I post mostly in R&S. I live in Texas and have a teenaged daughter. I have an embarrassing amount of education, with grad degrees in religious studies and psychology (seeing them both as forms of human spirituality). My own spiritual outlook is "postmodern" in its appreciation of parallels across traditions ... especially contemplative traditions ... and in being focused on how their practices work, rather than on dogmatic conceits. Put another way, I feel if you take religious language literally, you are not taking it seriously. I've had a serious* meditation practice for 30 years, with a couple dozen intensive week-long retreats (especially in Buddhist facilities, particularly Zen). I work in a university. I'm also a therapist and a non-denominational, "postmodern Buddhist" minister. *Wavy Gravy is one of my heroes. He says if you use the word "serious," you should wear a pair of Groucho Marx glasses for the next hour. I'll go put mine on now.
