  • Archeology Question on item for report. Please Read.?

I am taking an Introductory Archeology course and my professor has given the class an assignment to date an item and show it's evolution. He gave some examples like Nike shoes and Coke-Cola bottles and stated that he wants us to be able to identify WHY we can date the item to the specific time. (for example the Nike shoes... We can see that the colors are similar to clothing in the 90's or they used extra stitching, different rubber...etc)

I am having a hard time selecting what I'd like to research on and that's why I'm looking for your advice.

I did consider doing buttons but after doing minimal research I discovered that buttons have been around since ancient Rome and I don't think a 4 page paper (he said nothing longer than 4 pages) will allow me to fully go into that items evolution. So I guess I'm needing ideas on something made no later than the 1900's that I can easily access changes in it's looks and manufacturing process.

    Your input is appreciated!

  • What words should I look out for on labels to identify a food item as non-vegan?

I am switching from Vegetarian to Vegan and I am wondering if there are words I should look out for on food labels to identify it as non-vegan.

    for example.. Calcuim Sorbate?

Is there any way to easily tell if something is vegan (obviously unless it clearly states that on the label)

    Thanks for the help!

  • How to ask if its ok to speak English in Montreal?

I will be traveling to Montreal this May and since I do not speak French I want to make sure I am not being rude by assuming that everybody will be able to understand my English or even want to talk in English. I was talking to an acquaintance who said that when he visited he was told a phrase to say upon entering a conversation with somebody from Montreal that will, for lack of a better phrase, ask for their permission to speak in English. Is this proper? If so can you tell me what that is so I don't go around insulting people like a stereotypical American tourist?

    Thank You!

  • Can I travel from Michigan to Canada with these items?

My boyfriend and I are taking a two week road trip vacation through Canada and I want to know if bringing these items will be ok past border control. Here are some details.

Two of us will be traveling with the Michigan "enhanced" licenses

We will were hoping to put our mattress in the back of our van and use that to sleep at different campgrounds to save money on hotel prices. Would border control give us a hard time for having a bed in the back of our van? Its a chevy astro and we will be removing the seats to fit our bags and bed. I've looked through the canadian border site but have found nothing about beds being outlawed but I would assume that most people traveling with beds are in a camper type vehicle. has anybody had any experience with this? We wont be bringing any weapons or other items that could cause alarm like food or booze.

Also if you have any ideas on what to not miss on our trip please let me know! Or if you have any travel advice that might cause us stress to avoid. Thank You

Traveling from Michigan to Niagara Falls

    Niagara Falls to Toronto

    Toronto to Montreal

    Montreal to Quebec City

    Quebec City to Nova Scotia

*Looking for ideas on where to go in NS. We will be stopping in Halifax for some whale watching and hopefully some hiking but looking for other fun ideas as well.*

Travel dates are May 3rd through May 18th

    Thank You!

  • Suggestions Needed- Women in History?

For my Women In History class I need to read a Biography or Autobiography on a woman who was influential to history. Here are some stipulations...

*The woman has to have been born or influenced history around or after the 1930's. (I was bummed because I really wanted to do Jane Austen...oh well)

*The book has to be at least 250 pages... I'd prefer nothing too much over 400 pages as well simply because the high volume of reading that I already have to do, but I'd be open to a longer book if it is amazing

*Nothing directly involving current politics - My friends keep telling me Hilary Clinton or Barbara Bush and I just am simply not interested in reading their books... Maybe I should, but I just want something non-politics.

*I'm looking for not only a good read but a woman that is not super well known. There are 2 other people doing Eleanor Roosevelt and two more doing Marie Curie... If you know of a woman that most people wouldnt know too much about then thats what I want...**Remember she HAS to have a book about her life that I can read**

*Please feel free to put as many suggestions as you can (as long as they have a book about their full life, Jane Goodall only has books about parts of her life for example, I need a full life in a book, or at least the most important part of their life)

A little about me- I love classic lit (Jane Austen..ETC) I'm an Anthropology major, I love history and great stories.. Please help me pick the perfect woman to read about for my class. I want that 4.0!

    Thank You!

  • has anybody used Ashwood University? Or other online degree sites?

I know that there are some sites that you can purchase a Bachelors/Masters degree from life experiences and I just wanted to know if anybody has used them with success and what the turn out was like.

I obviously know that they arnt accredited like a normal degree and I know that it is not the same but I'm needing to get my boyfriend some sort of degree to help with us being approved to move to another country(Japan). (I guess it helps if you have a degree on file, they typically dont check the degree it just looks good on records.)

I'm wondering if anybody has used sites like Ashwood/Brixton or any other one and if you got approved, what was the process like, how long it took you to get it and what results you have gotten from having it.

Please no lectures on "fake degree's" I'm just looking for real experiences with these types of sites.

    Thank You!

  • Buying a Kotatsu in the US?

I recently learned what a Kotatsu is and was interested in purchasing one but all the sites that I have found have prices that seem over priced. I think its mainly because they are not used here in the states. Has anybody found a good price (under $100) for a Kotatsu? Some of the sites I looked at were only in Japanese and I cannot read it yet :(

I'm wondering if it would just be cheaper to make it myself but all the heating units I found were over $100 by themselves.

    Thank you!

  • Heating/Cooling in Japan Homes?

I have been researching Japan as a place to move in the future and I read in a book that most homes dont have air conditioning or heating. Can you please explain how this works?

If you live in an apartment building there is no heat in the winter? How do you stay warm?

    Thank you!

  • Looking for real experience in flying from the US to Japan (or vise versa)?

    Hello,

Im planning on visiting Japan in May of 2013. Im looking for somebody who has actually taken a flight from the US to Japan or from Japan to the US. A little info about the trip.

Two adults (late 20's), Leaving from Michigan or somewhere in the east coast (we can drive to Chicago,Pittsburgh or other cities fairly easy) and our trip will be about two weeks leaving at the beginning of May.

If you have found any helpful tips in this long journey or anything that might be beneficial I would greatly appreciate it. We are trying to make this a really excellent vacation and just want to be informed of any potential "speed bumps" along the way.

Obviously we know about the Passports and other travel issues, im looking for more of what airline you took, how long the flight was, did you leave during the day or night, what time did you arrive at the airport, upon arrival what was customs like, how long did it take you to get to your room, how did you feel after the flight, on the plane were there movies/entertainment provided, did you find a great deal through a specific airline, was your plane full, any helpful tips at all that you can give me about the traveling to/from Japan? Please give me some details that might help. We wont be able to afford first class but we do have a budget of $2000-$4000.Thank you!

  • Whenever I watch my mom's dog she refuses to eat/go to the bathroom. Need details please.?

I asked this previously but didnt get a good detailed answer..so here it goes again.

My mom recently moved into my house with her little dashund Sammi-Jo. She is a really sweet dog who never has any potty issues and is well behaved. She turned 4 this spring. To make a long story short my mom started dating a man who lives a couple hours away and she will go away on Friday night and return on Sunday morning. The entire time she is gone Sammi-Jo will not eat or hardly move. We have to literally carry her outside to go to the bathroom otherwise she will lay on her bed and pee herself. She refuses to move at all from that bed! I honestly dont understand why she is doing this because since we all live together she is used to me and my boyfriend and acts completely fine when my mom is home. Any clue as to why she might be doing this and how I can help her?

P.S - we have tried taking her for walks and doing activites but as soon as we move her she just lays right back down where ever she can.

another note- when we take her outside she wont even go to the bathroom, she just lays on the grass. Why wont she at least go potty? I've heard of seperation anxiety in dogs but is this behavior of not eating or going to the bathroom until she finally pee's on herself that? How do I help curb this behavior, she looks so sad :(
