  • Is the music for the Lloyds Bank advert the most irritating noise on our screens at the moment?

It's on the telly, on the radio - that annoying high pitched "ho-ho ho, ho, .. ho-ho ho, ho, hhheeeeee hoo" music like a pipe whistle accompanied by the cartoon of long-nosed stick people. Gosh it drives me potty and I can't get the music out of my head. I am NEVER going to open an account with Lloyds if that's what they think we want to listen to.

Does it drive you bonkers as well? Or what other advertising music do you hate?

  • My neighbour's dog barks constantly! What can I do to stop it.?

She puts it out in the garden and it yaps constantly, for about an hour on the go. I have tried to speak to her about it, but she said it didn't make a noise (even though it was at her side barking!) so I think she is possibly quite mad. Other neighbours have complained as well. Our local council says we must keep a diary for several weeks and then they may write to her (this whole process takes about six months) but I cannot stand the thought of another few months with this constant racket. I repeat - speaking to her won't help!!Solutions please.

  • Since upgrading to Internet Explorer 7, it won't save my Home Page upon opening?

I recently did the free upgrade to IE7 and always had Google as the default page that opened but now it defaults to MSN. I have gone to Tools - Options - and saved Google as the Home page but, despite this, the next time I start up Internet Explorer it automatically goes to MSN again, even though Google is ticked as the home page. In Control Panel - Internet Options - that is also ticked for Google. Any ideas (in plain English please??) of what is going on here and how to correct it? Please don't refer me to Microsoft's website because they're telling me to do what I have already done above !

  • Who can vote in the American primary elections? Is it only political party members, or can anyone vote?

Is it only members of the Democrat party who can vote on who represents them (Clinton and that other chap), or does every American voter have the right to vote on the party nominees. Say you were a Democrat, can you vote on who will represent the Republican party or are you limited only to vote for your own party. And do you have to be a party member?

    I'm baffled! Please explain!

  • Ideas to celebrate a 50th birthday, please!?

My family is dispersed all over the place so a family and friends get-together is unlikely, so how can I celebrate with my husband, just the two of us? We have had many city breaks, luxury spa weekends, adventure weekends and all that sort of thing and they are not as 'special' any more. What could you suggest as a real 'one-off' luxury that the two of us could share to make a special and memorable day. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

  • Who would be your perfect guests for a perfect dinner party, and why?

Imagine this, you are hosting a dinner party and you can invite anyone - dead or alive - to join you, but a maximum of 6 people. So who would you invite, and why?

  • I'm changing from a pay-monthly to a pay-as-you-go scheme - which is the best one?

I am keeping my old phone and therefore don't want another one, I just want to know which is the best pay-as-you-go tariff if you are a light user. I don't text much or make any calls - in fact the phone is more of an emergency phone. I probably write about 10 texts a month and speak for about 10 minutes on local calls, so I am a very light user.

I had a good contract with Vodafone - would you believe £7 per month with lots of inclusive calls - but they won't renew at that price so I am losing out. So I shall get a pay-monthly card but which one works out at the best value.

And, remember, I do not want a new phone!! So I know there are lots of good deals with inclusive phones but I know I can get a cheaper deal if I stick with the one I have.

Which is the best PAYG for a light user like me?

  • Why do some single mothers expect the State to pay for them?

I expect I'll get some flak for this but it needs to be asked.

There are many single mums out there who have chosen to bring up a child alone. Exclude widows, divorcees and women with unusual circumstances, but concentrate on some girls who 'fall' pregnant and choose to keep their child. There many be many who work but there's also plenty who choose to stay at home and let the tax-payer pick up the bill.

Why do they think that the world should pay for them? What right do they have to take money off of people for their chosen lifestyle?

If you have a child then you should make provision to bring it up - sure, the State can help defray some of the costs but surely it's unreasonable to expect other people to pay for you?

Does anyone agree? If you want to have a child then you should be prepared to put your hand in your pocket and pay the costs, rather than sitting back and letting the rest of the world pick up the bill.

  • Porcelain marks - does anyone know who the manufacturer is?

I have a very small and delicate coffee cup set in fine porcelain with gold edging. The only mark on the bottom is a capital 'N' encircled with a laurel wreath? I cannot find any information on this - does anyone recognise this at all?

  • In her song 'Here's to you', Joan Baez sings about "Nicola and Bart". Who are they?

    The lyrics go:

Here's to you, Nicola and Bart

Rest forever here in our hearts

The last and final moment is yours

    That agony is your triumph

and that is just repeated through the song. So who were Nicola and Bart .... does anyone know?

  • I seem to have offended an elderly friend who won't accept an apology. How can I retrieve our friendship?

I have a friend, in her 70s, who is very formal and 'proper' about things, and we have known each other for years. Recently I visited her town and spent time with her, then went and saw some other friends locally, then the next day drove home (several hundred miles). I then got an email from her saying that she had waited in all day to say goodbye properly, but that I hadn't turned up and clearly it meant that I didn't want her friendship any more. I had seen her the day before and hadn't made any arrangement to see her again during that visit, but it seems that she had gone to a lot of trouble to put together a meal for me (but without checking I was turning up). I rang her to apologise and she was very frosty. Actually I don't feel I need to apologise, since I haven't done anything wrong or broken any rendezvous, but she is clearly very upset and I could tell she had been crying. I feel very guilty, but bewildered, about this. What can I do to put it right?

  • How can I decipher a signature which I know belongs to a famous 1930s/40s French actress or singer? I?

I have a signature which looks a bit like "Lhue Sourzh" (it's very scribbled) on the back of a photo of an elegant 1930s or 1940s lady, from France (it was in a French book). How can I find out who this is - I've asked around but no joy. Anyone got any tips? And, yes, I have googled every combination of the possible names.....

  • Do you agree that the 2012 Olympics are an outrageous waste of money and could be better spent in the UK?

Crumbling hospitals, sub-standard schools, not enough medical staff, closure of medical facilities .....

How much will the 2012 London Olympics actually cost, for just a few weeks' worth of television coverage and some smug pats on the back for the organisers (all banking on OBEs later on).

If London is supposed to benefit from new roads, housing, etc., then why don't we just build this infrastructure without all the associated costs of new stadiums, etc.?

    Who else agrees with me?

  • Who else thinks that Mick Hucknall of Simply Red is the illegitimate offspring of Charlie Drake?

OK, some of you younger ones might have to Google an image of Charlie Drake but, when you get there, don't you think that ol' Simply Red himself has an amazing resemblance to Charlie Drake. Same pug-nosed squinty-eyed goblin sort of face, like you'd find on a gnome in your front garden.

So, am I right or am I wrong?

  • Does anyone know any discount / promotional codes to get reduced fares on P&0 or NorfolkLine ferries, please?

I want to book a one-way crossing next week on their website and the price is rather steep, but there's a box to enter a 'promotional code' to get a discount. Presumably P&O and Norfolk Line must give various groups a code to enter to get a cheaper price ..... so does anyone out there have a code that I could use, please?

    Many thanks in advance.
