  • Does my brother have a mental illness?

He's going to be 30 soon and he has always been a strange person. When we were kids he would throw screaming, crying tantrums when he lost at a game (board game, video game, even pretend games..). When my parents would ask him to do something for them, he would intentionally do it completely wrong and make a big dramatic scene, which ended with someone else doing it. He belittles people and acts arrogant, like he's better and smarter than they are. He lies all the time. He lies so much, and about such insignificant things that I cant believe a word he says. When he dislikes a story that someone else is telling, or an action they are performing, he just stands within eye shot and stares at them. He has repeatedly dodged deadlines for school applications and job interviews, claiming that the institutions lost his paperwork or that they didnt tell him he needed to submit certain documents. He prolonged his education to last 10 years when it couldve been done in 4 if he was trying. My parents asked me to help figure out what is wrong with him. My father and I think he just doesnt want to move on with life since he is comfortable not having a job and living at home. My mother thinks he has a mental problem. I cant seem to find a disorder that matches all of his odd behaviors. If anyone could offer some insight, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Physics Rotational Energy?

After touching down at the bottom of his rappel, Jethro trips and rolls down the hill at the bottom of the cliff. Treating Jethro (m still 120 kg) as a solid disk (log) of radius 0.100 meter (I=mR2/2), what is his linear velocity when he lands in the creek at the bottom of the 10.0 meter slope, with a slope of 36.7o? Assume he rolls WITHOUT SLIPPING… (g = 9.80 m/s2)

    Physics Torque/Summation of Forces?

Jethro decides that it’s a good idea to rappel into the canyon next to the amusement park, since he’s scared of clowns, (a pretty common phobia, actually!). If he still has a mass of 120 kg (after dropping his large stuffed bunny), draw a free-body diagram of Jethro – you may do it on the picture. What is the tension in the rope? What are the horizontal and vertical forces on his feet? (g = 9.80 m/s2)

  • Physics momentum/impulse?

Jethro has installed a 100.0N thrust rocket engine on his 300kg (total mass – including himself)) lawnmower… How long does he need to hold down the ignition switch to reach a speed of 100 km/h? What is the net impulse applied to the mower?

  • How can I better emotionally support my long term girlfriend?

My girlfriend and I have been together for 11 years. Sometimes we will just be hanging out together, and the next thing I know she is either right about to cry or red in the face mad. I totally understand that she gets upset considering her bad childhood and our current sub-par living conditions. I'm a full time college student prepping for medical school so I'm very busy, which also adds to the stress she feels. Nothing I say makes her feel better. I feel like I've tried everything. I try to be empathetic and say stuff like "I know life is crazy right now" and "I'm sorry, I love you." She doesn't believe me. I've tried some psychological techniques to uncover what's actually bothering her so I can try to fix it. She says she wants a boyfriend and not a shrink. I've tried actually fixing the things she says are bothering her like: cleaning the house, doing laundry, tying up loose ends like paying off her school debt and fixing her car and motorcycle. After all that effort she says I only do stuff like that when shes upset and just pouts after. Apparently she has some childhood friends who can make her feel better, but when she describes what they do to actually make her feel better its crap like watch movies, or hug her. We were literally laying together in bed, hugging and watching a movie when she got upset! I am really hoping there are some people out there that can share their secrets with me. I really love her, and I want to be the one she comes to for comfort.

  • Physics: Torque on a disk?

Drawing a free body diagram of a pulley with horizontal tension (Th) to the left and vertical tension (Tv) downward on the right. I got the solution to the problem from another post, but I am wondering why the sum of torques is Tv-Th. I was under the impression that counterclockwise was the positive direction for torque.

Here is the post I got the answer from. If someone could clear this up for me I would be very happy. Thanks!

  • Physics: spring potential energy converted into kinetic energy on a horizontal plane with friction.?

A 2.95 kg block on a horizontal floor is attached to a horizontal spring that is initially compressed 0.0340 m . The spring has force constant 800 N/m . The coefficient of kinetic friction between the floor and the block is 0.45 . The block and spring are released from rest and the block slides along the floor.

The answer is 0.289m/s. Please show me how!
