  • Why do Russians consider big cities a status symbol?

    It seems that Russians consider themselves superior or a higher status if the city they live in is bigger than another. I am curious if anyone here knows why it matters so much to people there. I understand the difference of a small village compared to Moscow, but I mean more like if one place is 400,000 people they look down on people from a nearby town of 40,000.

    This is the opposite of most places I've been in the world.
