  • I'm joining DeMolay and am wondering what it is like.?

I have asked about joining DeMolay before on Yahoo answers, and got very good responses. I recently found out that one of my best friends is the Master Councilor of my local DeMolay chapter. He said that he would be happy to get me a petition and everything, but I have a few more questions, and wanted input from past DeMolay members.

    1. What was the initiation ceremony like?

I know some things can't be told to me because I am not a DeMolay yet, but was it really long, or did you have to memorize ritual beforehand, stuff like that.

    2. How long does it usually take to go from the initiatory degree to the DeMolay degree?

Does it take weeks, months, or like a year? Do you need to memorize A LOT of ritual?

    3. Were you confused about what to do when you went to your first few meetings?

Like what do you do when you don't know the ritual yet? Were you allowed to use a script?

I'm sorry if these questions seem dumb, but I have wanted to join DeMolay for a few years now (from age 12 onward) I have done some research, but i am still full of questions. I'll ask my friend too, but I also wanted all ya'lls input. Thanks!

  • How old must I be to become a Freemason?

I am very interested in becoming a Freemason. I live in Tennessee, and wanted to know the minimum age I need to be to join. I have heard that if you have a father or grand-father that was a Mason, you can be let in at 18, but I do not know if that is true. (My grand-father was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite) At my age (I am older than 12) I know that I could join DeMolay, but the closest chapter is 90 miles away. That makes it nearly impossible for me to go to many meetings. So, if there are any Masons that can answer this for me, I would greatly appreciate it.
