  • Cardiff Gay scene for older men?

    Hi,

I'm looking for gay bars/club in the Cardiff area which are more suited to older guys? I know there's a ton of places around Cardiff but of course most of them are directed at guys between 18 - 30.

Any help would be great :)

  • Representation in a workplace for DDA (Northern Ireland)?

My friend suffers from fibromyalgia and currently works for a large company in a call centre. She was diagnosed with the condition while working for the company. To cut a long story short she is currently battling with HR at the company who seem to be completely ignoring the DDA and 'looking in to' her request for shorter hours in accordance with it while giving her disciplinaries for time off that is directly related to her disability.

She isn't fully confident in 'defending' herself in the meetings at work and the only person who she has to attend with her is her father but the company said that relatives are not allowed. Are there any unions who are able to provide support or help in any way? Possibly Citizens advice? or any disability access charities?

Please bare (bear?) in mind that she's in Northern Ireland.

  • Uni application unsuccessful, will they reconsider?

    Hi,

A friend of mine has recently applied to uni to do vet science and has had his offer declined. It's something he's wanted to do for a long time and has over 3 years experience working within a vets. A number of the vets who he works with would be willing to offer a letter of recommendation, too... and have said a number of times how much he should train to become a vet etc etc etc etc blah blah blah

He's 24 now - so would be classed as a mature student, which I would have thought would add weight to the application (having been in the area and knowing that it's a career which is suitable, and not just straight out of school and it being a flying idea).

Do you think it would be worthwhile writing to the uni asking to reconsider the application? Or is it a complete once you've been rejected, that's it.. end of story?

We're not entirely sure of the reason for rejection, he passed the first round which was qualifications and then asked to send information on work experience... then they refused the application so we're confused, his experience goes way beyond what they ask for.

    Any advice/hints/tips would be great.

    Thanks

  • Birthday present for mum (in 40s)?

    Hey...

Okay so it's my mum's birthday next month and I want to get her a better gift this year, normally I get her the usual 'guy' things like body wash, or a box of 'bath crap' and all that....

This year I want to get her something a little bit better, so I want your advice if possible!

    I'm looking to spend around £100-150 (GBP) ($150 - 230 USD) .....

So, she tends to like dainty bracelets or necklaces, things like that.... but nothing OTT... I'd like to get something designer but nothing too flashy because it's just 'not her', something that's quite classy and not pretentious, but shows that i've thought about it! (which I have before coming here for advice!)

Hopefully some 40 something year old mum/moms with the same kind of taste, or sons/daughters with a better knowledge of the industry than I do will be able to advise me on the kind of thing that they would like????

I'm trying to stray away from the desingers like Gucci who are so frequently copied that genuine articles are so often just dismissed.

P.S - It doesn't 'have' to be expensive or desinger - anything that's cute and that you/your parents would like would be great - likewise if it is over budget, but nothing over £300 ($450 USD).....

  • Blackberry buttons not working properly?

    Hey all,

Okay so my Blackberry has started to play up a bit... =[

Basically, when I press the roller ball to select something, it just types 'hl' and therefore just opens the phonebook, when i press the end call button, it types 'nm' and the call button types 'jk', so obviously I really can't do 'anything' with the phone, I can't make calls, i can't read email or SMS messages etc

As far as I know the phone hasn't got wet at any point, and really strangly it started to work fine for about five minutes or so and then started playing up again.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix it? I'm thinking it may be a software issue rather than hardware, because as I said i don't remember it getting wet, and it worked okay for a while...

    Any help would be great.

  • Dyed red hair, failed, need help?

    Hi guys and girls...

Okay, I'm a guy and I have a few pretty big nights out coming up soon so I thought i'd dye my hair RED just as a bit of a novelty - I had a look online, and spoke to a few people, and decided on the dye.... I used a regular blonde kit, and then the Schwartzkopf XXL red passion..

So I came to dye it, first off - the blonde didn't take very well. It took 'okay' to my roots (i'd previously dyed it dark brown, literally a shade darker than my natural colour) but less so to the parts that had been dyed, it showed up quite a large contrast in colour in the roots which were hardly noticable before.... anyway, I bleached it again, and it lifted it maybe another shade lighter, but still wasn't as light as i'd have liked it, but I went ahead with the red anyway in hope that it'd work.

It's taken okay, but it's very very dark and more mahogany than the bold red that I was going for - I look more like a middle aged woman whose been on a make-over programme than anything else, not quite the desired look!!!

So really, I want it much much redder, and much lighter - how about getting the Schwarzkopf Live XXL Ice Blonde and then going for the Red Passion again?

Does anyone have any ideas about how I could fix it?

  • Why won't acer 2200 connect to WLAN>?

    Hi all...

I've just been given an old Acer 2200 to 'fix'. It was just running slow and all that really needed was a format of the hard drive. Did that, installed XP, downloaded sound and wireless drivers .. and now...

When I try to connect to a WLAN, i enter the password and then it just hovers on 'Acquiring Network Address'.

Anyone have an idea what could be wrong? Other computers can connect to the network no problems so that's not the issue...

  • Why can't I move a theme from one phpbb3 to another?

    Hi guys,

Okay, I've spend a good few hours modifying a theme for a phpbb3 forum on a test forum. I've then tried to transfer the files over to the 'live' forum to install. Everything works fine (CSS wise) apart from the images; header, background and the new post icons etc.

Does anyone know why this could be?

I've tried to copy the comlete theme's folder from one server to another, and i've also tried to 'export' theme and then upload it to the live forum... both has the same effect. I really don't know what's going on.

    Any ideas??

  • Headaches after a fight?

Hi guys, ok, I had a little bit of a fight 6 days ago and was punched in the head/eye somewhere. The following day I, of course, came out with a black (right) eye, and also from my forehead all over my head and down to my spine (right hand side) felt really numb. Not completely numb, just slightly desensitized like I'd had a mild anesthetic.

Anyway, about three days ago, I started to get pretty bad head-aches, they normally come on about 6pm and then 5am, and are really pretty painful, but always on the left hand side, pretty much the opposite of where the numbness is on the right hand side.

They're not like migraines really, they will start with a tiny bit of mild pain which can last 10 minutes or so, and then will go on to full-on pain within a couple of seconds, It'll then generally last around 2 hours, if they happen during the night they wake up me pretty much instantly. Also, it doesn't really make any difference if there's lights on etc but I am sensitive to noise. I also feel pretty unstable/dizzy and slightly like i've taken a mild/natural sleeping pill.

I was really just wondering if the headaches could have anything to do with the fight, coming quite a while after and also being on the opposite side?

I'll also add that it wasn't a particularly hard punch it didn't hurt immediately after or in the morning and my black eye really didn't swell much at all, nor was the eye bloodshot or anything like that.

Sorry for the messed up writing, I was just writing as I thought about it so it didn't come out as clear as it could. I will visit the doctor on Monday (3 days) if they're still happening, I just wanted to see what opinions I could get on here before hand.

    Thanks.
