  • Do I need to file for taxes this year?

I'm 100% new to filing taxes. Up until now I have been in college in California full time, mostly supported by my family, only considered an independent contractor for the job that I've had, and haven't made the amount of income that is required to have to file for an IC.

A little over a month ago I added a part-time, minimum wage city job into the mix. Do I have to file? I have truly no clue how taxes work, if there is a certain amount I have to make at a "real" job before I have to file, if the fact that I've only worked there for such a short time matters in any way, etc.

I've tried the all-mighty google, but tax lingo is completely foreign to me so the detailed tax information that I'm stumbling upon still leaves me lost.

I'm not even sure what specifics to ask about, because I am so horribly ignorant at this point...

Thank you in advance to any assistance, I know I'm being obnoxiously vague and difficult! =)

  • Birth defect risks and birth control?

Well I've been on the pill for about 8 months now. I have never missed a pill, and I take it every single day at the same exact time. Still I'm growing a bit concerned about pregnancy. My breasts are swollen and tender, I've getting migraines, strange food cravings, nausea...and I'm sitting here thinking "wait a minute, I've been through this before".

My question is not "could I be pregnant", so please don't start responding in regards to my symptom list; my question is: If I AM preggers, what are the dangers of having continued the pill? What possible birth defects or complications may arise because of this?

I've stopped the pill and reverted back to condoms until I know for sure if I'm pregnant or not...but I've already miscarried twice in my young life...and would like to take the best care of this potential child by knowing my risks.
