  • What hardware upgrade(s) should I get?

    Hi,

After a bit of a break from World of Warcraft I'm keen to get back into it, try out Cataclysm etc. The problem I have is that since the graphics were upgraded in WoW even on minimum graphics settings I can get at best 20fps. And it looks pretty nasty on minimum settings.

I can't really afford much of an upgrade but I'm hoping that perhaps £50 somewhere will make a bit of a bang?

    I'm currently using:

    Asus A8V-E SE motherboard

    4 x 512mb 400Mhz DDR RAM (e.g. total 2Gb, the mobo can't use ram above 400 Mhz)

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ CPU (the mobo will take socket 939 AMD Athlon 64, AMD Athlon 64 FX and AMD Athlon 64 X2)

    nVidia 9600GT 512mb Graphics Card (PCI-express)

    Windows XP

    160Gb of hard disc space over 3 drives (a 20Gb, a 80Gb and a 60Gb)

Is there an upgrade that would cost me not too much but make WoW playable? I'm toying with something like a nVidia 8800GT card as it doesn't look as though a CPU upgrade would have much effect (unless I go dual core?) or alternatively upgrade to 4Gb of RAM.

Any opinions welcomed - obviously really I'd love to get a new PC but budget doesn't stretch to that at the moment!

  • Advice on what to see in London in an hour?

I'm visiting London for work on Wednesday. I'm at a seminar in Westminster that I should get out of about half 2, but my train doesn't leave until about 4 from Kings Cross, so allowing for travel time (got an underground all day pass) I reckon I've got about an hour to see something in London. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should go see (ideally something between Westminster and Kings Cross!)?
