Personal web page or blog?
I am thinking of starting a personal web page to publish thoughts, opinions, short articles, images, links, etc. In the old days of the internet, people had "home pages", like say geocities.com. Or, they hosted web pages on their ISP's web servers. Then came blogs and people started using the blog services.
So which is better? What are the pros and cons of each, a traditional web page where the author has to produce the HTML, or using a blogging service? If you were to start a personal page, which would you use and why?
2 AnswersYahoo Profiles7 years agoCan I use a Windows 7 Enterprise license at home?
I have a spare, unused Windows 7 Enterprise license. I would like to install this Win 7 on a computer. Would it be possible to use this license at home on a stand-alone computer? If I would need something special to make use of this license, what would it be? Thanks.
1 AnswerSoftware7 years agoMad Men plots are negative?
I have watched Mad Men up through Season 6. Having watched it, I found the episodes are generally very negative, somewhat depressing. Most eps. have bad or negative things happening to the characters, or the characters are making bad decisions or causing bad situations. Why have the writers created the show in this way? What are they trying to show? I realize some of the negativity portrays the time period: drinking, smoking, sexism, etc. Some examples of the sort of negativity I notice: frequent affairs, infidelity, divorce, Lane's suicide, fighting, screwed up business deals, man gets his foot cut of with lawnmower for no apparent reason, Don's elderly secretary dies at her desk. I feel the show is just formulaic, not unlike "The Office". Always seeing people suffer and screw up. Comments?
I am thinking of where this show would have to go to continue. How much more depraved?: Don starts a serious heroin addiction. Joan becomes a full time prostitute. Peggy turns butch lesbian. Betty eats herself to death. Sally runs away and becomes a homeless street kid. Some murders, maybe an office shooting spree.
1 AnswerDrama7 years agoWhen will 10 Gbit Ethernet become common and affordable?
When will 10 Gigabit Ethernet become common and affordable? By common, I mean, it should be possible to buy NICs and switches at local retailers. By affordable, I mean in the $20-40 dollar range for a single port NIC. Similar to the situation with 1000 Mbit ethernet. Last I looked, 1 Gb ethernet is like $10-20 for a NIC and 10 Gb is $400+ for a NIC. So, when will 10 Gb be as cheap and common as 1 Gb ? What will have to happen? What is your reasoning or sources? Thanks!
Computer Networking8 years agoWhy are all PC computer cases black colored?
That's my question: Why are almost all PC computer cases black colored? The standard PC case color used to be beige/gray. Then somehow sometime it went to black. When?
Newegg, for example, lists 553 cases available. Of which, 412 are black. Next, is 58 2-tone cases, most of which have black as the majority color. Then 43 white cases. Followed by a small handful of other colors.
Dell, Lenovo, HP, etc are mostly black.
Apple makes most of their computers white. Maybe to be the Anti-PC? Do you think?
Where's all the real color? Red, blue, orange, yellow, green, teal, indigo? What happened to SGI?
I feel like Henry Ford runs the PC computer industry: "You can have a computer in any color you like, as long as its black".
So, why? Why this tyranny of black PC computer cases? Why all black? Thanks.
7 AnswersDesktops8 years agoWhich consumer-level AMD motherboard supports ECC memory?
Consumer-level AMD processors, such as Phenom 2, have built-in memory controllers with ECC support. Are there any AM2/AM3/AM3+ motherboards that support ECC memory? That is, do they actually make use of the extra memory chips on an ECC stick? Could you list some model numbers? Thanks!
3 AnswersDesktops8 years agoCan I connect a transformer backwards?
Hello. I have standard US, 120v 60hz, 15Amp AC power. I would like to test some small appliances that require 240V AC. I was thinking of getting a transformer to convert 120V to 240V. One model I found is HS1F1BS. This is a 1kva, 2:1 step DOWN transformer (240->120). It doesn't say in the spec sheet if this model can be used in the reverse: input to secondary, output from primary.
So, do you think it would be safe to connect this transformer in the reverse, to make it a step UP transformer? Is there any danger or risk of burning out the transformer? Here is a link to the spec sheet. Thanks.
