I usually have nothing to say here. I will write about my user name though. It was "Chris Y", but my account was deactivated for allegedly being in violation for a question I posted. They allowed me to dispute this, but all I received in return was a generic email that didn't even apply to my case, and it also stated that once an account is deactivated, it can't be reinstated. That kind of defeats the purpose of telling them why a violation was a mistake. I've been a member since June 2006 and had answered about 256 questions with 10%-11% best answers. I also had about 2,101 points accumulated.

  • Which computer for Photo Editing?

Please note, if you're not going to give a definitive answer, then don't answer at all or I will just report you.

    How not to answer:

    1) Upgrading to a more newer PC with a dual-core processor/more RAM/64-bit OS.

    2) Use a different version of Photoshop

    3) Use a different photo-editing program.

What's listed is what I have to work with.

I am currently running Photoshop CS4 on a Dell Dimension 4100 with a 797mhz Pentium 3 processor and a maximum RAM capacity of 512mb. The speed is tolerable and I don't mind it.

I have a choice between this and 2 other desktops to use Photoshop CS4 and maybe CS5 in the future. I am well aware of the "requirements" of both. Here they are anyways:

    CS4: 1.8 ghz CPU and 512MB (1GB recommended) RAM.

    CS5: Pentium 4 CPU (1.3 ghz - 3.8 ghz) and 1 gb of RAM.

One of the other choices is a Dell OptiPlex GX1 with a 498mhz Pentium 3 processor and a maximum RAM capacity of 768MB.

The other choice is a Dell OptiPlex GX150 with a 1ghz/930mhz Pentium 3 processor and a maximum RAM capacity of 512MB.

The computer I use now is sort of in the middle, so should I continue to use it or switch to one of the other desktops?

I will be running Windows XP on an 80gb 7200rpm HDD, and this is a computer mainly for photo-editing.

  • More RAM or Processing Power for Photo Editing?

I'm trying to put together a decent desktop to run Photoshop CS4, and maybe CS5 in the future. I have two older computers to choose from.

One is a Dell OptiPlex GX1 with a 498mhz Pentium 3 processor and a maximum RAM capacity of 768mb.

The other computer is a Dell Dimension 4100 with a 797mhz Pentium 3 processor and a maximum RAM capacity of 512mb.

From what I've read on forums, more RAM as opposed to increased processor speed would be better for photo editing. The requirements of CS4 however, is 1.8 ghz CPU and 512mb (1GB recommended) of RAM. The requirements of CS5 is a pentium 4 CPU (1.3 ghz - 3.8 ghz) and 1 gb of RAM.

I will be running Windows XP on an 80gb 7200rpm HDD, and this is a secondary computer mainly for photo editing.

    Which desktop should I pick?

Is the opposite better for just web browsing?

Please don't suggest I run Photoshop on my main computer or use a different version or different photo-editing program. Also, don't suggest buying a new computer.

Photoshop CS4 CAN run on these machines.

  • English Revision???????????

When writing about someone in denial, what's a better way of saying "she made herself think,,,," insert a truth she doesn't want to believe. ?

"Forcing herself to think" isn't good

"Fooling herself into thinking" can't be used(already used too much)

  • Frozen food in compost?

Can frozen fruit/peels be composted? Should they be thawed first before putting them in compost?

If they can be put in without thawing, should they be put on top, or the center, where it's hottest and has the most activity going on?

  • Problem with new RAM?

    just upgraded my computer's RAM from 1GB total dual-channel to 2GB total dual-channel. It's PC2-5300 667MHZ, the highest I could find.

Before, Windows Experience Index ranked my RAM/Operations Per Second as a 4.2. After I installed the new RAM, Windows Experience Index ranked my RAM/Operations Per Second as a 2.0, then a 2.1 when I clicked "Update my score".

It being Microsoft and all, I don't look that deep into it, but why is it doing this?

Everything loads and seems faster. I did find that when i had a bunch of stuff open, an HD video on YouTube didn't play smooth, but it worked itself out eventually. However, when my running programs were doing some CPU-intensive work, the same video didn't play smooth, if at all.(The video stayed on one image and would change to a new image about every 3+ seconds.

The RAM is installed properly and the computer recognizes the new hardware.

My computer is running Vista Premium with Aero turned off. I maxed out the RAM filling both slots with 1GB. It is Pentium Dual Core, and a Gateway laptop.

I think Windows Experience Index might not be that good, but what's going on?

    Is the RAM bad?

Should I switch back to the old RAM?
