  • Why do many unmarried women have kids from casual relationships but don't seem to want a degree or job?

I don't mean this to be inflammatory but I realize it may be. Bear with me. I know everyone says, well having babies will get you on welfare and then you can live for free, etc. etc. And then people tend to rag on women who do have a few kids out of wedlock. So I guess I'm wondering, preferably from people who are in that situation, what's the rationale? Did you want to do it? Would you do it again? How do you feel about employment and education? I guess I'm trying to confront my own stereotypes, so feel free to let me have it with whatever you've got. From my standpoint, working 3-4 jobs, going to school almost full-time, and having a little apartment and social life, I'd rather not have a bunch of little kids running around, I feel like it would irritate me and give me one more thing to stress over. I'd rather spend my work hours working for money than get state aid but have to take care of kids. Please, enlighten me.

  • Is bigger better when it comes to apartments and relationship happiness?

Maybe you guys have been in this situation before - any tips/advice would be appreciated. If you had to pick between living in a 525 sq ft apartment with 2 people and a 750 sq fter and the difference was $60/mo ($30 per person), which would you pick, and why? Assuming that the difference in cost was not a financial burden to either party. Any ideas on how either would affect a relationship (or possibly affected yours)? The concern is that moving too two people into too small a space will create more stress than living in a bigger space would, but trying to decide if there is any truth to that idea. Thanks!

  • Resumes for Research/R&D in Med Devices Industry - should you include publications?

I have some conflicting evidence here. Some people say no, it's business, so throw your CV out and don't include any publications. Other people say, hey, if you are going into a research-oriented field and you have published research, why not include it. I don't know who's right. I opted for compromise, with a 2-page resume with all the basics, and a mention of publications that says, "See appendix." Then I have a page break and a listing of the pubs. I'm hoping to score a job in medical device research (working w/ clinical trials) so if anyone knows anything about that particular niche it would be greatly appreciated. :)

  • Perfume advice for mid-20s?

Ok, so I am cultivating a new addiction, but it's making me crazy. I've always skipped perfume except for really special occasions, but lately, probably because I love how my guy smells, I've wanted to have smell with me all the time.

So my question - good perfumes for women in their mid 20s? I'm afraid my tastes are possibly too adult or something. Lately I'm completely hopelessly in love with D & G Light Blue, which I think is fine for me. But then I like things like Armani Mania and Bijan Nude, which are kind of sweet and I think better for winter. But maybe they're just too grown up for someone who struggles to be serious in general. I don't know. Thoughts?

Oh and also, for those of you out there.. I've been told soooo many things about how to apply, but I wonder, how do most people? I'm talking mostly for eau de toilette sprays that are kind of not the longest lasting. So if you answer, answer that too!

    Thanks!

  • Who has a better sense of smell, women or men?

So recently I was reading a magazine that said that women have somehow evolved to have better senses of smell than men, possibly for the sake of detecting threats to unborn babies, or something. They say this is why chicks dig cologne on men more than men dig perfume on chicks.

But when I was in France at a perfume factory tour they were talking about "super noses", people who basically identify and combine scents. And they said that only men were able to be super noses, because women's senses of smell weren't as developed.

So I really hope someone knows -- which gender is better when it comes to smell?

    Thanks!

  • Thoughts on "relationshippal" complications?

This question isn't really one of those "OMG here's my situation please everyone psychically infer what all parties involved are thinking" types. I'm just wondering what all of you think (those of you who actually do think, anyway), think about some bigger issues all relationships face.

It's basically proven that you end up in close relationships basically as much through chance as any kind of choice on your part. You meet someone and you begin forming a bond through your continued meetings, whether it's a good pairing or not. And out of nowhere it seems like you're in a relationship of sorts, but not always completely sure what to do with it.

You make the choice to trust, if you can, though all evidence also points to the fact that we as humans tend to lie most to those closest to us -- particularly our spouses. And the more attractive and desirable you are to others, the more you'll cheat. So in your experience, what makes it work? And what makes it a worthwhile experience?

  • Grocery shopping on a budget, for someone who has never had to cook. Help, please!!?

Somehow I coasted through college with dining halls and free meals at events, and my first year and a half in the real world I realize I have a huge problem. I eat out too much. I eat out more than I can AFFORD. And I have to stop.

This weekend I've committed myself to shopping at grocery stores and eating healthy and cheap. But now I need help. For those of you who cook food most of the time, what are the staples that I need to have each week in order to be successful? I'm allegic to gluten (wheat, barley, rye, flour, soy sauce, etc.) so bread products are definitely out of the question, and out of my budget. I'm hoping to manage under $50 a week in groceries. Under $25 would be fantastic but probably impossible for me.

So if any of you have ideas or are good at being frugal, please share! Also, if you have tips for what kinds of meals can be prepared once and then last a while (don't say chili, I'm good at that one already), share those too!

    Thanks!!!

  • Delta H formation charts ... how to use in calculating delta H rxn?

This is kind of a stupid question, please be nice!

If I'm calculating delta H and delta S for a rxn, ultimately to calculate delta G and find out whether it's spontaneous or not, and my value table has delta H formation...

When I have products and reactants, do I ever have to reverse the sign?

    For example, in

    AgCl --> Ag+ + Cl-,

Would I take the negative of the AgCl value in the table, because it's not being formed, but taken apart?

Or is there some reason why the value in the table is just the blanket value that you use? If that's the case, could someone explain why?

    Thanks!!
