahead and tell the kids they got incoming?

  • Whats the hardest question ever asked you?

I was once with me buddies working down a keg at a gathering and we were well along. They were asking Mr. Smarty pants (wink) all sorts of science and math questions. And I was having no trouble with them, it was quite impressive. However after maybe 15 minutes someone asked "Whats the square root of the number of beers you drank?" And for some reason I just was stunned by that. After having had 14, I was simply unable to determine the answer. I sat and thought for a minute and was forced to answer with... "ssshit man, I dunno but i think I might now in about 2 more beers"

  • Sugar-free gum, that's gastrointestinally friendly?

I had a friend ask me about sugar free gum. Shes on a diet and doesnt want to go with anything too high in calories/overall energy. But shes got a sensitive digestion system. Anyone got any information that might help? I've come up with this much:

She had mentioned wanting to know about sugars in sugarfree gum and trying to avoid laxitive like sweeteners. There are only few gums that dont use them.

Sorbital, used as a laxitive-sugarfreegum (orbit, extra, basically almost everything)

Maltitol, laxitive- if anything, worse than sorbitol (Eclipse)

Sodium alginate(gum), maltodextrin(atypical sweetener), ECLIPSE FLASH, winterfrsh thin ice, should be good, low energy

Xylitol, altoids sugarfree gum(cinnamon only!!), some brand named SPRY very good for you, 2/3’s energy of sugar. Not so diet friendly

I recommended the eclipse flash or winterfresh thin ice. The Sugarfree cinnamon altoids uses a sweetener that is in particular very good for you, but not as diet friendly.

  • How much force does an apple tree exert on an apple?

How much force is exerted on an apple of mass 421g by the branch holding it in place? If the tree holds 437 of these apples, whats the force required by the trunk to hold up all the apples if the branches holding the apples weight 84.1kg? Assuming the tree could support not even 1 more apple, what is the maximum amount of force that could be applied without risking its destruction, if the trunk of this apple tree was used as a ram in a penguin squashing factory?

  • Nosebleed in the shower, anyone got any clue?

I've been having some nosebleeds lately and was curious if anyone knew of possible causes. Of the last 3 times ive taken a shower, I've had a nosebleed each time. This doesnt normally happen every time, but often enough tp make me wonder. Occasionally I've had nosebleeds doing other things like once at work, and once playing soccer.

Any ideas? maybe the heat of the water in the shower is raising my blood pressure or something? As far as I know I am entirely healthy, I do not use cocaine, and do not pick my nose. (hoping to stop the jokes before they arrive)

  • What is the correct chemical name for...?

A benzene ring with two -PhD groups attached to adjacent carbons?

And what about if the -PhD groups are in opposition to each other on the same molecule?

A benzene ring with two -4 groups attached to carbons with 1 carbon between them.

If you've got any better ones, i wouldnt mind seeing them.
