  • What type of animal is this (scuba divers or marine biologists please)?

I see this type of animal (about 1-2cm) regularly on my Northwest Pacific scuba dives. What is it?

At first I thought it was a small sea star, but I saw one website label it as a worm. What is it?

  • How do I get my puppy to "potty" in the designated potty area?

I'm following the standard training for potty-training puppies using crates (i.e., taking the puppy out every two or so hours to a potty area).

However, when I take the puppy to the area, he doesn't do his business in his area even with 15 minutes of time. I'm taking him out after meals, exercise, naps, and every few hours otherwise. One time, I waited for about 20 minutes and then brought him back in, where he immediately did his business on the carpet.

  • Is the definition of marriage a form of discrimination against homosexuals?

Is the definition of marriage a form of discrimination against homosexuals?

Basically in the USA, marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman. This is the major argument (other than religion) that people make when trying to prevent gay marriage.

However, if the definition is discriminatory, then this argument is moot. Please express your opinions on this.

  • Is the ban on gay marriage discrimination based on sexual orientation?

Is the ban on gay marriage discrimination based on sexual orientation?

Let's assume sexual orientation is uncontrollable (i.e., putting it a similar category to age, gender, and ethnicity). If so, isn't illegal to discriminate based on sexual orientation?

If it were controllable, then it would be a different issue altogether (It may be; I don't know.).

Please give me answers based on logic and not solely based on religion.

  • If someone ate a human placenta, would that be cannibalism (and illegal)?

I heard rumors of some actor wanting to do that.

Also, what is the limit before something is called cannibalism? I know eating your fingernails, urine, feces, hair, or skin doesn't count. What about blood or bile? What's the limit?

  • If the country is so in need of doctors, why do the universities make the enrollment so limited and difficult?

If the country is so in need of doctors, why do the universities make the enrollment and acceptance so limited and difficult?

Obviously unqualified people shouldn't get the job, as it could be a life-death situation. However, countless of qualified people have been rejected from medical schools due to the great competition. Many more have not applied at all due to the tough competition perceived.

  • What would be the worst name to give to your child?

What would be the worst name to give to your child?

A friend of mine just has an Asian baby boy. I suggested naming him "Latoya", with the middle name "Jackson".

What other terrible names are there to give to your child (Male, Female, Based on Ethnicity, etc.)?

Imagine Latoya going through school with that name. That would be hilarious and very unethical.

  • Where's the love for my homeboy, Darko Milicic?

    http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2007110725

    Where's the love?

15 points, 10 rebounds - Double-double, and he doesn't even get a mention by Yahoo! sportswriter Gregg Bell?

Sure, Rudy Gay and Mike Miller had slightly better nights, but even Lowry, Szczerbiak, Gasol, and Swift got mentioned, not to mention the players who were injured who didn't even play. They all had worse nights.

I sense Milicic bias. They were biased against him in Detroit and Orlando, and now here. Fight the power!!! What's up with this? Where's the love?

  • Have you ever drunken a lot of water and then held your urine in for as long as you could?

Have you ever drunken a lot of water and then gone to the washroom without releasing your urine? For example, what I mean is: Have you ever drunken three liters of water, gone to the washroom, and forcefully withheld your urine as long as is humanly possible?

Do this. It feels sooooooo good after, and you're in a safe environment. However, it may be unhealthy for males.

  • Why do they put Braille dots on the keypad of ATMs?

Why do they put Braille dots on the keypad of ATMs? I've seen this question before in reference to Drive-Through ATMS, as blind people don't drive. But why on normal ATMS? How can blind people read the screen?

I know that section 4.34.4 of the ADA Accessibility Guidelines for Buildings and Facilities states that "Instructions and all information for use [of an automated teller machine] shall be made accessible to and independently usable by persons with vision impairments." But how would it be used?

  • Do you think watching sports can lead to worse grammar?

I'm not talking about grammatical errors from announcers and players. I'm talking about inherent grammatical errors in certain sports. For example, in baseball, we talk about how people "flied out", when it should be how people "flew out." In hockey, "The Toronto Maple Leafs" should be "The Toronto Maple Leaves".

I know I'm being stingy about this, and it's not a problem for me to see some of these errors (except "flied out"). But do you think these inherent errors (I'm sure there are much more) can affect children? I know it's probably not a great effect, if it exists, at least not to the extent of my other question about baseball statistics.

  • Do you think baseball teaches our youngsters bad math?

Do you think baseball teaches our youngsters bad math? Each third of an inning is considered 0.1 innings until the last third is pitched (e.g., if a pitcher pitches 2 2/3 innings, on the stats sheet, he/she pitches 2.2 innings).

Obviously with some of the statistics, it helps with mathematical abilities, but this is a significant erroneous statistic. Also, most baseball stat experts use pure rote memorization for these numbers.

  • How can I become lactose intolerant?

I want to become lactose intolerant. How would I do this? I hate milk, but people keep trying to make me drink milk or ingest milk products, like ice-cream or milkshakes. I want to be able to reject these people without hurting their feelings. Whenever I tell them I don't like milk, they just look so dejected.

I know this is a weird question, and I don't mean to offend anyone with lactose intolerance. I just really want lactose intolerance.

  • My Mozilla Firefox is the latest version, but it doesn't play some videos. Why and how do I change it?

I have the latest version of Mozilla Firefox. However, with this version and even the version I had before it, for some videos, it has an error screen when trying to play the videos (e.g, this video requires additional plug-ins, etc.). I click on the plug-in thing, but it does not give me any files to download (file unknown or something).

Why and how do I change it? The videos work fine in Internet Explorer (which I dislike using), so it's not an internet problem. I've installed and uninstalled Firefox many times.
