  • not waving but drowning poem. 2 questions. 10 points?

Nobody heard him, the dead man,

    But still he lay moaning:

I was much further out than you thought

    And not waving but drowning.

Poor chap, he always loved larking*

    And now he's dead

It must have been too cold for him his heart gave way,

    They said.

Oh, no no no, it was too cold always

(Still the dead one lay moaning)

I was much too far out all my life

    And not waving but drowning.

    1. What kinds of distress signals in ordinary life might be interpreted as “waving”?

2.Two of the most obvious characteristics in this poem are “Rebellion against authority,” and “Involvement with the lonely and melancholic, especially in contemplation of eventual death.” Pick ONE of these and explain how it is seen in this poem. Be sure to use at least one quotation.

  • do not go gentle into that good night poem. 2 questions. 10 points?

Do not go gentle into that good night,

    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,

Because their words had forked no lightning they

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright

Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,

And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight

Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on that sad height,

Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.

Do not go gentle into that good night.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

    1. When the speaker advises the men to “rage” against the “dying of the light,” what does he want them to do?

  • caught my boyfriend texting another girl. 10 points?

Ok im going to try to keep it sweet and short. we have been dating for a year an half. We both have always been against either of us talking to the other sex. We both have been eachothers bestfriend and have been so close. We had a perfect relationship and then it started going down hill. He lost his job and we started fighting a lot. We started both trying to get out of the rough patch. Well just like a week ago, we had this really bad fight and was yelling at eachother and he said hes been talking to a girl. Well he just got this job and I was really weird and worried about it thinking he might starting talking to another girl, might meet someone. And he knew I was. Well when we was fighting he said he started talking to this girll. I get upset when he says that and I get out of the car and start walking well he chases me and starts saying he was talking to this girl about us and advice and that her boyfriend works there to and that they have 2 kids. Well we make up and I drop it. Well couple days after that I go out to the car to get his mom to get a number and when I look at his phone there was a text from a girl. I read the convo and im crushed. He was texting another girl. most of the texts were deleted. But the last convo was like him saying im going to be thinking of you babygirl talk to you later and then she says my sexy baby boy and then she texts back agiain and says baby ?. Well he runs out and like throws his arms around me and says give me my phone ill explain. Well we get in the house and this is his storey he says this girl puts her number his coat pocket. And days later he texts and says who is this and they started talking like that. And they only talked about how she got fired from there. And then the day I caught him texting they was talking about what they like to do. and he only texted ill be thinking about you, was because she said it. Well im crushed that he did that to me. Me and him have been through a lot. He said that to her and then came over to my house, laying down with me kissing me. And then I go and get his phone and read that. He says he did it, for comforter, when he thought we was going to break up. Oh and he says he told her that he had a girlfriend and she replied and says well Ill be watching you and ehcking you out. And he told me he told her he was coming over to my house.Well ever since that has happen I have been very paranoid and always wanting his phone. He tells me he understand why im doing it. Well today we was at his friends house and I tell him let me look at your phone. And he says no i dont want you to make a scene. So im thinking ok you dont want me to look at your phone becuase im going to make a scene. So im thinking theres bad texts in there. So I get mad and go to the car and start crying and he comes over to the car and I say let me look at your phone and hes making exuces. Well I end up looking and there wasnt no bad texts. So i dont get it. We end up talking and then he says he cant do it. I tell him why he would make me think there was bad texts in there. Oh and I forgot to mention. I kept trying to call that girl that my boyfriend was texting to get the other side of the storey and she would not answer my calls and I was texting her saying I just want the other side of the storey, Im his girlfriend of a year an half and other ****. She would not text me back or anything. And then like 10 mins later she texts my boyfriend and says goodnight I guess I miss you. I dont get how she says that, he says he has never seen her, hung out with her or anything, that they have just texted. Well anyways, after the fight we went back to his house. And we was standing in the kitchen and he gets a text message and I say lets read it, he says lets go to the bathroom, so we did. Well he says its her, I say let me read it, he says no. I say why ? because you been texting her, and he says yea. And I say why, why would you do it to me again. He says, because im confused. well I say some other things, and I say im leaving. And then some how. He says stop and I start talking to him again. And he says I havent been I just sent her a text and said im not going to talk to you anymore, im with my girlfriend. Well I didnt get that and try to texplain that to him. When I ask you if you been talking to her, why would you replie and say yea, if you really havent been. And then tell me becuase your confused, if you really arent. Thats just making you look bad. and he says that has done that before and it has gotton him in more trouble. I just dont get it, why would he say he has been talking to her, if he really hasnt been. Why he wouldnt just say I texted her and say that, plus she hasnt been texting him, so why would he send her that text. oh and I ended up reading the text, it was his mom. I just kinda of look at it, like he was afraid of me reading a text from her, so i guess she would send him something bad. Idk what to do ? he says he will earn my trust.im just paranoid.

    Long were the nights when

My days once revolved around you

    Counting my footsteps

Praying the floor won’t fall through, again

My mother accused me of losing my mind

But I swore I was fine

You paint me a blue sky

And go back and turn it to rain

And I lived in your chess game

But you changed the rules everyday

Wonderin’ which version of you I might get on the phone, tonight

Well I stopped pickin’ up and this song is to let you know why

Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone

Don't you think I was too young

    To be messed with

    The girl in the dress

Cried the whole way home, I should've known.

    Well maybe it’s me

And my blind optimism to blame

Or maybe it’s you and your sick need

To give love and take it away

And you'll add my name to your long list of traitors who don't understand

And I'll look back in regret how I ignored when they said

'Run as fast as you can’

Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone

Don't you think I was too young

    To be messed with

    The girl in the dress

    Cried the whole way home

Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong

Don’t you think nineteen’s too young

To be played by your dark, twisted games

When I loved you so, I should've known.

You are an expert at sorry

    And keeping the lines blurry

Never impressed by me acing your tests

All the girls that you run dry have tired lifeless eyes

    Cause you burned them out

    But I took your matches

    Before fire could catch me

    So don’t look now

    I’m shining like fireworks

    Over your sad empty town

Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone

Don't you think I was too young

identify atleast two poetic device. Here are the lyrics

    Long were the nights when

My days once revolved around you

    Counting my footsteps

Praying the floor won’t fall through, again

My mother accused me of losing my mind

But I swore I was fine

You paint me a blue sky

And go back and turn it to rain

And I lived in your chess game

But you changed the rules everyday

Wonderin’ which version of you I might get on the phone, tonight

Well I stopped pickin’ up and this song is to let you know why

Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone

Don't you think I was too young

    To be messed with

    The girl in the dress

Cried the whole way home, I should've known.

    Well maybe it’s me

And my blind optimism to blame

Or maybe it’s you and your sick need

To give love and take it away

And you'll add my name to your long list of traitors who don't understand

And I'll look back in regret how I ignored when they said

'Run as fast as you can’

Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone

Don't you think I was too young

    To be messed with

    The girl in the dress

    Cried the whole way home

Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong

Don’t you think nineteen’s too young

To be played by your dark, twisted games

When I loved you so, I should've known.

You are an expert at sorry

    And keeping the lines blurry

Never impressed by me acing your tests

All the girls that you run dry have tired lifeless eyes

    Cause you burned them out

    But I took your matches

    Before fire could catch me

    So don’t look now

    I’m shining like fireworks

    Over your sad empty town

Dear John, I see it all now that you're gone

Don't you think I was too young

    To be messed with

    The girl in the dress

    Cried the whole way home

I see it all now that you're gone

Don't you think I was too young

    To be messed with

    The girl in the dress

Wrote you a song, you should’ve known.

    You should’ve known

Don’t you think I was too young

    You should’ve known
