  • need a new hairstyle?

i am so bored with my hair. right now its shoulder length with some layers that are kind of outgrown (hasn't been cut in a while, at least 7 weeks...). I have side bangs. I need a haircut desperately and want a change. My hair is mostly straight (it has weird little flips that I straighten every day). It's kind of a dark blonde with a hint of red color, I want to get it died back to my natural color (light ash brown) but will have to wait a bit on that.

I need a new haircut. It has to be shoulder length or shorter, should have layers (my hair has absolutely no body without layers... tends to look kind of triangular) and it has to have bangs. My hair is very fine, so nothing requiring super thick hair. Must be a cut that looks good with straight hair. Please help, 10 pts for bester answer.

    Thanks!

  • Distances between jumps ?

For an average sized horse stride, could someone tell me how far apart jumps should be for a bounce, a one stride and a two stride?

    Thanks

  • halter rubs [20characters]?

I went to look at a horse for sale and she had a major halter rub on her nose. The owners say that shes not turned out with it but the halter looked way too small for her and the rub was right under it. Basically the hair was rubbed off under the halter on the noseband, the skin wasn't broken. My mare gets rubs really easily and has to be turned out in her halter (barn rule) so I use a soft padded leather halter that is adjusted to hang just a little long and that works fine. Would do the same for this horse. I really liked the horse otherwise, but I show, so I want to clarfiy - the hair will grow back right? (that is if the rubbing stops). Is there anything that can be done to heal them quicker? How long does it take to heal?

  • Finding a narrow tree seems impossible?

So, I am looking into (have had two trial rides, will buy if he passes PPE) a 13 yr old TB gelding. He has high withers and my medium tree saddle just seems a little too wide. I think he needs a narrow, but cannot seem to find one (I'm obviously not buying anything till I buy him, but want to be prepared). I went through about 10 pages of saddles on dover, and all seem to come in reg or wide (some come in MW). Now I am no expert, but to me, his topline conformation seems to be fairly typical for a TB (I have seen many with higher withers). So, where do all the TB owners find properly fitting saddles? I sure can't.

Just wanted to add... I am looking for an english close contact saddle, suitable for show in hunters.

  • Grey horses and melanomas ?

One of the horses I am looking at for sale is a grey. Should I be concerned about him developing melanomas? How common are they? Is there any way to prevent them? It is too cold where I live to turn out at night in the winter.

  • Fitting a saddle to a high wither TB?

Can anyone help me out with this? I need a close contact, good enough to show in. My medium tree is a little bit too wide, sits a little too low and comes to close to the withers during riding. Should I get a narrow? I will get someone experienced to help me check the fit of any saddle but would like some advice so I have somewhere to start out with saddle shopping. I can't show in anything synthetic so no Wintecs please.

  • Standardbreds as sport horses?

I've gotten to the point that I am WAY too big for my pony :( It's time to move on and move up to a bigger horse, so I've started looking at ads. Mostly I've been looking along the lines of WBs, TB crosses etc as I am a hunter rider. I'm trying to avoid too many full TBs (willing to try them, but a little more doubtful of them) cause I generally like horses that have a bit more whoah then go. Either way I somehow (god knows how) ended up clicking on an ad for a standardbred. -gasp-. Suprisingly enough, I found the horse on the ad to be really cute. And wayyy cheaper than anything else I've looked at. Now I might get flamed for this, but there is a definate stigma against standardbreds in the sport horse world. I don't want to sell whatever horse I get, giving up my pony was hard and the next one is a forever horse. I'm looking to do lower to mid level hunters. Is the standardbred even worth looking into?

  • saddle survey ! [20 characters]?

This is just for fun, but can also be informative for people looking for a new saddle! This is just a general review of your saddle, what you like about it/what you don't. Any kind of saddle, western, english, whatever. Include everything you can:

What did you buy the saddle for? (i.e. hunter, dressage, western pleasure etc.)

What brand is it? (i.e. Crosby)

What model is it? (i.e. Prix de Nations)

What do you like about it?

What don't you like about it?

include stuff like how it fit different horses and riders, how it held up to wear, how easy it was to break in, how suitable was it (i.e. you could say that you found the seat too deep to do a lot of jumping for an AP saddle), what you thought of the appearance. would you recommend it to anyone? ---- that sort of thing

  • Horse coughing? [20 characters]?

My 6 year old mare has been coughing lately. She is perfectly healthy otherwise. She hasn't lost weight or lost interest in food and there is no discharge from her eyes and nose. She only coughs at the canter, well into her ride. Normally what happens is we are cantering and she starts coughing. I keep her going for a bit, seeing if she's going to stop, then I bring her to a jog with a loose rein. She stops coughing and I pick up the canter, coughing starts again. I cycle through this a couple times, then it is gone and she's back to normal. It doesn't happen every ride. Anyone know what this might be?

  • Best skin care products for a budget?

I have fairly sensitive combination skin. If I don't use enough cleanser, I break out in horrible acne. If I use enough cleanser but don't moisterize enough (even over one night) my skin is dry and flaky. I don't have that much money to spend on skin care products, so am looking for drugstore solutions. What is a good cleanser (to use in the mornings and at night) and a good moisterizer (one heavier one to use over night and possible I light one to use during the day) that won't break the bank?

I need a cleanser that isn't too harsh and won't dry out my skin and a moisterizer that won't clog pores :)

  • Afraid of jumping out of a canter?

I have a green(ish) pony that I started over fences last year (with help from my coach). I'm perfectly capable of riding and jumping her, she is the second horse I've started over fences and she is a really nice calm jumper, very capable, does not rush/stop at fences etc. Over the year I got her up to schooling 3'3, 2'6 consistently in courses with no problems. Late in the year I was jumping over some smallish cavaletti (2') with perfect footing, safe jumps etc. I cantered into the jump (probably the 4th time I'd jumped it in that ride) and we got a decent spot (not ideal but nothing to cry over) and something happened that made my pony fall on the landing (I have no idea what). I'm thinking it was just a freak accident, nothing could have prevented it, because we weren't doing anything dangerous. The pony completely flipped, but I got thrown clear and both of us were uninjured. After a couple days rest we returned to jumping with no issues (the pony didn't stop at anything, no loss of confidence on her part), except now I am really scared to canter into a jump. I have cantered into jumps since but the whole time I am absolutely terrified. I love to jump and really wanted to show this year, how can I get my confidence back?

  • bringing a horse back to work in a new environment?

I own a five year old mare. She was started under saddle seriously last year in March. Then she was ridden and jumped all last summer and was pretty well trained. However she is green. Since the barn she was at only had an outdoor ring, she has been out of work (very occasional short rides in the snow only) since last October. Now she is at a new, busier barn with an indoor ring. She finds the indoor very scary and this horse can have a big, dangerous spook on occasion. How can I get her used to being ridden and worked in the indoor, while also keeping it as safe as possible for myself, her and those around her?

  • what do you think? [leasing out my horse]?

So I need to part lease out my pony. She's going to be up for lease 1 or 2 days a week. I need some advice, any help is welcome.

    My main question is..

I have two saddles right now, both of them are very important to me. I realize I probably won't be lucky enough to find someone with their own tack (of course if they did I would check the fit carefully). One of them is a really really nice AP in pretty much new condition. The other is a very nice older close contact, in good condition for its age but clearly not new. The CC is my jumping and show saddle, the AP is for flatwork. I'm probably going to only let the leaser use the CC since its already worn, but would it be fair for me to put in my lease contract that they must replace any tack they break? Or is that too sketchy sounding and would that frighten too many people off?

  • Another question about bits ..?

I asked yesterday about bits for my horse and am going to try a kimberwick. Whats the difference between the "snaffle" kimberwick with the jointed mounthpiece (http://www.tackroominc.com/images/JP-Kimberwick-Jo... ) and the one that's all one piece (http://www.horsetackinternational.com/images/21189... )? Like, how is the effect on the horse different?

  • What kind of bit .. ?

I have a six year old QH X mare that I ride in hunters (hopefully soon, she hasn't shown yet). She's moving to a new barn, where there are a lot of inexperienced riders and kids riding. My mare can be really good and normally goes perfectly well in a simple very soft copper roller snaffle. However once in a while (usually associated with new/spooky environments) she leans on that bit and bolts. She can be really nasty and the snaffle isn't getting her to stop. I'm really worried that she'll do this and hurt someone else. So, for when she's in new situations, I was hoping to get a bit that will give me stronger brakes. I want to keep her in the snaffle for the most part, but want something a little stronger for times when I think she might spook. I am an experienced enough rider that I can handle a harsher bit. I know this is a problem with my horse and we are working on it. 99% of the time she is perfect and I'm confident that this won't be a regular occurence, just a risk in new situations until she is a little less green (she was started late) . I just am nervous she'll cause problems for other riders. I want to keep her mouth soft and just want to use a harsher (and when I say harsher I don't mean anything cruel, just something that gives me a little more control) bit when she's riding in the new environment. This barn is going to be a LOT busier than where she is.

So what kind of bit would you recommend?

  • horse boots for flatwork?

I ride in hunters and my horse is a 5yr old Quarter Horse X. I've always used open front boots for jumping, lunging and flatwork. I also have bell boots, but I only use them for trailering. My horse has no leg problems. I prefer to use boots to avoid the risk of leg problems. Personally, since her legs are in good shape I don't always use boots when riding on the flat, however she is leased out once or twice a week. Although I trust whoever's leasing her (I wouldn't let them ride my horse if I didn't!) I write it into my contract that she always has to wear her boots, since it makes me feel better since I can't control what they do in their rides. I was thinking of investing in a pair of boots for her to wear on the flat. What kind of boots are good for flatwork?
