  • Would you help me find a very specific type of audition song?

I'm auditioning for 1940s Radio Hour in about a month, and the audition requires a specific type of song to audition with. The show itself is filled with fun 40s-era songs and jingles. In the audition notice, it states that I will need to prepare 16 bars of "a swing- or jazz-era standard". While obviously there is no shortage of jazz and swing standards, my usual audition song resource isn't much help.

I'm looking for something that's not TOO well-known, has sheet music that isn't impossible to get, and is able to be effective despite me singing only 16 bars. I'm also a little stuck with whether to go with a jazz-era or swing-era song. Anyone have any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Vegetarians or friends of vegetarians - what do you serve at a party?

My husband and I are planning to throw a joint thank you for all our friends who helped us move/come see our new house party. Several friends are vegetarians (not vegans - they eat dairy products and fish) and I want to give them something to eat besides veggies and dip, but my mind is blank.

Vegetarians, what is your "wish list" for foods at parties (your food, not other peoples ;)?

Anyone else, any ideas of what I can serve? Like I said, it's a thank you party, so I don't want to serve boring food.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

  • Is 24 too old to be wearing a Harry Potter t-shirt to the film and to pick up my book?

So I am an adult who loves Harry Potter, but would it look stupid if I wore a Harry Potter t-shirt?

It doesn't have Harry's face or anything on it. It is a black t-shirt that says "I solemnly swear that I am up to no good" on the front and "Mischief managed" on the back. If you haven't read the books, it probably doesn't make sense.

    Am I too old?

  • What is the best way to hang an oversized, unframed print so that it doesn't look like a poster?

We are purchasing an oversized print and will frame it eventually (it is humongous and would probably cost between $150-$200 to frame). Any ideas on how we can hang it in the meantime without thumbtacks so that it looks nice? Thanks in advance!

  • Is it true Paris Hilton has been released from prision?

That's what TMZ is reporting... though oddly enough no one else is reporting it as of yet.

    Anyone know?

  • If you need help with homework...?

    ...please hire a tutor!

Seriously, it's one thing to read a play, have trouble understanding it and seek the advice of more knowledgable people, and it's another to ask a question so that you don't have to do your work!

AT LEAST go to wikipedia or sparknotes if you are lazy!

  • What is your favorite pre-1970 musical?

I've noticed a lot of "Wicked," "RENT," "Spring Awakening" and other "modern" musicals on these boards... but what about the rich history of musical theatre? What "older" musicals do you enjoy, and what is your favorite?

I prescribe to the Sondheim-ism that there is "Porgy and Bess," and then there is everything else. "Fiddler on the Roof" is also very good. "On the Town" always affects me. And don't even get me started on "Carousel", "Meet Me in St. Louis" and "1776."

    What about you?
