  • Coast to Coast by Greyhound?

So, this summer I'll be traveling from D.C to L.A for work. It's a couple hundred bucks cheaper to go by bus, and I'm more or less broke so I'm going to take a Greyhound. I have travelled by Greyhound in the past and I know that it's shitty. I'd love to take a plane or a train, but I just don't have the cash.

What exactly should I prepare myself for? I know it's going to be awful and boring, but I was wondering if anyone had an tips or insights beyond just telling me that it's going to suck. How should do transfers work? When should I try to sleep? Should I bring booze? What should I worry most about?

Any tips or general comments are appreciated.

  • Should I join the Military (Specifically the Marines)?

I am a high school Junior. I have the grades to get into a competitive 4 year university. I am, 99% certain that I will be going to college at some point. I also however want to serve my country and would like to serve in the Military. I know that the Military pays for college, but I am ignoring that and focusing only on what is the best choice for me and ignoring monetary factors. I visited my Marine recruiter and talked with him for a few hours. I scored an 82 on the ASVAB, and he told me that he could get me into any MOS I wanted. I am interested in joining the Marines because it's the hardest. I have several factors holding me back. One: My family is very liberal and anti-war, I am afraid they will shun me for serving, silly though it is. All of my friends are also liberal and would probably feel the same way. Two: I am going to college, and probably to graduate school. Will being older than my classmates set me apart in any major way? Three: Will it be harder to get into a four year college having served for four years after high school? What colleges are veteran friendly?

Basically I want to serve my country, but I afraid it will set me back after I leave the service.
