  • Selling inherited property?

I inherited a piece of land at my father's death. He paid about $8,000 for it, and I'm currently attempting to sell it for $40-$50,000. He lived in Massachusetts, I live in California, and the land is in Florida. Can anyone tell me what I will need to pay as far as taxes, and how the taxes are figured out?

  • Who knows CA Labor Law? Need help w/ refusal to pay sick time.?

I had oral surgery done, and the long and short of it is that although I handed in a note and was told at that time that the note was adequate, after quitting the job (I quit before I actually got the sick pay) I kept getting told "it's coming, it's coming", but nothing ... a manager was supposed to look into it, and then went on vacation for three weeks... Now it's 3 months later and they're telling me "We don't have the note you're talking about." Even though I got ANOTHER note from the doctor, they say "Too bad, so sad!" Seems pretty retaliatory to me... can they do that? Lead me to believe it's okay, string me along, and then change their minds?
