Looking at the possibility of moving to south Wales this year. It makes sense for me location-wise, offering plenty of countryside and 2 major cities nearby. Chepstow and Caldicot both strike me as nice (I'm a history buff so all the castles in the area help) while Newport seems, well.... less desirable but more convenient.

My question(s):

What are Chepstow and Caldicot like to live in? (Think crime rates, amount of chavs, general friendliness of the people, local amenities, transport links, etc)

Are there any decent areas of Newport, and if so, where?

Have I overlooked anywhere? (needs to be roughly between Chepstow and Cardiff)

I'm looking seriously into moving to Bristol sometime in the next few months. I want to be fairly close to the city centre (As I don't have a car and don't want to have to rely on the buses) but at the same want somewhere affordable, and preferably where I won't get stabbed.

What sort of areas should I be looking at? And more importantly, which areas should I avoid like the plague?

OK, so at the end of a text or email, apparently there's some sort of code about what each number of x's means. IIRC 3 is love, but what's 1 and 2?

Anyone know, or is this all absolute bollocks and there's really nothing to it?

I'm considering a move to London, hoping there might be more opportunities there than in this backwards town I'm stuck in at the moment, but I'm not sure what area(s) I should be looking at.

Ideally I'd like to be close the centre of London, somewhere there's plenty of job opportunities, some decent nightlife (Not necessarily clubs so much as bars and restaurants), decent public transport links, and where rent is reasonably affordable. Of course, I don't want to find myself in the middle of some gang-infested estate where I'm likely to get stabbed.

So which areas fit the bill?

Anyone else pleasantly surprised by Janice Dickinson's appearance on 8 Out Of 10 Cats tonight? The way she's interacting with David, with Jimmy, and with Sean has me in absolute stitches, I can't remember a funnier episode.

And all the while Lauren Laverne's just sat quietly in the corner, I almost forgot she was there.

Seriously, I they need to get Janice back for more.

I remember reading something a couple of years ago claiming that Australia has never formally declared, or been granted, independence from the UK. This has caused a little debate between my flatmate and girlfriend, and they've actually bet money on it, so, if you actually know, please help us clear this up once and for all.

Please note, I'm not interested in being told that Australia is independent because they have their own government, etc. I know that. What I am looking for is whether or not a formal decleration or granting of independence has ever been made, and when.

What do the Turks call the area comprising Greece, macedonia, and the rest of the Hellenic/Thracian area on the European side of the Aegean?

Also, what, if anything different, did the Ottoman Empire refer to that area as?

I've not been feeling that great for a couple of days now, but it wasn't so bad at first. However, yesterday morning my upper lip felt like it was on fire and my wrists and elbows were itching like crazy and developing a slight rash.

Yesterday evening, and all through the night (I work nights) and still now, my upper lip feels dry and pinched, though it feels normal to the touch. my wrists and inner elbows still have a slight rash, and itch, my neck also itches now. I've been feeling very hot and I am struggling to maintain concentration on anything.

It has come to my attention that the US government holds a lottery to distribute Green cards to people around the world who wish ti immigrate to the United States.

However, British citizens are not eligible to enter unless they have non-British parents.

Does anyone know why Brits aren't allowed to enter?

A friend of mine (who has a japanese wife) tells me his wife's green card is actually pink.

This being the case, does anyone know why it's called a Green card?
