Breastfeeding and periods...?
So, as far as I know I haven't had my cycle return...
But I have ha some random spotting. I was wondering if anyone experienced the same? It's so light that there's no way it can be my period. I'm breastfeeding exclusively. Thanks in advance for any help.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoNighttime cloth diapers?
I have a three month old and we've been cloth diapering... which I love. Lately the diapers I've been using at night time just aren't cutting it. She's leaking through them everytime. I've been using the bum genius all-in-ones, with the pocket. So... I'm in the market for new night time diapers. Any suggestions?
Also... a little side note - my daughter is big for her age. She's into the 6 month old clothes at 3 months...
Thanks in advance for the help!
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoI have to find a Christmas present for a pregnant lady...?
I drew my aunt's name from the pot this year. She's about 25 weeks along with her second child. The money limit is 30 bucks... so a massage is out of the question. Does anyone have any good Christmas gift ideas they'd like to share? Anything special out there for moms and moms to be?
10 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoWhat's normal?
Lately I've been really insecure with my daughter. She'll be 12 weeks this Fri. I feel like we've got to know each other really well. I'm with her pretty much every waking moment. She's wonderful! But (and this may be completely normal) she still has these horrible times of screaming, tears streaming down her face, crying. There seems to be nothing I can do about it. The gas drops appear to help - but it's making me very nervous. Am I doing something wrong? Is this normal for an almost 3 month old? I was under the impression that the crying would slowly die out but I feel like it's getting worse. And it's every night now... I just want her to be happy and not in pain. Let me know if it's normal so I can stop doubting myself and stop driving my pediatrician nuts.
5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoMoldy Bottle...?
This may be a very stupid question and perhaps I should just go with my gut and buy some more bottles but...
I recently misplaced one of my daughter's bottles. When I finally found it... mold had grown inside. I've washed it over and over again and boiled it for at least 10 min. Do you think it's safe to use?
We don't have many in this size and like most new parents I'm trying to save money, but can afford new ones if need be.
16 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoBalancing milk supply...?
I was told that after a while your milk supply will balance itself out and leak less as you and your baby get on more of a schedule.
Will this still occur if my child is cluster feeding? She eats a ton during the day... completely empties both breasts, but at night she sleeps for a good 8 hours straight. And I leak EVERYWHERE! She's about 2 months and I read something somewhere saything that this is about the time where your supply kind of evens itse;f out. Will this still happen with her sleeping and eating so much at a time?
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoBreastfeeding...?
( They should really have a seperate section for this... I know I have a lot of questions about breastfeeding. )
Ok... my 6 week old daughter and I have established a comfortable breastfeedin routineish thing finally. A good latch ect... But after she's done eating... and I can tell she's gotten enough. She starts to comfort nurse - which would be fine, except she's pulling her head all around. When I try and *gently* hold her head... she just bites down as she struggles against me. How do you teach a 6 week old that it hurts mom when she does these things? I've tried taking my breast away and offering a paci instead, but she's never been a big fan of that thing and she just screams her head off. Any suggestions?
12 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoThe immunization debate...?
Did you immunize your child?
Why or why not?
And if you did or didn't are you one of the few that suffered?
8 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoMylicon, the gas drops, are still safe for infants, right?
9 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoBellybutton and baths...?
My two week old daughter's umbilical cord fell off but that area still doesn't look completely healed. Is it alright to start real baths or should I wait for that area to heal completely to avoid infection?
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoThe Generation Gap...?
So... more and more research is being done in regards to pregnancy and parenting.
When with family members who haven't had children in a very long time, how does one put it nicely that that's not how it's done any more? Or even that that's not how you want it done with your child?
Example... I have relatives that keep telling me to let my daughter of two weeks cry it out... that it's good for her lungs. As a new first time mom how do I kindly ask them not to do that with out coming off as snobby? These are close family relatives that will be baby sitting eventually and I'd really like to know that she's being cared for in the way that I would care for her.
8 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoBreastfeeding is bonding?
I was just curious at what time, if there was one, did breastfeeding your child actually become a bonding situation.
Perhaps I'm just a bit jaded for the moment. It's only been 2 weeks but it feels more like a battlefield than a bonding situation. First there was the sore nipples and learning to latch correctly. Now that we've got that down, it seems either gas or colic has got my daughter all worked up. She bites down, pulls away and gets generally frusterated and hurts me. Any suggestions? And does everyone go through something similar and then once you have it all down it becomes that loving mother scene you see in the pictures, or do I need to expand my views of bonding?
15 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoGas or constipation?
I have a week old daughter who recently has become a bit fussy at night. She's breastfed only and swollows a good deal of air when she feeds. I asked the pediatrician about this and she said it was perfectly normal, that as she aged she would gain more control over how much air she took in with food. My question is - sometimes at night she grows fussy. Not screaming or even crying (so I don't believe it's colic.) but she grunts and fails all her limbs wildly. Her stomach doesn't really feel all that hard to me. Anyway, am I right in thinking this is just gas? And are there any suggestions from anyone in a similar situation on how I could improve things for her? Thanks in advance!
8 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoNew mom - Breastfeeding questions...?
Hi there. Just gave birth to a beautiful little girl 5 days ago, and I have a few questions for anyone who can answer them.
First off... I'm just now finding out that certain foods can make your milk taste bad? (At least I'm hearing this from other moms now.) I've heard of the gas problem, but not the taste. I'm having a hard enough time breastfeeding without the thought that my baby may turn down my milk. What food should I stay clear of if this is the case?
My baby also won't fall asleep anywhere but on my nipple. And she's not hungry. At times she's nursed for 3 hours or more and she just sits and chews (unfortunately) until she falls asleep the second I move her. She's sticking her hands in her mouth and screaming. I know she's getting enough because I pump as well. Any words of wisdom here?
I think that's all for now, but I'm sure I'll be back later with more.
14 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoSpraying for ants...?
I live in a small two bedroom apartment. We've had ant problems ever since we've moved in, but I've found with keeping things extra tidy they haven't been a problem. My apartment complex offers to have people come in and spray every Wed. but I'm 40 weeks pregnant. Just recently the ants have discovered our pantry... and needless to say about 100 $ worth of food has just gone to waste. It was horrible. Are thee any safe methods of spraying that I can use around me and my soon to be born baby?
4 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoCloth Diapers and washing...?
I was reading through the care for my cloth diapers that I purchased and read that I shouldn't wash them in Dreft due to the fabric softener already in the detergent.
What detergent should I use? Does it matter?
Thanks!
7 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoLabor soon?
I hate people who ask this question. I know there is no way that any of you could possibly know this. So I guess I'm looking for opinions? Or perhaps this is just something to pass the time quicker.
I've always told myself that my baby was going to be late. She's my first and I figured that I should prepare myself for going past my due date.
I'm 37 weeks now, and visited my doctor yesterday. I'm already at 3 cm dilated and 80% effaced. I also started loosing parts of my mucus plug, but that could just be from the exam. They told me basically all they were looking for now was my water to break or contractions to start. My question is... do you think I'll make it to my due date? Or past it for that matter? They really screwed me up by getting me so excited... and making me feel like she's coming soon.
Thanks for the imput on a question you couldn't possibly know the answer to, but as always I really enjoy hearing other people's experiences.
6 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoHas anyone decided not to give their child the eye drops, Vitamin K shot, and Hepatitis B shots? If so, why?
I've done my research on everything as much as possible. I want to be an active parent and know what's being done to my baby and why. I'm definitely planning on putting these procedures off for at least the first hour after birth, but I'm curious if anyone out there went without them all together. And, of course, the reasoning behind it. Thanks for sharing your experience!
10 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade agoAnyone else measuring small?
As I get closer to my due date I find myself getting anxiety. (I'm 36 weeks along.) I've been measuring small from the start. They've done another scan to make sure that my date wasn't off and that everything was ok with the baby. The dates are right and the baby is fine and the right size. *I'm* just not measuring correctly. (31 at 36 weeks.) I get anxious about my baby's health still. That she won't be healthy when she's born. Anyone else? Any words of comfort? I know worrying about your baby's health isn't good for you or the baby. But everytime I got to the doctor, which is weekly now, I'm reminded. Thanks in advance!
2 AnswersPregnancy1 decade agoPregnancy log book...?
Ok... so I'm getting near the end of my pregnancy. ( First one - possibly last ) And I'm starting to get anxious because I haven't documented anything. I've always been really big on pictures writting down thoughts, ect... but the moment something huge happens to me I lose all interest. So, I've found this absolutely adorable handmade book online. I'm going to buy it and write my own.
In the stores they have these really cute ones with prompts. Questions like, "How did you feel when you first found out you were pregnant?" and so on. I would like to do a book like this, but pick and choose what questions to answer. So... what are some questions/prompts that you wish you had written about during your pregnancy? I'm looking for ideas to get this book going. I may just go to Borders or something and write down all the ones I like from the books, but any further imput is more than welcome! Thanks!
