We re trying to get there just to swim. But the only way that s advertised is the tours. We don t need a tour. Been there, done that; too damn expensive. And the thing is, there were a ton of locals there when we went... So there s a way... Anyone know it?

A few people recently have critiqued my writing... It's technically a novel but I'm really just trying to improve in order to better please people with it. Version 1 was a hit! Anyway. They all said my characters think too much - or rather that I express the thoughts too often. Two of said crits actually elaborated to say things along the lines of 'show me, make me see it, feel it' instead.

I notice I did get better notes when I was writing more 'screenplay style' (different work). So... are they right? The perspective in question is that thoughts - epecially memories (but not full-blown flashbacks I avoid them) comprise *us*. Everyone's got them, most people learn from them, and it's a great way to express a quick bit of background. No? All opinions valued! It's kind of driving me crazy.

OK so our house burned down yesterday, and he was able to grab (after the animals and the phone for 911) his xbox. It's all he has. I have a whole intact laptop! And we're in a hotel - courtesy of RedCross; holyfuck those guys are awesome - so free Wifi too.

He just left to go and deal with what's left of the house, via bus. Not going to be back for a while. The only thing he asked is that I save his game. He's in the middle of being attacked by something too. BUT unfortunately I play nothing. Not a damn thing; not since the very first Mario lol. Still, I consider myself fairly intelligent and I read the little bottom-corner instructions. They say the same thing he did. He said 'just arrow down' (got that) 'and hit a'. Well when I do that it just takes me back to the top of the menu. WTF. The last thing he needs right now is to come back to however many hours of work he's done gone because I killed his character. I know it's a little thing, but it's a lot to us right now. Help?

It's a textbook suppressed memory, as I understand it at least. There's a lot of my childhood missing, so no big deal as per that. But this... it was never there, not even a hint of it, until a few months ago. I woke up during a medical procedure. A hysteroscopy. There was an infection; that's all I remember them saying beforehand. I think I was ten. Anyway nobody explained any of it to me, and I freaking woke up! Enough for one of the attendants to notice... after an agonizingly-long while. I remember screaming and thrashing to the point where they pinned me down. They tried to calm me down, but I've never been in so much pain in my life, plus the embarrassment factor... They had to put me out with something else. I realize that now. In the meantime there were kind words and soothing gestures - sympathetic expressions, stroking of the arm and hand and hair, gentle placement of hands on my shoulder and chest so I'd feel safe... yeah it was terrifying. I've always fought with haphephobia and any kind of medical anything, and now I know why. What brought it all back, all at once, was me being very, very drunk plus my fiance demanding on a relationship-threatening level that I tell him why I wake up screaming sometimes. I never knew. I'd just attributed it to regular nightmares.

Now here's the kicker - He doesn't seem to care! He says things like 'well what else could they have done', 'we can't do anything about it now' and 'most people wouldn't freak out about that'.

Good old-fashioned nerd argument. We all play a game called GURPS (an improvement upon Dungeons and Dragons... though some would disown you for mentioning the two in the same sentence). Now I'm curious, because I can't think of a way in specific, but it seems like it could be done: Bring modern-day Earth to its knees using only unlimited teleportation.

Autoteleport, no exo - you can only TP yourself and small objects like clothing, flash drives, etc., not other people. Other than that, no limits! Relocate yourself any distance, on-or-off-planet (better know the one you're going to can support life though), as often and as many times as you like, instantly.

I'm not politically-minded, so that may be what's missing here. Could you do it? x)

"He" is my husband. We struggled in Washington for 6 years because we both lost good jobs, but after being some of the working *homeless* for a year we sold everything we had, saved every penny, and drove our van to Florida where my mother helped us out. She only had to help for a week and loan us a couple hundred, and we were good again! We still owe A LOT of people in WA, including the court system, a ton of money, btw. I have a bench warrant.

3 years later we're poor, still not able to find full-time work, but we're okay. And now he wants to do this all over again; move back. I love it here. Every place has its faults, but they don't drive me crazy like they do him. Literally everyone he makes friends with turns out to be a drug-addict or douchebag, and he hates the bugs, cigarette smoke and general Florida-ness of Florida.

He says he'd rather die than live here one more year, and if I make him choose he'll choose 'home' over me. (I've moved around so much I don't really have a sense of home anymore.) I HATE moving. So sick of it. And we would have to fly back this time, so even less belongings. That aside, I've always had a very hard time finding a job, and I finally have one that I love now! And it came with good friends! Two things I've never had before in my life. What are the odds I could get them again, in the same exact place that I couldn't before? idk. But he wants his friends back so bad he'll take all the huge risks. Should I leave this... or leave him?

My fiance Adam and I have been together for 8 years. We haven't had the money this whole time to get married in any respectable sense. 2.5 years ago we moved to Florida from Washington to get away from all the drugs and shitty people. We had no family and maybe 1 true friend there who couldn't help us to not be homeless over and over.

It's been almost as hard here. The only real difference is we have family to ask for loans and little bits of help. It's not enough for the big things, like health insurance or pain management for his neuropathy, gastroparesis and rotting-out abcessed teeth, so he smokes a lot of pot. It makes it so he can work through it. I have seen him cry in pain without it. Well a few days ago he decided on his own to quit entirely and use the saved money to try for health insurance again. Today Adam got very angry at the world - there are definitely, always symptoms at least for him of detoxing - and decided for the 11th time that he's going back to Washington and leaving me. Well my b*tch mother decided to antagonize him on f*cking facebook for it, and he's done with us all. No amount of support or understanding from me is helping. He wants out. He seems convinced it will take a week to do so, and he may have gotten his inheritance when his grandmother died a few days ago (which he didn't tell me btw), in which case he can. He's staying in the spare room until this happens because he says he fell out of love with me 2 years ago

He's just not the kind of person I thought he was when I befriended him. We were best friends at work, and for a while after! But then he slowly revealed things that I just can't handle. My husband could never handle him because he's too dramatic regarding his sugar daddy boyfriend and he doesn't stop talking when asked to while watching a movie, etc.

I can't deal with him because he's extremely hypocritical and self-contradicting. He begs people to help him get a job and get out of the borderline-abusive bfs house, but then he doesn't do even the bare minimum to actually get it done. He was handed a great job and never went to the interview (a formality). He's lazy. Secondly, he claims to be a nature and animal lover but he kills rare native plants, propagates invasive ones, and only likes the cute wild animals. On the domestic side is his #1 offense for me: He sent me a picture of a 'designer dog' puppy (and the card of the guy who bred her) and said "look what I made Jesse buy me!". Three months later he asked me if I could take her because Jesse isn't caring for her. He posted pics of her in a small room, running around like a dog with separation anxiety in way too much of her own pee and poo. I gave him several ways to rehome her and when he didn't do any of them I offered to take her so I could. He refused! Saying if Jesse found out he'd kick him out before he was ready, and he had to "look out for himself". I ended up calling animal services.

If the visible light spectrum begins with red and ends with purple, then why is there no gap between red and purple when combining primaries to make secondaries (color theory)?

What makes something appear a certain color is the particular wavelength (or combination of) that it reflects, right?

So then why is it that I can take 50% of red - the color at the end of the visible spectrum only (not all of the wavelengths) - and 50% purple - the other end of the spectrum - and it always makes that burgundy color right inbetween? It's the same result as combining each primary and neighboring secondary in the middle. This makes color theory a wheel not a line. Where do infrared and ultraviolet go?

I'm trying to find out if I should call around and deal with cable's sales people in the area - the SOUTH - in order to find one that doesn't do this bullsh*t.

It was LOreal Feria "Starry Night". The box does state it as both a 'bright black' and a 'blue-black', but all three examples on it show *no hint* of ACTUAL blue. I followed the directions exactly.

I thought 'blue-black' just meant it wasn't a warm brownish black like you see on Mexicans. Well for whatever reason, nope! Blue and not black.

I lost a lot of hair on the rinse-out, too, FYI. About 3x the amount I did with the RAW (demi-perm) Deep Purple I started with. Again, followed directions exactly! Leave it in for 25 minutes it said. This is only my second hair color ever.

My main concern is I have a new job to go to *tomorrow* and I'm not allowed to have unnatural hair color! This is better than purple I guess, but it's just so obviously a very dark blue. I CAN'T lose this job over this BS. PLEASE tell me there's a way to fix it. Is there anything that will just take out most of the blue? Preferably a natural or at-home product, since it already took a lot of my hair!

If there is absolutely no alternative remedy, then what would be the safest step chemically to fix it? Cause I have to fix it. And of course, their insufferable customer service line is closed. Took a couple of rude-*ss hangups to figure that out. F*ck!

I haven't gotten the letter yet. But I'm not technically disabled, and I'm not cranking out kids like the guy down the street, so I sure as sh*t am not "exempt".

I need to know what they're going to want me to do. It doesn't say anywhere on any official site what their definition of "work activity" is. At 20 hours a week (which btw IF you get the full amount equates out to 1 or 2 bucks an hour) and no extra money or car ever, that's going to be a problem. And they are not going to care. I'm trying to do more progressive things like get a GED and go to school, not spend my time being punished for needing food cost help.

Has anyone had to do it yet? What do they want you to do? Where am I going to have to travel to to do it? I need SOME information, or I'm going to be blindsided when I get a letter with 2 days notice, like with every other letter they send.

I'm spending this Labor Day soaking this damned debilitating nail infection, and I don't think it's going to heal by tomorrow. I only get one day off at a time, ever. I work with fresh food and wash my hands a whole lot, clean with chemicals, etc., then apply and reapply f-ing gloves. So I get these a lot. It hurts so bad, swells to about 1.5 times its original size, is all red and a little itchy too. It might produce pus and be "poppable" which relieves most of the pain in one week, if I'm lucky. In the meantime I can't do all the high-dexterity tasks I need to for work. Is there any way to just speed this sh*t up? Better or worse, more pain or no, I don't care I just can't wait that long!

What's the best way to heal these things fast?

I don't suppose there is anything a free clinic doctor might be able to do about this recurring problem?

I just need some opinions. Opinions would help me out a lot! No idea how do deal with this.

Everyone has constant bitches about their significant other, right? I thought it was normal. I can't stand his smoking, loud stupid TV shows and always letting other people screw him/us over. He can't stand me having anywhere from 2 to 15 pet rats, 2 dogs, and all my belongings. We live in a small mobile home and he's the *only* person in my life that calls me a 'hoarder'. Most of our belongings are my fault, yes, I collect little things that make me happy, but most people agree I am nowhere near 'hoarder'. I would love to have more space just so I can spread out my current things and it would look fine, but he doesn't believe me. He thinks I'll just get more. I don't want more!

Anyway he says he can't deal with it anymore and he's moving out as soon as he gets a job. He wants to try to get a neighboring unit. I have no idea what to do with that. of course I love him. We've been through so many f*cked up situations, caused by one or the other, or an outside party! I've heard of couples who live separately like in apartments or neighboring houses and are fine. But does that really work? I tell you right now, I'm not going to the neighbor's house to get laid! But apparently he would. And we're not real young anymore. We weren't real cuddly before. But I don't know. Would anyone else out there be willing to walk up to a block to spend time with their significant other, ever?

It is borderline unuseable. Too bad it's my only one! I don't know what the problem is... what's changed from norm since it was last at acceptable speed is this: I used two different hotel wifis and downloaded some music.

I have noticed that WM Player has been particularly affected, but it seems like any time I download anything new it does this. Playlists disappear, they seem to be replaced with new ones I didn't make (even right before my eyes!), and occasionally I'll open it up and it won't do a single thing, have to restart the computer to get it working again. I really hope this provides a clue to what's going on.

As far as usage I know just the very basics I think: how to do disk clean up and defrag, and general safe downloading practices, that's it. Any theories, as long as they also contain a course of action, are much appreciated! I am not going to any bs speed-up-yur-pc sites and I don't have any money. Please tell me I can fix this without money I need it now to apply for jobs before my internet gets shut off!! I will be monitoring so please ask for more info if someone needs it thank you! x )

Not so long ago, you looked in the paper or saw a sign, went in in-person, filled out an application, and called back about a week later or whenever they said they might get to it. You had to pester them sometimes, but often that showed motivation and got you the job. Now it's different, and I don't get it. I'll see a post on a job site with an address, and I'll happen to go by there and there's no sign. And when you ask how to apply they say go to the damn website. I've BEEN going to tons of websites, for a year and nobody had replied NOT EVEN ONCE! So wtf. What do they want. Should I still call and try to speak with a manager, or do all the "no calls please" and failures to post locations indicate that that's not cool anymore?

There are so many jobs that I would actually be perfect for but I just can't get through to who I can tell that to. How do I at least get my fair chance? Needless to say, no job = no home for me (everyone's got a story I won't bore you with mine). Please help! Any advice is appreciated.

I got a pregnant female who is very sweet but now has 16 babies! I really can't keep them all; I just don't have the space.

Ever since they were 2 weeks old I've been posting them on Craigslist hoping to find homes. I had 5 responses, all of whom flaked!!! It doesn't help that everyone around all of a sudden decided to breed and have rat babies also posted on there, some for free which I was told never to do, and that CL decided to put at least a month-long expiration on all posts now, so people who are lazy or forget to remove theirs are right in the same spot as me, someone who checks email every day and really needs it! So frustrating.

Where else can I go? I just want to find them good homes. They're almost 2 months now (about 2/3 size of an adult), they won't look like babies for much longer!

I keep reading everywhere that music affects multiple areas of the brain - not just the auditory cortex - as opposed to noise. I want to know what exactly makes it possible for humans to like music.

I broke down the question "do rats like music" - upon coming up empty in a search of my limited resources - into this, and the next question would be [whatever that factor is that allows us to appreciate it] which animals have it and which don't?
