  • shared files over the network: can i find out what was accessed and who accessed them?

ok, i didn't know that my personal files were shared over the network. today i noticed my computer was running a little slow and the HD light was running for reasons i was unaware of. so before i restarted the pc, it gave me the message that "a user was logged on to this computer, are you sure you want to restart?" so i'm afraid that some of my files were downloaded.

so how can i find who this user was and exactly what was downloaded from my computer? this is a home network so i'll know who did it.

  • how can i return a defective motherboard to a store past the return period and avoid restocking fees?

i bought a motherboard worth about 200 dollars. i open it for the first time after the return period (my fault) to find out that it was definitely used (finger prints, stickiness, wipe residue, marks around the heatsink screw holes, etc).

i'm not sure if it's defective, but there's no way i'd want to risk my Q6600 and other expensive components to test it out. i can exchange it for a new one under the condition that i pay a 15% restocking fee. but why the **** would i pay them 30 dollars to get a brand new motherboard i shouldve had in the first place?

my plan is to get a friend to buy the exact motherboard in cash so he could give me the new one. a day later, i'll have my friend return the ****** up motherboard and get my money back. my question is: do you think this will work? what are the potential problems? you think they'll look at the board quickly and give my friend the money back without any issues?

  • how many CFMs should my 120mm fans be rated on my computer case in order to it be pretty cool?

I have a Coolermaster 690 Case (http://www.coolermaster.com/products/product.php?a... It can handle 7 120mm and 1 80x15mm fans. I plan to get all 8 fans, as heat will be an issue when overclocking my C2D Q6600.

However, noise is also an issue. Therefore, I'd like to get fans with the lowest dBA but highest CFM possible. So far, I found the Enermax Magnetic Barometric 120's (UC-12EB) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8... rated at 17dBA/44 CFM.

Would 7 of these fans be enough to cool my case and at the same time be pretty silent? Or is 44 CFM too low for cooling? Or should I just get 78 CFMs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N8... and suck up the the noise.

    Thanks everyone, and happy holidays!

  • What exactly do I have with this "700w" power supply that has multi 12V rails? Is it enough for my system?

I recently bought a PSU from Newegg: The Thermaltake W0106RU 700w modular power supply. It has 4x12v rails (combined loading of 56A), but I'm sure this doesn't mean I have 672 watts available, so I'm confused. And even if I did, how many amps could I load on each rail? For some odd reason, Thermaltake says that each 12v rail is capable of 18A, so that would mean there are (18x4x12) 864 watts available.

Help me out here--WHAT DO I HAVE?!

Also, I just hope it's enough to power the following:

    Abit ip35 pro motherboard

Q6600 G0 (want to OC to at least 3.2ghz at ??? volts)

    4x1GB DDR2 800

    Geforce 8800 Ultra

    4 sata Hard Drives

    1 DVD-RW/DVD+RW Drive

    CD-RW Drive

Sound Blaster PCI, HD TV Tuner PCI, another PCI card

    2 USB Devices

    Fan Controller

    Front Bay Card Reader

    Front Bay LCD Display

7x120mm + 1x80mm LED fans (using coolermaster CM 690 case!)

And by the way, is it possible to control what rail powers what? For example, I want 12v1 to power CPU only, 12v2 to power fans, 12v3 to power hard

  • Why does my car battery not charge after a jumpstart?

I was having problems starting the SUV (1993 Nissan Pathfinder) with an old battery. So I replaced the battery with a used, but fully charged battery (checked with a voltmeter). With this battery, the car was fully functional for a day of driving and turning on/off. The next day, the battery was completely discharged--no clock, no nothing--and the voltmeter reading was 0.4--dead.

So I jump started the car. Immediately afterwards it died when I put the car on drive (I wanted to move it). I jump started the car a 2nd time, left everything alone, and let it run for an hour. I came back afterwards, and opening the door turned off the engine. I checked the battery and it managed to charge to about 2 on the voltmeter.

What is going on?! I appreciate your help in advance--and happy holidays!

  • My PSU is showing the following voltage values... Does everything look ok?

My PSU is showing the following voltage values:

    CPU core: 1.31-1.33V

    +2.5V: 1.14-1.15V

    +3.3V: 3.28-3.30V

    +5V: 5.03-5.05V

    +12V: 11.84V

    +5V Standby: 5.03V

    VBAT Battery:3.04V

Does everything look ok? My concern are the values for the +2.5V +12V voltages since they seem pretty low. Is this a bad thing? Is my PSU dying? And would it be ok to use the 400w PSU shown here? http://ultraproducts.com/product_details.php?cPath...

  • I have a Brother all in one MFC-7820N. What are the limits of it's auto document feeder (ADF)?

I want the scanner to automatically scan stacks of photos using it's ADF. However, I'm afraid that only regular paper should be put in the ADF because photos might burn color onto the ADF thereby damaging it; or even worse, the ADF might damage the photo itself because the photo is too thick.

In other words, can I put photos in the ADF?

  • Dual Channel Memory OK with different sticks?

Initially I had a 1GB DDR400 stick of ram on my system. After installing another 1GB DDR400 stick, CPU-z reports my ram running at 157.8MHz. Anyone have a clue what's going on?

EDIT: Removing the new stick brings back my RAM speed back to 200MHz.

EDIT2: In addition, setting up both sticks to run in dual channel also mode brings the RAM speed back to 200Mhz. They are different 1GB DDR400 sticks: 1 @ 3-3-3-8 (Crucial); the other at 3-4-4-8 (brand unknown)-- is it okay to run them on dual channel?

  • how to manage a website with 50+ pages?

I have a website that's growing like crazy. Each time I make a link on one page I have to update the links on the other 50+ pages. Or to keep consistent with theme of my site, I have to update all the pages after a change to one page.

Is there an easier way to this with some kind of program? (i do not and will not use frames).

    Thanks!
