  • What big bike now sportsbikes are too uncomfortable?

My knees and back are no longer compatible with riding a sportsbike so my RSV Mille will have to go. The question is what to get. I am not ready for a BMW yet and all those tubby tourer types do nothing for me. What 70s/80s/90 big bike (I am >6 feet) will be reasonably quick but comfortable and not embarrassingly slow or bad handling after the lovely Aprilia? I am no longer after extremes of performance but something interesting unusual, fun and reliable.

  • Golf GT TDi safe drive home mode when cold?

I have a 2000 Golf GT TDi 115, and when it is cold, it frequently goes into safe mode, where it won't rev and just limps along. No message on the display when it happens. If I stop and start the engine again it will be OK, but sometimes it does this more than once. I am not thrashing it and it will do this at around 3000rpm. The temperature gauge is errartic and I thought that perhaps if the ECU was seeing it as being cold, it might be the problem, but last week, I noticed it happened when the temp guage was reading fine and the car was fairly warmed up. I had thought at one stage it was that the oil was low and perhaps when it was cold, there coudl be momentary low levels and pressure drops, but it definitely happens when the oil is spot on now. Usually this happens in the first 5 miles or so of my journey and if it gets past that it is ok.

The car has done 104000 miles and that is genuine and VW servicing. Any ideas or information appreciated.
