Miss Understood

So, Avenged Sevenfold's latest album, Hail To The King, was meant to be kind of a "tribute" album to all of the bands who inspired them and, apparently, each song is kind of a reference to a particular song by one of their influences. The "This Means War"/"Sad But True" connection is obvious, someone on YouTube pointed out the opening of "Shepherd Of Fire" being similar to Megadeth's "Trust", I'm guessing that "Doing Time" was inspired by something from Guns N' Roses. Anyway, though, I don't know much '80s Metal and I'm not really familiar with '70s Metal at all, so could someone who grew up on that music please help me figure out the inspirations for the other songs, mainly my two favorite tracks, "Requiem" and "Planets"? I love these songs and if the "remakes" are this good, I really need to hear the "originals"...

I'd appreciate it if someone could also help me with the inspirations for the other songs on the album, "Hail To King", "Crimson Day", "Heretic", "Coming Home" and "Acid Rain", but I really want to know about "Requiem" and "Planets".

BQ: What are your opinions on the album? It seems to be a love it or hate it album with people on one side dismissing it as a "cover" album and thinking it's sad that they got a number one album by basically ripping off of other bands, but people on the other side are glad to see a modern band who know where they come from. I personally love their decision to do a "tribute" album because not only is it a great homage to their influences, but it introduces that music to their younger generation of fans who missed it and makes them want to go out and find the songs that inspired theirs, which seems to be their main intention for the album (it worked for me). What side of the debate are you on? Just curious.

Shows like Rock Star and Nashville Star had original song night. It's too bad that American Idol doesn't because this season came down to 2 very talented songwriters. But if they were allowed to sing an original song each for the finale, which songs would you like to hear compete?

I love Adam on Idol. I love how he goes back and forth between the big Glam Rock Axl Rose/Sebastian Bach/Vince Neil (by the way, was Vince Neil in the audience tonight. I swore I saw him. If it was him, I bet I know who he was there to see) - type performances and the stripped down ballads. I never know what to expect. But then I found a YouTube performance that made me wonder, even after all we've seen, if he's actually holding back. So I just thought I'd share the video and see if other Adam fans feel the same because I personally think it's AMAZING. If he's saving something like this for the big Finale song, I feel sorry for whoever has to go up against him :p.

what does everyone else think of it?

I love bands like Cradle Of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Ancient (with Lord Kaiphas),The Kovenant (Animitronic era), Acid Bath, My Dying Bride, Mercyful Fate/King Diamond, stuff like that. I guess it's considered "Symphonic Metal," or whatever you call it. I'm not really into Death Metal like Cannibal Corpse and such. I like stuff that's heavy but catchy or dark but beautiful, with keyboards or orchestras or female backing vocalists or just something other than the typical vocalist/screamer,guitar,bass,drums set-up. Does anyone know any bands who sound similar to any of these, mainly Cradle and Dimmu? Any suggestions welcome. We have no music stores around here anymore so I have to buy my CDs at Wal-Mart and Best Buy and MTV doesn't show Metal videos anymore, so I don't even know who's out there anymore. But if anyone has any suggestions, I'll look them up on YouTube and if I like it, I'll get their CD on Amazon. At least they still have good music.

Great Rock cover which would be perfect for his style. Sure to be another strong performance from Cook.

JASON - "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"

This just seems to be the perfect song for Jason. And if he did it and nailed it, it could be his comeback and give him another amazing performance like "Hallelujah".

BROOKE - "September Morn"

it's a beautiful song and if she could pull it off (and remember the lyrics :p), she could redeem herself for last week.

the song has kind of a Broadway feel to it that should suit Syesha's voice and style well.

My bf knows I love frogs and have been collecting them for years, so yesterday, he surprised me with a real one, but today, i came home to find it lying upside-down dead. It was a baby golden tree frog that he got from a reptile show. We followed the instructions he was given; we had him in a tank with moss and a plant, had a UV lamp on him for 12 hours, sprayed the frog and the tank with water so he wouldn't dry up, had a bowl of water in the tank for moisture and drinking and baby crickets to eat. I thought we did everything right, but now it's gone, before i even had the chance to find out if it was a male or female or properly name him/her. Did we do something wrong or could it have already been sick before we got it? I don't know where the sellers got the frog or if it was taken care of by whoever found him. And I did notice it had weird pink/red markings around it's mouth area (what is that?) and seemed a little underweight, but I don't know. What happened to my new baby?

Personally, I would trade David H and Kristy Lee (especially after their disasters this week) to have Danny and Asia'h back.

I think Josiah should be there too, but he's probably better without Idol.

I know his last audition wasn't great, he had a bad day, but he was still better than half the guys who made it through and the judges should've gone by his past auditions and his potential. I just listened to his songs on his MySpace profile and watched his YouTube video for "One Last Song" and I think his original music is so beautiful and i almost don't even have any interest in watching the show without him on it. I still like Michael, Jason and Amanda, but I feel that Josiah should be up there with them. I guess I shouldn't worry about him too much, though. With his talent and his loyal fanbase (including me and his 25,193 other MySpace friends), I'm sure he has a good chance to make it on his own. I think he's too good for AI, anyway, but I would still like to see him. Hopefully, he could get "discovered" and signed because I want to see his videos on MTV and buy his CDs NOW.

i tried to order something through Paypal (which i do all the time), but the transaction didn't go through and it said that my card was denied by my credit card issuer. I didn't cancel my card or anything and i don't think i went over my limit (though i can't remember what my limit is, since it's a starter card and may be lower than i thought). But if i did go over my limit,what do i do? If i pay it off, will my card get turned back on or would i have to get a new one? And if i didn't exceed my limit...?
