3 AnswersAircraft9 years agoP2P, is it only illegal if you get caught?
The RIAA has successfully prosecuted a case against a MN woman for $1.92M for the crime of downloading 24 copyrighted songs from a P2P network.
Is it the same if I use an audio recorder and record songs from the radio or from any number of free streaming sites out there? Have I committed the same offense as P2P sharing?
Mind you the only difference is the method and to a lesser extent the quality.
The evidence trail is critical to their case. Is that the only reason this is a crime? If so that would suggest it is only illegal if you get caught.
What do you think?
5 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoI want to play poker with you, only the rules will be "living and breathing". How is this going to end?
There are those who believe the constitution is a living and breathing document. That is to say it changes as times change. More directly, the constitution means only what they say it means right now.
But since the constitution actually states the 'rules' for this country, since it is really our instruction manual how could we count on anything if it is not set in stone? Does a contract or, a loan get subjective when it no longer suits your needs? How about when it no longer suits the bank's needs.

12 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoHow can a tax on US oil companies lower the price of a global commodity?
These are the people who effectively recover, refine and deliver the product we need. Do any of you remember gas lines?
How will punishing them to quell some sense of envy (inherent in most liberals) make the situation any better. I think it is exactly the wrong thing to do.
There are plenty of companies whose profits on a percentage of their total sales have far outpaced any of these oil companies in recent quarters. Below are a few quick 'Net Profit Margin' numbers for a recent quarter (like last month) obtained very easily from Google.
exon Mobile 10.00%
Chevron 7.94%
Conoco Philips 7.32%
Bp 8.60%
Royal Dutch Shell 8.05%
Boeing 7.54%
Ge 10.32%
3M 15.57%
Microsoft 30.36%
Cisco 20.95%
Bayer Schering Pharma 12.17%
Merck & Co., Inc. 56.73%
Pfizer Inc. 23.58%
Spite, and revenge helps no one. I think the liberals are not in fact trying to help us, they want us weaker and this effort has been in play for years.
14 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoWhy do trucking companies financially discourage their drivers from lumping freight.?
Ive been doing this job on and off since the early 90's, and it always bothered me that companies will pay drivers so much less than they will pay lumpers. I have my theories to explain this, but I have no way to prove or disprove them.
I am looking for someone who has inside information, who may have worked within the infrastructure of a company and who has dealt with such decisions and the reasons for them. Please support your assertion as best you can.
Thanx.

I have a 1998 Pontiac Montana van. It runs fine, but it constantly senses low traction. This kicks the cruise control off and causes a judder in the drive train. In order to correct it you must change the accelerator position. (ie. more power or less power)
Can I disable the traction control mechanism somehow? How does the Montana detect low traction? Any idea on what might correctly fix such a problem?
Thanx...
5 AnswersPontiac1 decade agoHow is the "Kelo Decision" consistent with Liberals favoring the plight of the 'little guy'?
Liberals in government and in the realm of political ideas tend to court groups and individuals whom they see as disadvantaged. They poise themselves as 'defenders of the little guy'.
Unions, racial groups, women and homosexuals tend to favor Democrats at the polls because of the high concentration of liberal ideology in that party.
Republicans and conservatives on the other hand are largely perceived to cater to big business and money.
The Kelo decision was a case that made it from the city of New London, Connecticut, to the highest court in the US.
The question:
Can eminent domain be used by local government to transfer property from one private entity to another?
The decision would find the moderate-liberal justices in the majority and the unlikely pairing of all the conservatives with the single most liberal justice dissenting.
The court allowed the seizure. The little guy was quashed in favor of an alliance of big business and government.
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoHow do we best support our troops??
The US Military is an all volunteer force. The average enlistment is four years. If the war has been going on for four years, it stands to reason that most of the troops either joined after the war had begun, or had an opportunity to get out of the military during the war.
A few may have had longer enlistments and are just coming up for re-enlistment. Still others may have taken the gamble that their unit would not get called up. Its still a small percentage.
It seems evident that most of the troops who are there want to finish this war.
Do we best support them by pulling them out, or by helping them do what they are there for?

7 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoWhere are the media's concern for the Geneva Convention regarding the 15 British Hostages?
I recall many claims against the US regarding alleged violations of the Geneva Conventions coming from the press, the enemy and from the American Democrat party. There was much ink mostly about the actions of a few, not official US policy.
In the case of this new Iranian Hostage event, there is no question that this is the official policy of the Iranians.
Hostages have been taken. Even after it was established through photographic and GPS evidence that the 'arrest' was erroneous, Iran has not returned the hostages.
Hostages' images were used in propaganda. Statements are being coerced and publicized for political advantage.
The woman, Faye Turney has been dressed in a head scarf.
These are all clear violations of the Geneva Conventions yet I haven't seen stories addressing this situation as such.
My question is WHY?
