  • Should we have a Flat Tax?

    Here's the facts:

1)The outgoing Congress failed to pass a new tax bill.

2)The incoming Congress will be forced to deal with this as a first order of business.

3)In November, the Republicans will be taking back control of both Houses. (It really is just a matter of numbers, but this entire planet knows that it will happen.)

    So...why not a Flat Tax?

With an overwhelming sweep of Republican victories all dedicated to cutting both taxes and government spending, is this the time for a Flat Tax?

(Thanks in advance to all the Trolls and Haters out there who will be flagging me, I love you too. hepcatdave@yahoo.com)

  • Why is Economics considered a "social science"?

Honestly, the social sciences can be stretched to encompass any field of study at all so I'm not surprised.

Still, why is it NOT considered a hard science?

My own thought is that so long as it remains a "social" science, the social engineers get to claim it for themselves. The result is that we get political solutions for economic problems.

  • What are your thoughts about a flat tax?

The question is about a FLAT tax, not a "fair" tax or a flat-ER tax....just the flat tax.

So, what do you think? Would you like to see it here in America? What rate do you think we should have?

I think that if we all payed the same RATE of taxation, we could end the class warfare that dominates our political lives. Under the same rate, nobody would get a break, or a loophole.

I think that spending on research and development would boom. Think of it, a company could either pay taxes on income, or take a tax break for spending on research. Either way the money gets spent rather than stuffed into someones pocket.

  • Am I just wacky?! Or will my evil plan work?

I've got an HP machine running a factory install of Win XP.

I bought and installed another hard disk (200 Gig!)

Can I physically unhook the XP drive, install Linux on the new drive, reconnect XP, and expect that they will play nicely?

I ask, cuz I don't know, AND because I have tried for weeks to get the XP drive to format the new disk as NOT NTFS. And since the new drive is not formatted, I can't tell the machine to intall Linux to that drive, which is not formatted because I don't want to format it with GO$@#$$%% NTFS!!!

So I want to resort to the cave man method-physical action.

    But will it work?

  • Advice, having been unemployed for over a year now?

I'm asking for some real advise here, not sympathy.

I was working for a carpenter and loved it.

I got laid off, and started working "under the table" for a different carpenter. And now that's gone too.

Ive been denied unemployment benefits, and the worker retraining which I would like to take is in a declining industry, so I can't get funding for it.

So now I have a gap in my employment history spanning more than one year, and I obviously need to get a real job.

But how do I dig myself out of this hole?

  • Do you think that the tax system should be fair?

So why not a flat tax?

If every American citizen and business paid ten percent of income as a tax, would that be fair?

  • Your thoughts on the 2010 mid-term elections?

During the Clinton Machine administration, Republicans swept both the House and Senate in the mid-term election.

Of course time will tell but...

Do you think that Barry will suffer the same fate?

  • Does anyone remember Ross Perot?

He's that "third party" whack-job that allowed the Clinton's to get elected twice. More people actually voted AGAINST the Clinton's than voted for them. But because the vote was split three ways, the opposition failed.

Same thing happened with Adolph Hitler, that vote was split between FIVE parties. The opposition was there, but too badly split.

Why can't people remember Ross Perot?
