Traveling to Europe with a disability?
Ok quick question I'm a cancer patient who uses an electric wheel chair, I have one that folds that's made for traveling but I'm wondering about charging it up overseas. I'm wanting to travel to England (London Mostly) then spend a day or 2 in Paris and about a week in southern germany, so any hints on how to set it up would be appreciated. For general info I have a foster son who would travel with me to act as pack mule and in case I have a problem. Also wondering if you can get American prescriptions refilled overseas in an emergency. I plan on taking enough for over 2 weeks but wondering if I could replace them if they were lost or stolen

For the last 20+ years I have been taking care of my disabled mother. For a long time it was no problem but the last couple of years she doesn't want to leave the house and because of her condition she can't be left alone. I have 2 older brothers but neither of them get along with mother. As far as hiring someone to come in most of the places I've checked are really expensive for 24hr care. I'd like to be able to take a few days off once in a while but have no idea how to go about setting it up, so any help would be appreciated
2 AnswersFamily1 decade agoWhy does my mom take me for granted?
Ok I have kind of an unusual problem. For the last 10 years I've been sole caregiver for my disabled mother. The last few months have been the worse, she got bad skin problems on her lower legs and ankles that had to be medicated and bandaged twice a day. Did it no complaints along with all the shopping and running errands. Then almost a month ago she pulled a tendon in her right hip and has been pretty much bed-fast till today. So on top of running after her every 10/15 minutes I had to do extra laundry and take care of her dogs for her. But after everything extra I've done did I hear a thank you???? no she bitched me out for washing a black shirt in with the colored clothes and I didn't load the dishwasher like she does, plus anything else that didn't suit her, her excuse for not thanking me was that she gave me 10 bucks to get my hair cut with!!! She has always been a gripe anyways but it5 just bugs me that I've done everything for her and never gotten any credit for it, she says that since she pays for the groceries that that's my payment for all I do for her, she never says anything about the 500 bucks a month i give her for my living expenses. I've got cancer of the pancreas and liver so all I get as far as an income is that 500 a month from social security disability, While she gets a damned good income off of a large inheritance she got several years ago so in theory she could hire someone to clean house and a lot of other stuff rather than have me do it but the few housekeepers we have tried never did things to suit her, she is one of those people that thinks her way is the only way to do things. I tod her that I lived on my own for 17 years before moving in to take care of her so if I do things different than the way she does it it's ok as long as it gets done why gripe about it why not be thankful it got done for her? Her reply is always I just want things done right ie her way and I'm getting tired of it. I know I can't change her but how can I get her to lighten up a little neither one of us has aloof time left she's 88 and with my cancer the way it is I got maybe 5-10 years or less and I'd like some gratitude before one of us bites the dust. Sorry this was so long but had to get it off my chest you know?
3 AnswersFamily1 decade agoAre Halloween decorations offensive?
I have Always decorated for halloween, thanksgiving an Christmas, well I moved to a new town over the summer and this area is Ultra religious and ultra conservative. I put up my standard decorations, skeletons tombstones inflatables etc nothing gory or overly scary. In the last week I have had 4 different groups from area churches outside my house yelling that I worship the devil and all types of stuff. I tried to explain that they are just decorations and that I will also be doing thanksgiving and Christmas's but they are still bothering me I have called the cops but they said as long as they stay on the street and don't come on my property there isn't anything I can do, I'm afraid to leave my house because they could tear my stuff up. Has anyone else had this problem or seen anyone else have it?

There is jut 3 of us myself and 2 older brothers in their 60's. A few years ago I came into quite a bit of money which I invested and live off of the interest. One of the first things I did when I got my money was I took both my brothers and their families on a 2 week cruise to Hawaii all expenses paid which they never thanked me for. So this year I decided to buy myself a new car for my 50th birthday. I bought a BMW 650 convertible my old car had over 100,000 miles on it. but now my brothers are saying that I should buy them new cars as well. I've Always sent them money for birthdays Christmas etc and half the time they don't even send me a card. So what should I say if they mention me buying them a new car? i'd hate to hear what they would say if I bought a new house or something.
4 AnswersFamily1 decade agoWhat makes a Human? Scientist are considering reclassifying Chimpanzees as pre human do they qualify?
Recently scientist have mentioned that since Chimpanzee's share 99% of our DNA along with other factors they should be reclassified as Pre-Human instead of apes. Since the basic definition of human is the use of tools, having a strict social order and the passing of traditions from one generation to the next. Chimpanzees use tools such as sticks and rocks to gather food, which they teach to their young and they have a very tight social order technically they should be classified as human. IN your opinion what makes a human a human?
11 AnswersAnthropology1 decade agoHow do I keep my mom from complaining about money?
Hey I have a problem I can use some input on. I am the sole caregiver for my mom who is disabled, basically I do everything for her from cooking to giving her a bath. We get along alright except for one thing Money!. We are not financially hard up by any ones definition I make about a thousand dollars a month doing custom woodworking and she has a good income from investments. She does all her SHOPPING via catalog and home shopping channels and gets whatever she wants. But if I spend any money at all even as much as buying a DVD or something she gives me a hard time about it saying I don't know how to manage money etc and she thinks that she buys the stuff I use for my woodworking even though I buy it out of a separate account and have shown her countless times where I have paid for it my self. I've tried to let her know it's not realistic or normal to expect me to go without the things I Want since I can't go to the movies or anything due to staying around for her. I have even given up on even thinking about dating because of the way she acts about money. So all I get to do is sit at home and take care of her. She says I shouldn't have to buy movies because we have cable tv and the same goes for computer or video games I should just watch and play the same ones over and over again forever. Clothes are another one of the things that gets her going I buy new clothes maybe once or twice a year and she thinks I can wear the same things forever even if I loose or gain weight. Help me figure out what to do I'm about to give up and let her go to a nursing home ( which I really don't want to do)
4 AnswersFamily1 decade agoWhat should I answer when asked about dating?
OK this may sound strange but I've never been very interested in dating, socializing etc. I've had a couple of different girlfriends over the years but nothing serious. I don't enjoy going out to bars or anything like that, I'm perfectly happy staying at home reading, watching tv or doing my woodworking. I have a few Friends but no love life nor do I want one. Am I the only person like this or are there other homebodies out there too?
1 AnswerSingles & Dating1 decade agoDoes the house have to be sold?
ok here is the deal a Friend of mine has lived in this house or 8 years taking care of his disabled mother she wants the house to be sold and the money split 3 ways after her death but the son that lives with her would have to take his share and buy another house some of us think the house should be left to him or at least sold to him for a very small amount that way he wouldn't have to physically move. Could they do that legally or will the house have to be sold cause it's in the mothers will? BTW he is 50 she is 88
4 AnswersRenting & Real Estate1 decade agoWho should pay for a 50th birthday party?
a friend of mine is turning 50 next week but he is planning a party this saturday. He is disabled and living on less than 600 bucks a month. His mother is very well of financially but she will not pay for anything for him even though he takes care of everything for her. If he asks her to get him some stuff from the store like razor blades etc she keeps track of every little thing and then charges him for it at the end of the month even though he fixes things at her house and makes sure she has plenty to eat and helps her take a bath (she can't walk) she is obsessed with money to the point it scary. I think she should be the one to pay for his party but he says if he ;eaves it up to her there wouldn't be a party cause she can't afford to give him one. He has terminal cancer BTW so we weren't sure he was going to make it to 50.
So who should pay him or her?
5 AnswersFamily1 decade agoAny sugestions on the new car?
OK here is the dilemma or question, I am trying to decide what type of car to buy this year, I have about 50 grand available so I'm wanting something special. The right side of my brain is saying buy a new car (High Performance Cadillac,Camaro,Charger etc) or take the same amount of money and buy a Muscle Car or Hot rod ie 32 Ford Coupe or 68/69 GTO something along those lines I would prefer a convertible but since there are so many choices just wanting some ideas
5 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation1 decade agoAre the new Camaro Convertibles going to have a 500 HP enigine as an option?
I'm looking to buy a new car either this summer of next fall. I like the new Camaro Convertible but we don't have a dealer close by, can you get one with the 500 horsepower engine GM makes? I know the Cadillac has a 500 as an option but they don't come in a convertible. If it's not offered as a dealer option about what would it run to have an engine built for the 2009/2010 Camaro?

4 AnswersBirds1 decade agoAre all Shi-Tzu's Stubborn?
Hi we have a question about Shi-Tzu's, this is our 2nd one and while they were both leash and potty trained easily after about 1 year of age whenever we call the dogs or ask them something it looks for all the world like they're thinking over whatever we have said like they are trying to decide if they want to do it. It's really only a problem when we want them to come to us when called they sit and think about it for a while before finally coming to us is this normal behavior for the breed? Our lab and poodles don't have this problem so whats the deal?

5 AnswersEntertaining1 decade agoHow do we deal with my brothers?
Okwe are having a bit of a dilema here.My mother is going to be turning 88 this year and so far she has lived longer than anyone in her family. She has some health problems and has been disabled since 1998. My father passed away in 1987 after a long battle with cancer. Since I was the youngest and wasn't married I moved in with my folks after I got out of service and have helped with upkeep and everything on the house and yard and after my dad pawy I made my mom get out and about instead of just staring at four walls all day. Due to severe oseoatheritis in her kness and legs she has been confined to a wheelchair for almost ten years but I put a lift on my van and on my fifthweheell trailer so she could still go with me differant places.A couple ofyears go I was diagnosed with cancer of the Pancreas and Liver and had to take social security disability. Now here is the problem my Mom has a living trust that is set up for the three boys to get the interest of of until we are gone then it goes to the grand children. My mother has decided that since I've stayed with her and taken care of her that I should get a little more out of the estate basically I'd draw 1,000 a month until I die. We know at least one of my brothers is going to pitch a fit over this but he is able to work and has a wife and kids of his own to look aafter him where I don't so do we tell them now or wait till after mother isone to let the cat out of the bag. They will each get a portion of the sale of this house all her personal items and 3 vehicles as well as 100 grand each, so the only thing affected by her decision is the living trust they will get the interst of thir portion where I'll have a minimum amount comming each month.
So dowe tell them or wait?
5 AnswersFamily1 decade agoWhat tools are recomended for a home woodshop?
Hi all I just moved into a new house and for the first time I have enough space to make a home wood shop. I want to mainly make clocks and some furniture. I had a small shop before this but could only do smaller projects the area I have now is a 3 car garage about 30 feet wide by fifteen feet long with 9 foot ceilings. It is heated and air conditioned with a cement floor. As far as tools I have a table saw a potable router table a small drill press and a sanding machine with both a belt and disk sander. I also have a small wheel grinder and a sharpening grinder (the water type) I ordered a Carve wright woodcarving machine that should be here thursday but wondering what other tools i should have? things like lathes, planers etc I have all kinds of hand tools and clamps. Also wondering if I should cover my floor with either a rubberized coating or something to cut down on fatigue? Any thought would be appreciated/ Oh as far as a budget goes I have about 7 thousand in my tool fund but would like to get good equipment I'm thinking either DeWalt or Grizzly I have a Grizzly store not to far from me.
8 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoCan you use an external hard drive on a Sony HD Camcorder?
Hi I recently purchased a Sony HD Camcorder at a local store closing. Due to an error on my part I purchased one that does not have a hard drive as I truly wanted but one that takes DV tapes instead.Since the store is closing they have a no return or exchange policy so I'm wondering if I can't just get a small external Hard drive to store my movies on? I bought the camera to use on a trip to Alaska this summer and don't want to have to take a bunch of tapes with me. So I thought if I could just transfer my movies to the hard drive each night I could get by with only taking one or two. Any help would be appreciated. I've also considered "returning" the camera to a different store saying it was a gift and getting a camera with a hard drive built in but that's not strictly ethical so probably wont do that.
