  • When do hip replacement patients need to take antibiotics?

    I have two artificial hips. My second hip was done six months ago. About two weeks ago I broke a glass bowl and ended up with a little piece of glass in my foot, which is making me walk "funny" because it hurts when I press the spot where the glass is against the floor.

    My questions are:

    * Should I go to a doctor and have the glass removed?

    * Do I need to take an antibiotic before that?

    * Should I take antibiotic regardless going to see a doctor or not?

    I tried to call my surgeon, but he's not available.
