I am a 40-something father of three, married for half my life to the same very tolerant sainthood candidate. We have been following my Air Force career around the world since 1984 and currently reside in the Montgomery, AL. area. I believe in the need for a strong national defense to include the unfortunate necessity for military action when other means of protecting ourselves and our allies ways of life have been exhausted. I also believe in supporting and sustaining the decisons of those I have sworn to serve. I am a lifelong Scouter and have served as Scoutmaster for a small Boy Scout troop. I believe in the timeless values contained in the Boy Scout Oath and Law. I believe these values strengthen America. I am facinated by political discourse but limit my direct contributions to public discussions to protect the integrity of my current, chosen profession. Someday that may change. When I do jump into a conversation with political undertones, I speak for myself.
Why are many American medalists not placing their hands over their hearts for the national anthem?
I just watched the medal ceremony for the Men's Nordic, Combined. BOTH the gold and silver medalists were Americans and NEITHER honored the colors when the Star Spangled Banner played. I've spoken to others who have noticed a similar lack of respect by other American athletes--anyone know why?
