  • What's the best custom ROM for a Samsung Galaxy S3 SCH-I535?

    Hi everyone!

I'm not a complete Android newbie, but I'm also not clued into the Android scene online, etc. I'm currently running the stock Verizon Android 4.1.2 with baseband I535VRBMF1 with root access and no custom recovery. I have weekly scheduled Titanium backups as well. Verizon's new ML1 baseband is supposedly not so hot and I'm tired of being behind the Android curve (on a perfectly capable phone) and having to work around so many restrictions just to use my phone how I want. Basically, I've decided it's high time to start running a custom ROM and just do away with Verizon aside from their service.

Could anyone tell me which custom ROMs are best for my phone? I'd really like to be running KitKat (unless it runs slower on an S3) if at all possible, and the closer to stock Android, the better. Also, will I have to flash a custom recovery, and, if so, will my phone report an unlocked bootloader? And if I DO need a custom recovery, which one would you recommend? I'm hoping I'll get some suggestions other than what everyone is running, especially for my phone specifically. I'd also appreciate any suggestions as to what Android related sites I should be checking out to make sure I keep myself up to date on these sort of things if you have any.

Thanks for your help in advance!

  • Is it safe to update my Verizon Galaxy S3 if I'm rooted?

I'm already running Android 4.1.2 rooted and want to know if I can safely update through the settings menu. Will I have to unroot and install the stock bootloader before updating? If there's anything I need to do before or after the update so I can stay rooted, I'd really appreciate a link or two. Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Why does my printer convert jobs to grayscale?

I have a Windows Home Server hosting a printer on my home network. Though the server and client computers are sending print jobs in color, the printer will only print them in black and white. The printer, an HP Deskjet 820Cse, has color cartridges installed and has printed color before - there's a setting somewhere on the server that is converting all print jobs to black and white, even if the client and host are set to print in color. What am I missing that will let me print in color again?

  • Will these RAM sets interfere with each other or cause problems?

I recently came into a free Asus A8N-E motherboard and I'm considering swapping it with the one currently in my gaming rig. Problem is I need to buy some new memory, and it has to play nice with the original 2GB the previous owner used.

    Here's the RAM I'm looking to buy (2.6-2.75V, 2.5-3-3-6, Cas 2.5):

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

    And here's what's already installed (2.75V, 2-3-3-6, Cas 2):

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8...

I have a decent amount of experience with computer hardware; I just don't mess around with RAM all the often. I'm also going to play around with overclocking the processor, memory, and video card timings, so I need the system to be really stable at stock state. Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

  • Why can't I use my on-board and external display cards simultaneously?

At work, I'm using an HP Compaq dx2400 Microtower PC. I'm using an Nvidia GeForce 210 as my primary display card to use 2 monitors, however I also want to use the on-board graphics to enable a 3rd display. I've tried setting on-board as my primary display adapter in the BIOS, but this makes the Nvidia card disappear in Device Manager and vice versa. How can I force my system to detect and use both display adapters at the same time? Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Solve {0,0,0} = 736{0,0,-1} + AB{-1,1.5,3} + AC{-1,-2,2} + AD{3,-4,0}?

Bearing in mind that AB, AC and AD are independent variables, not A*B, A*C etc. Your help is really appreciated!

  • Need some help identifying these movies / TV show episodes?

The first thing we need identified is a movie or television show episode where a photographer takes pictures of his little sister eating sugar while she's sleepwalking. He also takes a picture of some part of his girlfriend (seriously not sure what, though - don't assume) that she finds inappropriate. He has these pictures in an art show and his girlfriend gets upset about it.

The next one we need identified is a movie (this one is almost definitely a movie) where someone is in a creepy old house with a lavish decorative style and possibly a huge organ somewhere. There is a really distinct scene in which one of the heroes (can't remember if they're male or female) is hiding in a room when a creepy looking man walks into the room and tears part of his face off. It definitely isn't Poltergeist though. After this, the hero / heroine falls from their hiding place into a pile of bones and corpses or something to that effect. There is also a scene where they're running along a train track and almost get hit by a train.

We're aware these are terrible clues, but any help you can provide would be appreciated. Thanks for your help!

  • Will my motherboard accept this processor?

I have an Asus P5LP-LE (OEM) motherboard which currently uses a Pentium D processor. I am looking to upgrade to a Core 2 Quad 6600 processor, however after installing the new processor, I can't even reach my BIOS after turning the power on. The computer turns on, but I get no display and the system won't respond to the power or reset buttons.

Here's the spec sheet for the MOBO:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docnam...

And here's the processor I'm looking to upgrade to:

    http://ark.intel.com/products/29765?wapkw=core+2+q...

I figured since they use the same socket and run with the same FSB, there shouldn't be anything preventing the two from working together. Also, I'm aware that HP says the MOBO is only compatible with a few processors, but HP Support has made it known that those are the only TESTED processors, and that there's no reason other ones wouldn't work. Typical OEM stuff. I have checked plenty of times that the new processor was installed properly and have swapped the two processors to make sure that the MOBO was still functional, which it is. I also flashed my BIOS, which didn't change my results.

So, what could I be doing wrong? Is there something I overlooked that would stop the new processor from working properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Why will my computer only connect to my wireless N router via wireless G?

So basically I'm trying to connect to my wireless N router at home on a desktop running Windows 7 (which is equipped with a wireless N compatible card). I can connect fine, but my computer only reports that the router is broadcasting via G, and will only connect at 54 Mbps. Even without any other devices connected to the network, I have the same problem. Other computers can connect via wireless N just fine. I tried setting the router to use N only but my desktop could no longer connect to the router at all. My desktop is using a D-Link DWA-552 Xtreme N adapter and my router is a Linksys WRT310N gigabit router. The router is pretty much at factory settings except for some port forwarding for Xbox LIVE and WPA password.

  • How do I move Android apps from my SD card to the internal storage on my phone?

I've looked all over online and all I can find is how to do the opposite. Well I'm a bit crazy and want my apps to stay in the internal memory so I can store my music on my SD card, but there's not enough room for both of them on the card. My phone automatically downloaded all my apps to the card without my permission, though, so I'd like to move all my apps and their data to my internal memory. How can I do it? Thanks for your help!

  • Heat dissipated in a resistor?

OK, so once again, my physics instructor has failed to explain how to solve a problem on the homework, which is due the next day. I just have 3 questions I can't answer based on class notes or information from the book, so help on how to solve the problems would be really appreciated!

    1) A 100.0 ohm and a 150.0 ohm resistor, both rated at 2.00 W, are connected in series across a variable potential difference. What is the greatest this potential difference can be without overheating either resistor?

    2) What is the rate of heat generated in a 100.0 ohm resistor under these conditions?

    3) What is the rate of heat generated in a 150.0 ohm resistor under these conditions?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

  • A basic E&M problem? I could really use some help!?

I just need a little guidance with two homework problems. I think I must be missing some of my notes because I haven't found any formulas regarding these problems. Either that or we haven't covered enough in lectures to figure this one out (it wouldn't be the first time). I'd really appreciate your help!

A parallel-plate air capacitor is made by using two plates 16 cm square, spaced 4.7 mm apart. It is connected to a 12 V battery. What is the electric field between the plates? What is the energy stored in the capacitor?

I've had to convert the cm an mm to meters for all the other questions in this problem, and the dimensions of the square given means it is 16 cm to a side, not that the area is 16 cm squared.

  • E&M homework question?

I'm stuck with a homework assignment that's due before the next lecture but I know for a fact that we haven't covered enough material to handle these problems before it's due! I'd really appreciate some help.

A parallel-plate capacitor has a capacitance of C = 3.40 pF when there is air between the plates. The separation between the plates is 1.10 mm.

    1) What is the maximum magnitude of charge that can be placed on each plate if the electric field in the region between the plates is not to exceed 3.00×10^4 V/m?

    2) A dielectric with a dielectric constant of 2.50 is inserted between the plates of the capacitor, completely filling the volume between the plates. Now what is the maximum magnitude of charge on each plate if the electric field between the plates is not to exceed 3.00×10^4 V/m?

  • Why can't my client PC access my local server through some TCP ports?

I'm running a Windows Home Server (2003 version) in my apartment to share media and back up our computers every week. While I can access the shared media and the WHS connector can find the server and detect network health issues, I cannot use the server console on a client machine, connect to the server via Windows Media Center, or share the connected printer over the network. Windows firewall is disabled on the server (which has no AV to interfere with network traffic) and the router uses the server as a DMZ host, so ports shouldn't be an issue. However, the connector troubleshooter points out that 4 TCP ports are unavailable to communicate, and the server can only be pinged via its IP address and not by its name. What could be getting in the way of the server working properly?

  • How do I combine multiple drive letters into one?

I re-installed a clean copy of Windows onto my HP PC this summer, and the only thing left that's different from its original state is the built-in card reader. It's listed as 4 different drives in Windows Explorer. Originally, the entire card reader was listed as one logical drive. According to the computer, it's a simple USB card reader, so I can't use RAID to combine the drives into one letter as far as I know. How can I get the 4 separate card slots to show up as one letter to my system?

  • Where can I get the missing RAM expansion for my 32x?

I've had my 32x for a while now, but since I don't have the Mega CD attachment, the 32x lacks the extra 4 MB or so of RAM which usually has to be attached to the expansion port on the Genesis / Mega Drive. The console works fine, but a lot of games will show huge drops in frame rate or not distort sprites properly, so naturally I really want to find this extra RAM. I've looked on eBay and Amazon as well as just searching the internet in general, and haven't had any luck. Where else can I look that I could find JUST the extra RAM for my 32x? Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Why won't Windows boot anymore?

I just did a repair installation of Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 on my custom HP desktop and every time the computer turns off, Windows is unable to boot. Not even in safe mode. How is this possible if I had just done a repair installation and what can I do to fix the problem? I need this computer for college soon so it's somewhat urgent! Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Epson Stylus Photo printer just won't print correctly!?

Our Epson printer is entering it's 6th year or so of service and has always been great for us even if it's a little on the slow side. In an effort to save money, we've used re-manufactured ink cartridges almost since we first bought it and they have never caused a problem. Recently, however, the printer always acts as if its print heads are dirty; going through its routine and spitting out blank paper. We need to clean the print heads about twice for each page we want to print, which is just ridiculous and a waste of ink. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue or maybe on using re-manufactured inks? I just aligned the print heads today. Thanks in advance!

  • Onkyo home theater audio receiver no longer plays coaxial audio... how do you fix it?

It's a TX-SR602, maybe 4 or 5 years old. The system works great except our new DVD player only supports coaxial for surround audio. I figured it wasn't a problem until I noticed the system doesn't see the input is connected and therefore won't let me configure it at all. The same problem goes for all the coaxial inputs on the machine. While I'm at it, the subwoofer doesn't seem to work on any of the receiver's modes. It's definitely connected properly but the receiver fails to see it as well. I'm pretty tech-savvy, I just don't know very much about audio systems, so I'd really appreciate the nitty-gritty details as to how to fix it, what settings to use, etc. Thanks in advance!

  • Where can I find an affordable, functioning SEGA Mega CD with all the cables?

I've recently decided I want to start collecting vintage SEGA consoles and so I got a 32X for the Mark 1 Genesis I inherited from an older half-sibling. I'm really satisfied, but naturally, being a serious collector, I got another itch to get another piece to add to my collection. Now I'm looking for a SEGA Mega CD add-on, partially to make up for the fact that I'm missing the 32X RAM expansion, and partially because the concept of CD 32X games is mind-blowing and awesome. My problem is that eBay is full of broken Mega CDs, Mega CDs that still have the Genesis/Mega Drive attached, and Mega CDs that are missing cables. I need absolutely every cable that came in the box since the Mark 1 Genesis needs a commonly lost splitter cable to get stereo sound. I have also checked Amazon and their Mega CDs are at $130 and up. Not reasonable for someone with no allowance and no regular source of income. If possible, I'd love to get a the Mega CD Mark 1, but I'll gladly shop anywhere with the Mark 2 as well. I know that flea markets are usually the best places to look, but I have none near me at all, and we know garage sales are hotbeds for creepy people. I would love it if all you awesome SEGA fans could point me to your favorite shopping locations / sites. If you're selling, I'm buying too! Plus, I'd love a little insight as to which Mega CD version you'd recommend if you have any for me. Rock on, SEGA bros :)
