  • Event Photography - Selling Photos Online?

I'm having a heck of a time - this should be a simple no-brainer, but I can't find free or inexpensive shopping cart software for selling photos online. I found one that has the appearance to work like a charm for absolutely free and I love how simple and easy it is... but it has a few hiccups, so I am at a dead end. The free one I found is at showmeproofs.com Hopefully he just started this program and will be fixing and updating.. but I can't wait! :) And I don't do a TON of photography - more of a hobby. So cost is an issue for me.

  • Underage (16) Photography?

Youth is 16. Supposedly living on their own. Wants photos for a portfolio of his. Apparently can't get parents approval because no connection. If I am not going to be using the photos for my business use, but he may use them for whatever purpose, in your experience - would there be any issues with this? I've never run in to this scenario yet. Usually I have parents signature on release form, etc. Personally, I don't see any issues because I won't be utilizing the photos. Kid wants a candy bar or a job, they go get it. If they want a photo session, seems as if they are completely capable of doing that themselves as well.

  • SB600 SB800 TTL Wireless Can you use with softbox/umbrella?

D200, wireless flash utilizing on board flash as commander. Works great in manual 1/128 lights up the portrait subject beautifully at 4' away.

I read that this can be done with TTL though. When I try it, it comes out way underexposed. I've tried in Aperture mode and also in Manual exposure mode. Same issue.

So I go in and bump up the exposure via commander, and it looks comparable to my manual experiments, but at TTL +1. However, the light output from the flash seems greater - also get the eight beeps from the flash indicating that it thinks the batteries are low or the picture is underexposed. It's not the batteries and the pic is underexposed unless I do the +1. But it still gives me the 8 beeps. Confused.

I'd like to work in TTL, but so far manual seems to work the best for me. Any suggestions anybody?

  • Recipe and tricks for LONG ISLAND ICE TEA?

I'm mixing as instructed.. no tequila either. But it's tasting too strong of alcohol and a bit too sour.

I am using 1 part of each, vodka, white rum, gin, triple sec (tried caracao and it was tad better), tad of coke for color, also tried sugar syrup and a bit better. Still too strong in the alcohol department. It tastes like the shitty ones I get at some bars. But I had a few that were to die for, can't figure it out.

Can somebody give me examples of exact brands or what may make it go south if going to cheap on one or something that's making it goofy on me.

  • Strip built vs. stitch and glue? Build your own Kayak? Have you done this?

I'm thinking of building a kayak this winter. If anybody has done this, please let me know what you know - i.e. who you went through... if it's better for a first timer to build their own from scratch, from a kit with all supplies included, etc.

  • Printer, Photo,Cost per Print, Smudge and Scratch Resistant... Epson R380?

I want a printer that I can use for beginning photography. It should last me a year until I find out if I will turn pro pro or not. I am confused as heck by comments on sites about expensive prints. I consider 50c for a 4x6 - paper and ink - doable. But I hear horror stories about cost in Epson, Canon - I tend to stray from HP inkjets... Where can I find accurate info on cost per print etc. I want the smudge and scratch resistant like durabright, etc. So far I like the R380 or RX680 for quality. But I do NOT want to be spending over a $1 for a 4x6 at this point in time.

  • What Portable Printer do you use for event photography?

I'm getting in to event photography. I'm also doing pet photography. So far the pet photography people trust me to pay me and then get the photos later. However, I want to change this style a bit. I want people to get their photos at the time of the session. Even if it's only a 4x6 until they get the enlargements in the mail, etc.

If you conduct event photography and print on site, what do you use and how did you choose what you have? What about power / battery options? And most important.. cost of the friggin inks and paper?

  • 50mm 1.8 vs 300mm 5.6 Head Shots - Camera D40?

What will I see in difference between 300mm 5.6 and a fixed 50mm 1.8 or 2.8 as far as blur out.. for outdoor photography.. head shots/portrait. (other than stepping back 100 feet lol .. well okay.. and maybe clarity.. I'm assuming fixed lenses are much much more crisp than a telephoto at it's max. I probably just answered my question huh?

Does anybody use long (say 200 or 300mm) telephoto for portait or headshot? If yes, why choose that over fixed shorter like a 50MM

  • CAMERAS: Can someone PLEASE show me the difference between f2.8 and f4.0 at 50mm?? (photos)?

I'm looking for actual photo samples... not a wizeguy showing me a photo of a lens with 2.8 shown on it.. OR at least some words on what you think regarding this. The "pros" that I know are telling me.. ohh. huh. i never eally do 2.8.. i guess i could try it and see what happens. Some camera shops.. don't even get that 11 is a smaller aperture than 6.. blows my mind.

Do I spend the extra money on the 2.8 capable of being fixed throughout the focal length.. vs. getting a 3.5-5 or6. looking at lengths between 50-200mm. I know it will allow for more light ... but not as much of an issue as I want blowout or blur out.. whatever ya call it - trying to achieve smallest depth of field for outdoor portrait photography. I'm just not sure it's worth the extra $ for a beginning amatuer with minimal clients or not. Next lens after this one? Probably a different body camera and lens. So I want something that will last me a bit with this camera... and work as a backup camera

  • D40 lens Pet / Senior Portrait and Event Photography?

I am wanting to purchase an AF lens for my D40.. it came with an 18-55. But the 55 only blurs out background if you're on the 55 and focusing about 2 feet from the freaking subject. My next best bet is 50-150 2.8 After that, a sigma 70-200 ex. But the 70 seems like it's too much.. may have to back off the subject? or is this just what i need? I tried the 70-200 in the store and focus was amazingly fast and crisp. What are my other options?

  • digital cameras slr or point n shoot?

lag, manual over-riding, burst, interchangable lenses, size... any other drastic thing I'm missing in the debate of slr vs point n shoot for a non professional .. kick around hobby capture the experience person? I think the lag and lack of burst on the point and shoots is holding me back from leaning towards those.

    Sony DSLR A100K.,

    Olympus E330 evolt, or

  • B.A.R.F. barf raw food diet for dogs?

Of those who feed a BARF diet, what exactly do you feed them.?

I'm interested in examples of actual diets you give your dog.

I have friends that have their dogs on raw, but where I live they don't have the meal packages or they're way too expensive. So we are going to have to do this from scratch. (the veg and fruit part)

I'm not interested in somebody telling me about possibilities of salmonella poisoning, blah blah blah. Go to your local dog food factory and see how much salmonella you can find in the factory. And while you're there ask why most of the food they make is not even absorbed or capable of being absorbed by the dog's system - it's filler and most is bad filler. It's sickening! I've done my research, and I have made up my mind. I've seen results and heard of results.. dogs on their death bed switched to raw and turning 360s. Less vet visits, doctors asking what the flip the people have their dog on because they seem so healthy, etc.

  • Best vacation ever? Longest vacation? Dream vacation?

It seems sickening to me that the longest vacation I've ever taken was 4 days long. Shouldn't it be mandatory that all hard-working people take a paid 2 week vacation (consecutive days) ?

What's the best vacation you've ever experienced?

  • Bread Recipe + How to not dry out?

Looking for a simple bread recipe. We have a Kitchen Aid mixer, so that makes it easier. I've made one bread.. it was mostly a simple one with added honey and oats.

There's a bread that we like Oroweat OatNut Bread. But any type of simple bread would be nice. We like things healthy, but haven't acquired the true wheat taste buds yet. More like a white bread with some chopped nuts of some sort.

    2) Also, what do you do so as to not dry out the bread while in storage for a few days? It's great fresh.. but it dries out really quick.

  • silicone bakeware / cookware ?

Anybody used silicone bakeware? Pros / Cons ? Is it worth it at all? I've heard all negative about these critters, with exception to the sheets that you can lay over the top of an existing pan and they're easier to clean. But I've heard bad things about how horribly they distribute heat and whatnot. And things sticking to them really bad. Any experiences? Please share.
