  • msi ms 7186 motherboard, cpu support list , what cpu and ram can I use?

Have an old computer that is still working and wish to upgrade the cpu and ram. The only problem is lack of info on the motherboard . Yes, I have checked the maker sites for the computer and the motherboard . I also can't seem to find Bios updates either.

Have searched a fair bit This is what I've found .

    Intel Celeron D 346 3.06GHz / 256KB Cache / 533MHz FSB / Socket 775

MOTHERBOARD MSI MS 7186 VER :1.0

Memory DDR2 SDRAM PC2-4200 DIMM ( have found some support lists and say it will support up to 240pin DDR2-533 PC2-4200 DDR2-SDRAM DIMM

    240pin DDR2-667 PC2-5300 DDR2-SDRAM DIMM

    240pin DDR2-800 PC2-6400 DDR2-SDRAM DIMM

    Maximum up to 4 gb

    Intel 945G chipset

Im not sure about the maximum FSB. Its using 533mhz. Looking at the 945G chipset

and the 775 socket I thought the motherboard would have a faster FSB than 533mhz and

be capable of taking faster ram and stronger cpu.

    Any suggestions ?

  • Gamer tower, Why so many optical drive bay ? When will someone design a real gamers case?

I'm looking at changing around my old PC case . From other answers Ive got only one DVD drive is needed for a gaming rig .

Seriously, Raid configurations, more fans for cooling, larger graphics cards and larger PSU's , water cooling and massive cpu heat sinks .

So , why do PC cases that are for gaming need to have up to five 5.25 drive bays ?

Seems like overkill if you ask me when what is needed are cases with better airflow that are smaller, lighter and most of all less expensive.

  • how many optical drive bays for gaming?

Im rebuilding my desk top case (that's right!!) I be rebuilding the case so it will take a graphics card that's 270mm long . The thing is I'll have to remove space for one optical drive bay (has three) . It's an old non ATX case and will be replacing the mobo plate and back panels to fit an ATX mobo and

will need to make room for 700 watt power supply and four 200 mm fans.

So I was wondering to suit the needs for gaming how many optical bays would I need while I was a playing a game, I figured as a bare minimum one (DVD) or two DVDs . Please remember It's for gaming only and nothing else. Some games you play need a DVD drive while playing and others dont.

How many do you think you would prefer or recommend for a bare minimum gamer tower.

  • Are employers, parents and higher education institutions going too far?

Gaining entry into universities and the pressure for students to excel.

Parents that constantly push or even bribe their kids to gain higher marks. Students around the world studying up to fourteen or sixteen hours a day.I have seen and heard of low academic levels and understand the need for better standards of education.

I also understand the need for a well educated workforce and the need for people who are intellectually capable so business remains competitive but is the bar being raised a little too high?

  • Something I started writing for fun. What do you think?

      Invisus.

Slowly the sun’s misty incandescence falling among the tall spruce in the great woodland glade retreated.

A pitch shadow crept forward stealthily into Amone’s ancient forest.

Birds fell silent. Twilight’s still overpowering except for the barely audible chorus of frogs gradually rising to challenge it.

Still slightly dim Invisus sensed the coming of night and awoke.

Troubling dreams the subject of recent occurances had left him

short tempered and ill at ease.

Tonight he must search for any markings of it’s passing.

Good or not, he must know what it is that had made things so.

This night all he could feel was apprehension.

He had not returned to his home for two nights and had slept on beds of pine needles. He missed his cosy rock at the base of the mountains over looking the green black loch.

He now camped on the edge of a large outcrop of rocks close

enough to a thick line of spruce which he hid behind during the night.

The view from this point covered the whole of the forest.

    Invisus knew the forest intimately.

All it’s animals, trees and plants.

A knowledge gained over ages of curious observation.

He had forgotten how long he had been there and only

the widest and tallest of oaks could remember first his

    coming to the forest.

Until this day he knew all of what went on in his wooded land

    and the reason of it.

What had effected his home so as of late vexed him totally.

From his vantage on the top of the outcrop his violet blue eyes

traversed the forest searching for any signs.

Seeing nothing, he at last started loping in long rythmic strides

down to his home at the edge of the loch.

Then all his senses told him. He halted lead footed, acutely

    aware of a terrible omnipresence.

Off the loch brought an awful wet rotting odour came to him.

His insides turning, gasping and then regaining air in his chest again, a quick paced thudding catching in his long fine ears.

It was a thing distant but moving round him, arcing to his right.

Just as he gathered up his witts they were sent scattered with a wreaking note permeating the forest.

A screaming shrill cry almost split him haft.

A note carrying a message of absolute miserable horror.

He could no longer sense it’s place.

The putrid odour fell on him again.

Instantly he shivered and was sent sprawling on the ground.

Dragging himself up on to one elbow he saw that it stood over him.

    An unreal voice addressed him.

One long gutterall shrill word, “Mine!”.

Invisus could barely form the thought in his head.

    “What is yours ?”

Lightning enveloped him and his surroundings, merging

and disappearing into a single blinding light.

He awoke drained, weak and almost senseless.

    Warm sunlight bathed him.

Invisus adjusted his eyes to the light and he was dumbstruck.

    Ashes. Grey scorched tree stumps.

The forest floor was now black and grey crumbling under the pressure of his hand.

He lastly stood covered in ash like a bizarre grey statue.

As he looked on what had once been his forest tears fell

uncovering two diagonal lines of pink skin on a lean harrowed face.

Then the lines stood out red and he started to shake with

    total and uncontrollable rage.
