  • Oil and Gas Pipeline Welding , or just regular pipeline question?

I've been taking some classes for SMAW (I don't plan to get LA certified for d1 structural steel, I just want the cert for just the county I live in.) I plan to do structural work for a few years depending when my contract with a future employer is finished, knowing it can be a number of years. Just to fund my way into getting those needed classes for a pipe welding school nearby. (I know for every welding job-site they test you before signing you on, even if you have x numbers of years under your belt, etc etc) I heard only a handful of certs are useful for pipe welding: AWS, ASME, and API that involve pipe welding. Which certificate would you recommend. (i.e. one you got or co-workers have that differentiates the both of you such as 2G OR 6G, and what organization certified you) How much did you start off per hour/yearly salary when pipe-welding. (I know I'm using "pipe-welding" very loosely, but I am interested going where there is work, I don't mind being away from home for whatever timespan lol..) I'm mainly interested in pipeline welding (either Gas or Petroleum, don't really care). There's a school for that in a neighboring city in the same county that certifies API 1104, and ASME B31.3 Process Pipe.. is that good?

And yes I do know if and when I get certified and hired, I'm sacrificing my social life, no alcohol, all that stuff and I'm Okay with that.. Another question hows the pay (as I mentioned above) and I'm always hearing about the elusive 6 months of work with 10 hour shifts or more, and 6 months off. Is the 6 months off and on true? Where have you worked (which state, or country and for how long in a single duration)I know they like the older more experienced welders in pipe but someone has to start off somewhere! Its not like pipe welders or any welder for that matter magically appears.

I know I asked a lot of question sorry, if this goes unanswered I'll just post it on AWS, but I like yahoo better lol. Best Answer gets 10 points. (Got 2 uncles that weld, both are LA certified D1 Structural Steel welders.. They told me pipe is better paying and you can travel the country and stuff if your willing to etc..)

  • Questions about what to I need to bring to Army BCT?

I'm considering in joining the Army within a year. I've already passed the asvab a few months ago.

I know spots for certain MOSes are full and you'll have to wait etc. Plus considering budget cuts... But when I do go to MEPS and talk to a conselour and pick an MOS that corresponds with my scores on the ASVAB what would I need to bring when I'm shipping out? Personal hygeine, boxers, extra clothes, medical records and any other documentation?? And by medical records do I have to go to my doctor/hospital to pick it up or are they just refering to the questionaire that you go through a recruiter and a MEPS doctor??? And anything else that you could think of would be great thanks!

  • Vietnam war era U.S. embassy question?

Every now and then I see documentaries about the vietnam war and how Saigon fell on the History channel. But when it was the day the North came to Saigon in full force. Many South Vietnamese rallied at the U.S. embassy. A couple made it though (not trying to sound like a D-bag) but why couldn't the embassy guards push them back on the other side of the gate. It always make friggin' wonder....

  • Steps on how to buy a gun in California for first time buyers?

I live in CALIFORNIA (JUST A REMINDER AND I KNOW IT'S NOT A GUN FRIENDLY STATE EITHER..) So I was thinking to buy a shotgun 12 gauge AS MY VERY FIRST GUN for target shooting and for home defense and I was wondering what are the steps to buy one. I plan on buying it from Big5. So do I walk in and talk to one of their gun dealers in their shop, tell him I want to buy it and do paperwork or what? I know there's a 10 day waiting period and background checks. I just don't want to walk in the store and look like a dumb @s$ in the store in front of a bunch of people I don't even know including the dealer that'll proably think I'm an idiot. So the starting point is with the dealer right?

And no links they don't really answer anyone the specific questions either o.o

    No harsh coments

    Thanks in advance

  • Question about buying and paying off a BRAND NEW CAR?

Well my parents took out a car around last days of July this year, they qualified for a loan and picked out a brand new car like fresh out of the factory new ( well my mom did the choosing part LOL). So the total amount they owe to the bank is about $20k ($20,000) so my question is if i help them pay it off and I mean in bulk payments like in the thousands in a single payment, how much will their credit score improve. His credit score is really close to 700 and hers is close to 630. And it is possible to make payments around $6,000.00 in a single payment right?

    We live in California.

And no I'm not trying to troll. No HARSH COMMENTS PLEASE. Times are tough so gotta help out others :P

  • Do hospitals carry a casts for backs or something similar?

Ok so yesterday I F@#$ED up my back and the pain is excruciating. It got worse today and I can't even get up without someone aiding me or getting up with a cane...When I lay down I can move on my sides etc.. I can't lean forward, on bend down to tie my shoe and turn fast as well. And when I sit I can feel like my spine popping a few times every time I sit. From a number of 1 to 10 it's a 7.. So do hospitals carry casts for back/spines or something to help it heals or some sort of support? The pain started in the lower back but it's working it way up to the upper area.. 3 years prior to this I messed it up but the pain comes and goes once a month but for like an hour.. It feels like someone is running a knife into my spine up and down and my spine feels hot when this pain comes.. and 2 weeks ago I helped out my brother move from his house back down to our hometown/city.. He made me help him lift up a ton of crap and I can't help but feel this added to my cause. I'm going to the hospital today. And I know I waited a day I'm dumb o.o And I'm 18 :'P

  • Is the Houston job market good?

So I have some family that's living in Houston from my dads and moms side of the family. They're telling me that the job market in Houston is pretty good. I got a cousin who works at some warehouse or factory, I'm not sure which one, he told me he can get me in on the spot. And if I don't like it then there's other jobs to be filled at other job sites around town. I just want a personal opinion from people who live/work there. I just really want to reassure myself before Ieave in a month ( And by job market I mean the energy sector, warehouses, factories etc..)

  • Question about my family tree, Im confused!?

Ok I'm re-posting this question because it didn't go thru the first time. Ok here we go..

So my mom has 2 cousins that she grew up with, both are female..

When they turned 18 they cut of all family ties (by that I don't mean because of a family feud, I mean by starting a family.)

So they went on with their lives and went to different states to start their lives/family. One of the two lives in California, which is my home state while the other lives in Texas..

So the 2 cousins started their families and I was told by my other cousins and aunts that we're related to their kids I was told they're my cousins.. Which is about almost two dozen people I've never met in my life before.

And I was very skeptical at the time and still am at the moment, of them being related to me..

So my big question is are they related to me at all, as in cousins or not I'm confused as hell right now.. Please help! Also idk how the 1st 2nd or 3rd cousin thing come into play.. So can you place that into your answer as well.. lol sorry not very good with family trees..

  • Does infantry school require any security clearance?

Does infantry school for the U.S. Army require any security clearance? I have no criminal background. Are there any other MOS that don't require a security clearance? I'm curious and joining up this year or next year and I am a high school graduate of 2012. And physically fit. And I just need to retake the ASVAB again =/

Please no hateful comments, and thank you for your time. And service.

  • Can a FaceBook page ban you?

What I mean is what I stated in the question, can a FB page ban you from commenting or mute you so you won't comment on their page? I ask this because I'm just an average Joe that plays video games here and there every once in while. The game in particular is BattleField 3 and I posted on their official FB saying that they sold out their community by selling all the weapons and vehicle upgrades for money. And saying their servers are unbalanced etc. So can they or can they not?

  • The Army sends investigators for everyone?

I plan on enlisting in the last months of 2012 or early 2013. Anyways I heard that the Army and all the other service branches sends an investigator to learn everything about you? Do they do this to all recruits? Or just the ones that need secret security clearance? Do all recruits need a secret security clearance?
