In the movie "Crimson Tide" the submarine must distance itself from its target by more than 1000 yards before firing torpedoes. The explanation given is that it takes 1000 yards to arm the torpedoes. Why?

I had a tumor next to my spine that measured 4x4 cm axially. Is that considered to be a small thoracic tumor, or is it medium or even large? (It was benign, and it's since been removed).

I just had a thoracotomy to remove a tumor, and I had a chest tube in for a few days as well. A friend told me that thoracotomies, as well as chest tube insertion and removal, are considered some of the most painful medical procedures one could go through. Is this true?

I'm 26 years old, with a family history of cancer. MRI showed a "large paraspinal lesion closely in contact with T4, T5, T6, and T7 and posterior proximal ribs. Evidence to suggest bone destruction of T4 and T5. Vertebral heights and discs remain normal. No definite intrathecal extension of the lesion. Malignant neoplasm is a major consideration."

I was rear-ended and the other guy's insurance has agreed to cover the damages, but the repair shop said they might not be able to find a recycled or junkyard muffler. If they have to install a brand new one the insurance says that I have to pay the difference once depreciation is factored in. I understand that insurance is only supposed to return the car to pre-accident condition, but shouldn't they have to pay for a new muffler if an old one is not available? Why should I have to pay if nothing was my fault?

My apartment was recently sold and will now be managed by Rockwood Capital, Inc. My lease is coming up soon and before I renew I would like to find out which other properties in the area are also managed by Rockwood so that I can read some apartment reviews and get an idea of how the tenants characterize their management style. This should be public information. Does anyone know where I can find it?
