On the show Paranormal State, what was on the bed in the episode "The Messenger"? It was rerun on tonight.

What if the cavemen were skeptics about paranormal activity? To them fire would seem paranormal. We would all be cold right now. What if inventors, chemist, and scientist were all skeptics? We would have no inventions, no medicine, no explanation for anything. Things are paranormal for society until someone produces, invents, or otherwise brings to the normal whatever it is that was not understood. So to the persons (I don't even want to say skeptics because at least skeptics will consider things that are unknown to them) who just refuse to believe there is nothing but their truth, what would the world be like if from the beginning of time everyone only believed what was known to them?
