Is water clarifier bad for fish?

I've had Bettas for many years now and I've never used a heater for them. Am I supposed to have one?

Also, I know that you're supposed to have a heater for guppies but my guppies survived without one. I think my home is really warm though. :)

Should I get goldfish or tropical fish for my 25 gallon aquarium?

I've noticed that the water in my aquarium has gotten somewhat cloudy. I've added water clarifier, did a 25% water change and I cleaned the gravel.

However, I was also told to add some bacteria to my tank because it is beneficial for the fishes.

Would that affect the water quality? If not what is the problem and how do I clear my water again?

The tank is a few months old and I have one goldfish in the tank.

I lot of people have told me to get it because it is supposedly "good" for the fish. However, a lot of other people have also told me that it is a waste of money because goldfish don't need a heater (and a thermometer) because they are coldwater fish.

I understand that they are coldwater fish and I used to have goldfish in the past. I didn't use a heater or a thermometer.

Should I get a heater and thermometer anyways?
