  • Using a Splitter as a Mixer?

I was just checking to make sure that it is indeed possible to take any plain old 3.5mm splitter (such as this one http://img.en.china.cn/0/0,0,489,17144,500,500,25c... as a passive mixer. In other words, have it combine both inputs of stereo audio into one. I sometimes use my laptop--and other times my iPod--as the input to my iHome. Rather than constantly moving the cable between devices, it'd be easier to have one dedicated to each. So, just combining the channels passively would work well for me here because I'll only be using one at a time, but want instant availability to both.

So, can a splitter simply function in reverse? It seems like it would but I'm just making sure. Thanks!

  • Penalty for crossing U.S. border without documentation?

I'm just curious to know what the penalty would be for smuggling a native U.S. citizen into Canada and back. The penalty for each crossing individually would be best. Thanks!

  • Does an un-rooted Android device still leave traces of the root?

I have an HTC Evo (original) which has a defective kickstand and battery door after about one year of use. For most of the time I have had the phone rooted, and love the features. Of the terms and conditions of warranty repair with HTC, however, one is that no unauthorized software be present on the phone. Naturally, this requires me to remove the rooted OS and return it to stock. The question I have, which I can't find answered anywhere else is: Does an un-rooted Android device still leave traces of the root? I'm not sure of the ClockWorkMod loader, or other software is able to be removed, cleanly without detection. If it is, do you have a concise tutorial on how to do so? If not, what do you suggest? Thanks!

  • Need to convert/amplify male stereo RCA to speaker wire?

What would be the cheapest/most effective way to convert the signal and make the amplification decent enough to play for a wedding? The listening radius is probably about 30 feet in an outside environment, however it will be dead silent. Any ideas?! Thanks!

  • Can't access internal resources with external addresses?

New router today, and everything is awesome! I have everything set up, but for some reason I can't access internal resources with external addresses. For example, I have a web server hosted inside the network and can't access it with the attached URL ******.webhop.net, OR with the IP address. The DNS updating is current and other people not in the local network have no problem connecting to it. So I guess my question is, what would prevent me from being able to connect back to my web server (for example) using a non-intranet address/DNS name, when I could before! I'm quite confused. Thanks :)

  • Weird pointy black things from overflowing river?

My grandfather just gave me a bag of these of black hollow things which he say show up in his yard when the river overflows. They are about an inch in diameter, and have 3 to 4 points on them. They have a shriveled texture to them and are hard. Don't know much more about them. We live in the Upstate New York area, if that helps. Any idea?

  • Can't send packets from my network across school's router?

I am setting up a small network to resemble a demo corporate network, and it all will run through a linux or windows server (whichever one ends up having easier tools) acting as a router and firewall. The problem is that the school's network won't "know" about the network, and therefore has no idea what to do with the packets that have the networks addresses on them. So, I guess what I need to do is set up a proxy at the segment of the network where it attaches to the school's network, so I can connect my little network to the internet. What OS and programs should I use to accomplish this? Do you know of any tutorials to do it? Thanks!

  • How to copy all iTunes music apart from DRM protected to another computer?

I'm trying to give a friend my music, but I don't want to copy over the iTunes DRM protected music because it won't work anyways. So, does anyone know of a way that would be easy to sort out the DRM protected music from the music that isn't so I can copy it over to his computer? Thanks!

  • Can't get through to Delta on the phone, what do they expect you to do?

So I'm trying to get a hold of Delta reservations on the phone so I can change my flights. I need to talk to them because I have a medical emergency scenario. What do they expect me to do?

  • Flight Missed Because of Medical Emergency on Delta, Question About Rebooking?

Well, thanks to the stupid ash cloud over Europe and the 100,000 people calling the Delta 800 number, I can't find out what I need from them. One of the people on our Delta airline reservations had a medical emergency and was taken to the hospital from the airport via ambulance. Due to the situation, the Delta representative at the terminal told us we could have another available flight without additional fees or expenses of any kind when she was capable of flying. Well, we're hoping on getting out ASAP. So, I'm looking for flights from ALB to MBJ (Albany, NY to Sangster, Jamaica) on Sunday. Unfortunately, every flight looks like it's going to end up requiring us to fly business class some leg of the trip. Is Delta still going to cover those expenses, or is business class not included in the "no fees or expenses" we were told at the airport? I'm really not interested in a 24 hour total trip duration flight involving 3 connections. Thanks!

  • Unusual ball-like structure on foot below ankle?

On the inside of both of my feet, about an inch and a half below the ankle joint, I have a ball-like bone. It's quite dominant and about 3/4 inch in diameter. Oddly finding out that none of my friends have this, I assume it's unusual. I am curious to know what condition this is, and any other information you have about this. Thanks!

  • A good wireless cable modem to buy?

I have Time Warner Road Runner cable internet and I am thrilled with the service--when it works. Unfortunately, they're cable modem/wireless router's suck. I have gone through 2 of the things and still have the wireless connectivity problems I had before. I know it's not the lines because the technician has already been to the house, etc. and all the computers connected via ethernet work just fine. So I know it's just the poor quality modem. Therefore, I would like to purchase one of my own. So like my question says, do any of you have a suggestion for a good cable modem with a wireless router (802.11g only, nothing fancy) based on personal experiences, etc.? As far as configuration goes, I only need to be able to forward a few ports and configure a DMZ, but I would imagine any router you suggest could do that. Thanks!

  • Audio feed to act as microphone?

Okay, so here's what I need. Essentially I want a program that takes, say, an MP3 and then feeds them to an INPUT device, something like a microphone. This way, I could broadcast something without playing the MP3 over a speaker, then bringing it back into the computer through a computer next to the speaker. Anyone know how to do this? Thanks!

  • EVGA X58 3X SLI Motherboard PCI-e slots?

I was just wondering if anyone would be able to tell me which of the three PCI-3 ports on this motherboard are x16 and which ones are only x8.

    http://www.evga.com/PRODUCTS/enlarge.asp?PN=132-BL...

This picture is the motherboard. If you could tell me the speed of each slot beginning from the one closest to the northbridge, and going down. Thanks!

  • How to route traffic to a specific NIC, when you have two installed?

    Running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2

    Default Gateway=192.168.0.1

    NIC 1 IP=192.168.0.2

    NIC 2 IP=192.168.0.3

Okay, in case you're wondering, I have two Network Interface Cards installed and enabled for the eventual VPN I am setting up. The problem I am running into right now is that programs and services on this server (the computer with 2 NICs) is using NIC no. 2 for all internet traffic, when I want it through NIC no. 1. I thought by forwarding the ports of the programs I want to run through NIC no. 1 through the router, that the packets would thus be delivered to NIC no. 1 and the programs would work. But, when I try to do this the client applications fail to connect to their server counterparts. However, when I direct the client computers to the IP address of NIC no. 2, they connect and work perfectly.

So the problem and question at hand here, is how in the heck do I get the programs to use NIC no. 1 and forget that NIC no. 2 is even there and enabled.

Thanks so much, I appreciate this!!

  • Absolute Value Question | 2 + - 5 |?

Using absolute value, is the equation | 2 + - 5 | (Two plus negative five) 3 or is it 7. In other words, when beginning the equation does the negative on the 5 disappear first, then you begin to solve the equation (giving you 7), or do you add the integers together and then find the absolute value (giving you 3)? Thanks!!

  • 3-way SLI on GTX260 Core 216, is it worth it?

Okay, so I currently have 2 of the older model EVGA GTX260 Core216 Superclocked (http://www.evga.com/articles/00429/) and I am looking at my options for a graphics upgrade. I am perfectly satisfied with my current graphics capability, but as always, it would be awesome to increase the capability. So I am now looking to add one of the new GTX260 Core216 superclocked cards from EVGA into my SLI setup (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTool...

So the question is, would it really be worth it to run tri-SLI or is the scalability simply not worth the price for the card. I know that adding the third card is the least performance increase of the set, but what I really want to know is if it is worth it at all. I have heard a lot of different things. What's your input? Thanks!

**Don't worry about PSU or anything, I have all of that covered, just tell me about the performance please, I have everything else covered.

  • Create a little program that will make a line break (space) where ",0" shows up?

I have a line of text that looks like this:

    -84.43943071126869,33.63751617825896,0

what I need this little program is take the:

"-84.43943071126869" and put it in one place, while the

"33.63751617825896" goes to another place. The "," that separates the two strings is simply there to show they are separate strings, therefore they need to be separated. The ",0" at the end denotes that the line ends.

Another problem is that there are several hundred of these

    "-84.43943071126869,33.63751617825896,0"

all in one line, each full string seperated by 1 space. Essentially its a whole bunch of those strings without word wrap. Unfortunately, word wrap is not an option.

Now, where they would "go" is the final problem. The ideal thing is that I put the big line of all the different "-84.43943071126869,33.63751617825896,0" into this program and it would separate them into two columns of data to end up looking like this...

    http://dumud.net/~bmoran/test/example.html

(click the link to see what i mean)

If this could be done in like excel, that would be awesome. If not, any ideas? Thanks!

Also, keep in mind that not all the "full strings" are exactly

"-84.43982489873234,33.64084557679008,0" They all have the same amount of digits and in the same place. The numbers just differ. So the numbers would have to be represented by variables. I really hope this is enough info. And if you get this to work I will be forever grateful. Please help! Thanks!!
