6 AnswersRadio1 decade agoCan a car dealer hold on to credit information if no purchase is made and you ask for it back?
We were car shopping one day and the Cleveland area jeep dealer asked for a credit check and credit card we provided it to him since he wanted to run a credit check before he would give us a price (not sticker) and exact dealer incentives (since they vary from model to model) When we decided not to buy the car since he tried to sell us another car without us knowing. I asked for my credit information back no purchase was made he told me he couldn't give it back to me under the patriot act (which is a terrorist act my husband and I were both born in Ohio) The application also had my social security number . I then asked them to shred it in front of me which they refused What are my rights on this matter and why do they need my information if no sale was mad? thanks
