They are not a weapon, what justification do Police have that you can't protect yourself from say a home invasion or working at a Liquor shop that has been robbed repeatably?
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics7 years agoFacts and fiction of Electronic Warfare Aircraft used in Operation Neptune Spear?
Hi there,
I was just wondering if somebody could please explain to me the anti-radar tactics used in this Operation Neptune Spear? Now before I try to understand some points however two questions have to be answered first.
1) Is it true that Pakistan had no radars and/or operators monitoring their western border with Afghanistan?
Air Chief Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman has accepted the responsibility of air surveillance failure but informed the government that the entry of American helicopters into the Pakistani air space was not detected because the radars deployed on the western borders were not active on May 2. He dispelled the impression that the Pakistani radars were jammed.
http://defence.pk/threads/the-status-of-pakistans-... -us-raid.107254/
2) There is no doubt that the Pakistani Air Force scrambled 2 F-16s. What I can't get a definitive answer on is how close to they get to the US helos? Some reports say they were near shoot down range all the way to the US helos already back in Afghani airspace?
Firstly we know that the "stealth" Blackhawks were flying nap-of-the-earth to help defeat radar.
Secondly we know there were E-8 Joint STARS involved however aren't they just Battle Management and Command and Control aircraft rather than radar jamming?
Lastly wouldn't a Lockheed EC-130H Compass Call be a better A/C for this mission? Or what about Boeing EA-18G Growler?
Thanks,
PS Another rumor about this Operation is that there was an AC-130 gunship and F-15s on station in case it turned into an absolute clusterf.ck. So is there any truth to the AC-130 or F-15s in Pakistani airspace?
Cheers!
2 AnswersMilitary7 years agoWhy did the Prime Minister Bob Hawke cancel Knighthoods (Sirs & Dames) back in the 1980s for Australians?
We are still part of the monarchy and New Zealand still awards them so what's wrong with Knighting someone like Glenn McGrath who always gave his best when playing for Australia and now retired has raised millions for Breast Cancer nurses and research through his foundation?
2 AnswersGovernment7 years agoCan Radar Absorbent Material be useful for non stealth Fighter jets?
I just read Radar Absorbent Material on Wikipedia and still have no idea what even half of it means. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radar-absorbent_mater...
Apparently there are 4 types of RAM:
Iron ball paint absorber
Foam absorber
Jaumann absorber
Split ring resonator absorber
What I was wondering is would it be beneficial if the US Navy were to cover their F/A-18 Super Hornets and Growlers with RAM (not the old F/A-18A/B as they will be retired when the JSF is introduced)? The Air Force could try it on their F-15s, F-16s and A-10s. I'm sure if it made that much of a difference in stealth it would have done it by now? However the only A/C in the US we know it's been used on is the B-2, F-117, F-22, F-35 and the Blackhawks used in Operation Neptune Spear. Helos like the RAH-66 Comanche don't count as it was only a prototype.
The Army could try it on their AH-64 Apaches as they sometimes fly (nap-of-the-Earth) behind enemy lines avoiding enemy radar for first strike capability like in the first Gulf War.
Or does RAM not really make that much difference in stealth? Is stealth against radar more to do with the angles and shapes of the outside edges of the A/C?
Thanks.
5 AnswersMilitary7 years agoWhy has the A-10 Thunderbolt II never been sold to any foreign countries?
especially ones which it has close military ties. Just like its ONLY sold it's F-15s to Israel, Saudi Arabia and Japan. Countries which there is no closer ally to the US (Australia and Canada) have no need for this aircraft.

It's seems a bit dumb putting most of all our Super Hornets and C-17s at one base. A couple of cruise missiles and we are screwed.
