Lentil Stir Fry Recipe?
I need a recipe high in folic acid, preferably some kind of stir fry. Was thinking lentils with high-folate vegetables or chicken with noodles, but what other vegetables may go well with lentils in a stir fry?
Thanks
2 AnswersCooking & Recipes8 years agoUnwell betta - diagnosis/advice?
Tank Specs:
Stock - 1 male betta, amano shrimp
Size - 28L
Heated, filtered, regular w/cs
Ammonia 0, NitrIte 0, NitrAte 40 (do have some in tap water so cannot keep it particularly low)
Had betta since June '12, bacterial colony established around 3 years ago
To put it in short:
Betta has been lethargic over the past 5 days or so, parts of front fins have turned white, fin rot/anti- fungal medication seemingly uneffective after a couple of days, now refusing food, looking a little bloated, excrement does look a little stringy (parasites?)
Any advice is welcomed, many thanks.
2 AnswersFish8 years agoNexus 7 Vs iPad Mini?
I've been thinking about getting a tablet and I've got my choices down to these two. It seems to be a popular topic on the web and they seem rather good competition for each other. My choice is between the 3G 32GB Nexus 7 or the bottom-range WiFi 16GB iPad Mini which cost £239 and £269 respectively. The Nexus is undoubtedly better value for money from what I've read and I like idea of being able to take it wherever I wish, however the app store, cameras and shape/look of the iPad are tempting me in said direction.
I'm looking for some opinions on the two tablets. What are the pros/cons of either in your experience? Any reviews are appriciated.
Thanks
3 AnswersLaptops & Notebooks8 years agoOpinions on the Nexus 7 Tablet?
I'm considering purchasing the 3G version of the Nexus 7 tablet, though I'd like some thoughts on it beforehand.
Anyone who has or knows about the Nexus 7 tablets, any opinions on them? For someone who already owns a 3rd generation iPod touch, phone and netbook, is there any point in investing in a tablet? My iPod, being out of date now, is unable to handle some of the newer apps and I'd like something that's quicker and easier than my laptop which can be slow. However I just don't know if it's fully worth the £239 cost. The iPad Mini has crossed my mind although with such a higher price tag for the equivalent spec, I've been put off.
Any comments/opinions etc welcome, thanks.

I need a dessert that will take less than an hour to make and based around a sauce. When looking through some recipe books, I found a couple of mousse and syllabub recipes, but would you class them as sauces?

1 AnswerCooking & Recipes9 years agoAquarium lighting questions?
Have been wondering how long I should be keeping my aquarium light on. It's an Aquastart 320 (housing a single male betta and various small invertebrates) with the standard lighting, which I believe is 11w flourescent lighting with 7.1K. Plants in the tank include anubias, java fern (which has been turning brown), various cryptocorynes, vallis and a 'moss' ball which I hope to get rid of soon. I have thought of trying glossostigma or pogostemon helferi in the past as a small foreground plant, although without CO2 and not the best lighting, I don't know if they would grow well.
Currently the light is switched on at around 4:30pm and switched off at around 10pm, but I'm not sure whether this is the right thing. Unfortunately I don't have a timer for the lighting. Need I change the lighting time and if so, what should I change it to?

2 AnswersFish9 years agoAquarium with algae issues?
I've been trying to sort out a friends' tank for months but to little result. It's not been, on the whole, too well cared for and is also placed with the back of the tank facing a window. There have been no end of algae issues in the tank - even gutting it out and doing fairly lengthy 'blackouts' has failed to get rid of it.
I am aware that the window may be largely responsible for the algae, what with the light and putting black paper to block out the light hasn't helped. I may be able to get it moved to a shadier spot, but I did wonder if there are any other possible causes for the algae. The tank is cycled and is 2ft with guppies, so while I wouldn't consider it seriously overstocked, I would say it was somewhat overstocked as the guppies have bred and continue to do so regularly being livebearers. Water changes, I believe, are also done with conditioned water.
So, any other possible causes of the algae that you could think of?

10 AnswersHistory9 years agoBlackberry Curve 8520 Won't Turn On Properly?
All worked fine until the housing was replaced due to the original housing being scratched. After doing this, the handset will not properly power on. When turned on, the red light and keypad lights will come on, but nothing will happen on screen.
Battery pulls have been tried, as has plugging the device into a wall charger while trying to turn it on which I read somewhere may help.
Any advice on how to get it working again?
Thanks
1 AnswerPDAs & Handhelds9 years agoWould a filterless shrimp setup work?
If you just kept shrimp (eg cherries) in a 15L Baby-BiOrb with plenty of live plants, would it require a filter if weekly water changes were made to reduce toxin levels?

3 AnswersFish9 years agoMy bettas keep getting fin rot?
Over the past few years I've kept several bettas, all of whom have got fin rot after a few weeks/months with me. Thing is, I don't know why.
From what I understand, it's usually caused by poor water quality. However, my media is cycled (and has been running for over 2 1/2 years now) and I do 25-30% water changes weekly. I do usually have at least 10-20ppm nitrate as I have fairly high levels in my tapwater, though I'm pretty certain from what I've read that while not ideal, those levels aren't harmful.
My current betta lives alone in his 7.4 US gallon (28L) heated + filtered tank aside from a few small cherry shrimp and some snails. There isn't any sharp or coarse decor that I know of that could tear or damage his fins either (all the plants are live and I also have some wood in there, though I don't think it could damage his fins). Yet, after just a month or so, I've noticed his fins have started to 'decrease', just like my past bettas' have and there are black 'edges' to some of his fins. He did have some black edges when I bought him, though I thought they'd go with regular w/cs. I've tried treating it with 'Interpet anti fungus and fin rot' (I think it's called something similar to that) medication for the past couple of weeks, though haven't noticed any improvements and if anything, the fins have simply continued to decrease.
Anyone got any ideas why my fish keep getting fin rot and what I could do to get rid of/prevent it?
Many Thanks
1 AnswerFish9 years agostocking tank questions?
15g:
- 8-10 pygmy cories
- 8 khulis
- 8-10 ember tetras/galaxy rasbra/microrasbora
- 3-5 otos
- male betta
Would it be better to choose between either the khulis or pygmys?
10g:
- 8-10 pygmy cories
- 8-10 ember tetras/galaxy rasbora/ microrasbora
- 3-5 otos
- 1 male betta (would this be pushing it too much?)
Just thinking of rough ideas for possible future tanks, thanks :)
4 AnswersFish9 years agoStocking/tank size question?
Was just wondering what sized tank I'd need for something along the lines of:
- 10 or so microrasbora or similar sized fish OR a single male betta
- 10 or so pygmy cories
- 5 ottos
Thanks :)
2 AnswersFish9 years ago28L betta tank stocking?
Would 3 otos work in this tank size with a betta? I would be willing to suppliment their diets with the likes of zucchini and possibly algae-covered rocks too. What gets me is tank sizes for otos - some suggest 50L, some keep them in tanks as small as 5 gallons or less.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
4 AnswersFish9 years agoWhere to buy 'fancy' bettas in the UK?
I've checked finzntailz, eBay and aquarists classifieds, but there either isn't the "right one" on eBay/Aquarists Classifieds or the prices are simply too high on FinznTailz (just under £60 including postage for some of them!). Anyone know of any nice breeders/shops I might be able to get one from? I'm looking in the region of £30 including p&p but can go over a little for the right fish. I'd ideally like a HM, but I'm interested in any "dumbos" too.

2 AnswersMathematics9 years agoBest flute models - looking to upgrade?
I have been playing the flute for 5 years now and I'm looking for an upgrade to my current flute. I'm looking for a good, reliable brand and have a budget of around £600 (ish), though I may be able to go over this a little for the right instrument. I'd like some precious metal, but that is not essential.
I have looked into the Trevor James Cantabile range in the past - any thoughts? I am aware that they are generally around £800-£900, though I have found one cheaper in a small local music store.
What models/brands would you suggest?
Many Thanks
1 AnswerPerforming Arts9 years agoGood flute brands/models?
Looking for a good quality flute up to around the £400 mark. I'd like a good brand/model, though the material isn't nescescarily so important (eg how much is silver, etc). I'd like one with a high quality sound and a brand/model with a good reputation would be ideal. I would prefer to buy a new instrument rather than a used one.
Thanks
2 AnswersPerforming Arts9 years agoBest food/diet for pymgy cories?
I really want to give my pygmy cories a good, well rounded diet. I would appriciate some brand/product names of foods which would be good for them and a weekly feeding regime for them would be great if possible. I don't mind purchasing a range of different foods for them, though I cannot buy frozen/live foods due to storage restrictions and personal preferance (freeze-dried, however, is fine).
Many Thanks
