My two year old female budgie got a new friend in May after the death of her original flock mate. The first budgie was also a girl but they didn't get on very well so we decided to go with a boy this time.

He was only just 12 weeks at the time and she seem to mother him until the end of June when all of a sudden she decided he was interesting in other ways. Anyhow she started laying eggs in July so we got her a nesting box. They never mated and we have checked; the eggs are definitely not fertile. It's been almost three weeks since she laid the first egg in the box and she is showing no sign of losing interest in them yet. How much longer before she realises they are duds and abandons them?
