  • How was Mike Dean picked to referee the Chelsea game?

It was known that a Chelsea draw or loss would effectively hand Liverpool the title. Mike Dean is a known Liverpool fan.

First, he was born less than 10 miles from the centre of Liverpool.

Second, he has never refereed a Liverpool match, now in his 14th year of refereeing Premier League

football. This means that either he has told the FA, or the FA simply suspect his support.

Third, and this is a quote from Wikipedia (don't tell me it's not reliable, I know you all use it), "Dean was originally appointed to referee the 2006 FA Cup final at the Millennium Stadium on 13 May 2006 but the Football Association later replaced him with Alan Wiley after concerns were raised about Dean's ability to be impartial towards Liverpool, who are based near his hometown in Wirral."

  • Is Chris Foy biased against Chelsea?

Here are some facts that I found:

    Foy V Chelsea:

    Games: 32

Chelsea wins: 22 (2 on penalties)

    Draws: 5

    Chelsea losses: 5

Chelsea reds: 8 (6 of these came in his last 8 Chelsea games)

    Opposition reds: 0

Premier league red card average: Approximately 1 every 12.5 games (stats from 2005-2010)

Chris Foy red card average for competitions Chelsea participate in: 1 every 7.6 games

Chris Foy red card average total: 1 every 6.6 games

Chris Foy v Chelsea red card average: 1 every 4 games

Chris Foy v Chelsea last 8 games red card average: 1 every 1.333 games

Chelsea Premier League red card average: 1 every 11.4 games (stats from 2007-2013)

    Incidents:

Ridiculous red card for Maniche v West Ham

Robben sent off for celebrating with fans v Sunderland

3-0 loss to Sunderland (no controversy, but surely no coincidence, either, that our worst ever defeat in the Abramovich era came with him refereeing)

Two wrong sending offs v QPR

Hazard red card for ‘kicking’ ball boy

    Agüero stamp on Luiz ignored

Two penalty shouts ignored in FA Cup semi-final v Manchester City, including Touré practically removing Torres’ shirt in the box

    Today v Villa

  • Should referees be made to be more accurate when giving the amount of injury time?

For a very long time I have been sure that referees are not giving the correct amount of injury time in games. Today, I decided to prove it. I used the second half of the Swansea v Chelsea match.

Using a stop watch, I timed that 15 minutes, 34.3 seconds of extra time should have been given, but only 6 minutes were given.

Also, the referee blew his whistle only four seconds 'late', when another minute and 32.7 seconds had been wasted.

Also, this is probably an underestimate, as I was sometimes slow to react when a ball went out of play.
