  • Find an equation from a graph of a rational function?

    I'm stumped on this precalc question! Here's the graph I'm wrestling with:

    I need to find an equation for this thing. So far I've identified the vertical asymptotes (x=0, x=2), the oblique asymptote (y=-x+1), x-intercepts (-1,1,3) and I think I've got my numerator as (x+1)(x-1)(x-3). Where do I go from here? Any help would be great, especially if you can show me how to approach this. Will award best answer to a clear, reasonably guided response.

  • Simplify function expressions, assuming f(x) is even? Help!?

    I feel like I've got a decent grasp on functions, but this homework problem is confusing me... what exactly am I being asked here?

    14. If f(x) is an even function, simplify the expressions:

    a) f(x) + f(-x)

    b) f(x) - f(-x)

  • Accordion experts: Hohner not making sound when keys & bellows activated. Advice?

    I just won a 1937 Hohner student accordion in an online auction. It looks like it's in decent cosmetic shape, and none of the keys are sticking or missing. However, the seller (who is not a player) says there is no sound when the keys are held down while the bellows are compressed...

    My question for accordion experts: Does this mean the thing is broken or missing parts? Is this a simple fix or a major repair? The seller is giving me the option of backing out, but the whole deal is $50 shipped, so I'm wondering whether I should grab it anyway and see if maybe the seller just doesn't know how to use it. Any help is appreciated!

    P.S. I am a novice myself -- this will be my first accordion.

  • Seattle dwellers, what were your last couple electric bills?

    Seattleites, what were your last 2 or 3 electric bills? (Monthly or bi-monthly, please specify.) If you could also add info about what kind of place you live in and your general area, that would be very helpful.

    I live alone and I recently got slammed with a couple crazy bills from City Light despite my energy conservation with CFL bulbs and very little heat. It was never this expensive last year. I want to know if I'm alone or if something's wrong with my meter or appliances.
