  • Should i read the City of Fallen Angels, or not?

I've seen that it hasn't received very good reviews, and im not sure i want to spoil that world for myself. But i dont want to miss out. Ive recently read the rest of the mortal instruments series. So i pose this question to those who have read the City of Fallen Angels.... worth it, or not?

  • Looking for books similar to the perks of being a wallflower, looking for alaska, the fault in our stars?

I'm looking for some new books, similar to "The Perks of being a Wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky, "Looking for Alaska" by John Greene, or "The Fault in Our Stars" by John Greene.

So if anyone has any books similar please let me know! I'd be forever in your debt!

My favourite of those 3 would be perks of being a wallflower, then looking for alaska.

Oh, and I tried "It's Kindof A Funny Story" by Ned Vazzini after enjoying the film... safe to say, im not a fan. Couldn't finish it. So not that one, please!

A little extra info: Before reading these, i read predominately dystopian fiction (ie. Hunger games, divergent, birthmarked, inside out, etc)

  • need help regarding the brain (memory) for a novel?

I've been working on a concept for a novel, and before I begin, I wanted to first check up on some of the major details with the community before committing myself into deeper research.

What i want to know is this:

Is it plausible, that in the future, people might have the ability to remove part of one persons memory, through a lobotomy or similar procedure? It wouldn't have to be successful, I'm just curious if this may be something scientists would try as an experiment?

(I havent studied the brain, through phycology or any other class at school or external research, so i really have no basis for this kind of knowledge. )

Secondarily, what part of the brain would the procedure be performed on, and what would a botched surgery result in?

Any - and i mean ANY - help would be appreciated here, no matter the quality or depth of your knowledge. Thanks in advance!

  • tobias eaton (divergent) cast idea?

i reckon jeremy sumpter would make a great tobias (four) for the divergent movie (coming out in 2014). he needs his hair dyed dark, sure, but i think he'd do rather well!

If you remember the classic peter pan movie, you know who i mean.

    http://myfinal-hour.tumblr.com/post/29820866402/po...

Heres a photo of him these days ^^

I know nothing the fandom does (or ships) has any influence whatsoever on the final cast, i just want to hear opinions:)

  • need help with imovie exporting?

When trying to export anything over the "large" setting (ie. HD), the film automatically reverts to exporting as a .mov file, as opposed to a m4v (or mv4, dont know the order of that one), which is what im after, as i am trying to upload it to youtube.

I need help finding a way to ensure it exports as an m4v instead, without using another program or exporting twice, as .mov files take forever to export on my computor.

this is how i export: share; export movie.

i really appreciate your time, thanks !

  • looking for a book like divergent, the hunger games, legend?

Im an avid reader, and ive ran out of books to read.

im 17, but i only really like YA fiction (though obviously those geared to the slightly older age group)

just like most teenage girls, im a huge fan of dystopian fiction, though ive found ive ran out of those.

things i dont like: medieval (knights, princes, anything like that), overly futuristic (aliens), and i generally like them to have a bit of romance too. please dont suggest any listed below.

books i have read and (in some cases)adored:

    divergent

    the hunger games

    legend

    inside out and outside in

    shiver

    birthmarked

    gone series by michael grant

    i am number four

    the declaration (hated the sequels)

    matched

    the maze runner

the knife of never letting go

    the uglies series

    harry potter

    daughter of smoke and bone

    delirium

    eden

the chemical garden series, first 2 books

    unwind

    peepes

    the naughts and crosses series

ive also read all sequels and prequels to these. so, does anyone suggest anything?

    thanks for reading<3

for the record, though ive included peeps and the daughter of smoke and bone, im not a fan of vampires or anything supernatural. ta:)

  • wallflower, book or movie first?

so i really want to see the film "the perks of being a wallflower" as, and ill be honest, logan lerman is cute. haha but i also really like emma watson, and ive heard nothing but good things from tumblr.

however, im also a huge book nerd.

i hate the feeling when you watch a film, and its not as good as the book, but a book is always better when you dont know what happens.

so, should i read the book, or watch the movie first, and why?

    ta!

  • california vs florida..?

So, background info: Im travelling to america (im australian) next year, first to work at a summer camp, and then i get a month of travel. after that month, ill need to leave the country for a day or so (either mexico or canada i believe) so i can enter on a new visa, if i so desire.

however, after that month the rest of my family (consisting of my mum, 11 year old sister, and potentially my other brother and sister, 18 and 21) will be coming over for a two week holiday.

    my question is this:

which should they come for, california or florida?

I always thought california, but heres the thing... me and my older sister are absolutely obsessed with harry potter, and i just heard about the wizarding world in orlando.

however, i may be able to go to one or the other in my spare month.

    so pros v cons?

and is it worth seeing both or not?

  • earths poles switching?

So i heard someone talking a while ago, about how one of the theories for the crazy weather worldwide, apart from global warming, relates to the gradual shifting of the north and south pole. ie, the earth is slowly turning on a seperate axis, so eventually the poles will be switched.

I looked it up at the time, and found in fact it has been recorded that other planets in other solar systems, or something similar, were found to have undergone this process, though only shifting slightly..

What i want to know is, does anyone know what this is called, and if it WAS to happen, theoretically, how long would it take to occur on a planet similar to the size of earth?

    Thanks very much.

FYI, i ask as im trying to write a fiction novel, and want to get some background on this. This does NOT relate to my actual beliefs.

  • What would you like to see?

So im looking into starting a youtube beauty channel... featuring most prominently makeup, hair and nails. I was wondering what you, as a potential viewer, would like to see for a first video, and subsequent videos thereafter.

So, what would YOU like to see?

My channel is entitled "makeuphermind", and currently contains no content.

    http://www.youtube.com/user/makeuphermind?feature=...

If your wondering, im a 17 year old female, so not a professional.. hence the videos shouldnt be extremely ..anal. for a lack of a better word. haha:)

I also have a great camera with which to film, a Canon 600D (or T3i in other countries), so quality is not an issue!

Thanks so much for your help<3

And I just checked my emails.. SUPPOSEDLY i scored 147. Surely this cannot be right?

I'm only 17... and this just seems rather ridiculous. Golly gosh.

    So... false?

  • need urgent help... art and design related!?

im in my final year of high school, and in three days we have a final and a folio due. and lucky me just found out everything i was doing up until this point was wrong. its for vce unit 3 visual communication and design, ie. we have to design or create something 3D, or with three dimensional aspects, such as a room design, a scale model of a house, or box/packaging design, etc.

up until this point, i had designed a poster to advertise a music festival of my own imagination.

if possible, i would like to continue with this idea of a music festival (which i have called the underground) but im open to ANY suggestions!

  • looking for novels similar to...?

Hello all, i'm looking for some novels similar to the hunger games and divergent. I really like dystopian fiction, aimed at the older end of young adult, and generally dont like fantasy, medieval, steampunk, or anything like that. Ive seen on a lot of book posts suggestions of books by stephen king and that, but im not interested in the slightly older, more classic books :). Ill provide a list of books i have read, so they arent suggested (and other people looking can find some good reads too:) )

    Hunger Games

    Divergent

    Birthmarked

    Matched

    Inside Out

    Delirium

    The maze runner

The knife of never letting go

    daughter of smoke and bone

    legend

    eden

    i am number four

    before i fall

    forst of hands and teeth

    triskellion

    gone

    shiver

    uglies

    tomorrow when the war began

    etc..

i know its a long list:) also, all their sequels.

so any suggestions OTHER than those would be more than appreciated, you would be a lifesaver!

  • my kindle isnt working..?

I only got it a couple of weeks ago, and a few days ago its started playing up. I have the kindle touch with 3g. It "struggles" to turn on, to open books, and it keeps reverting to a screen with a load bar and the kindle logo. I don't charge it at my computer, but with one of those usb wall converter things, but i didn't think not plugging it into the computer for a while would make a difference.

Also, its not getting any reception where i am, and keeps telling me to sync to wifi to "get all the latest deals"... not sure if its ALL stuffing up because i need to sync it?

I would love any ideas, thanks.

  • Not sure which tense to use in a novel?

I'm looking to begin writing a novel, or am considering it at least, yet I am stumped as to which tense to use. It shall be first person for sure, but i cannot decide whether or not to use past or present tense.

I have a tendency to subconsciously change tense throughout my writing, so i wish to decide on one beforehand.

I would look at my favourite novels for guidance, however my two favourites (Divergent by Veronica Roth and the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins) are post in present tense, and I have read online that some people find this annoying.

So i was wondering, which do you prefer?
