Diet_smartie

I've just purchased a new DVD RW slimline drive for my Dell Inspiron 2200. It's a Nec Optiarc ad-7543A. I've taken out my old one and replaced it with this but I can't seem to get my laptop to recognise it. I know there is power reaching it because when I insert a disc it spins and the light comes on. The drive is not showing up in "my computer" or in the device manager. I've tried using the "add new hardware" feature but it doesn't seem to be detecting it. I don't know much about hardware but I checked BIOS and couldn't find an entry for the drive there either. I read about "jumpers" but I can't seem to locate them on the drive and I'm not sure if it even has any. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My brothers girlfriend is mexican and she's moving here (Ireland) at Christmas. I've never met her but i want to get her something nice for Christmas to make her feel welcome. Any ideas would be much appreciated.
