  • a girls name to go with sister Rose.?

    I am looking for a name for a character. The story is aimed at 10-13 year olds. The character is a fiesty girl of around 11 or 12 years. Her elder sister, Rose drowned on a school trip. Convinced this was no accident and the culprit is one of Rose's fellow pupils, she sets out to solve the crime.

    I had penciled in Margaret but I think its too old fashioned. I had also thought of Ellie. Idea's please. Not too many suggestions in your answers though, great long lists are off putting. Surname is Parker.

    Other kids in the story are; Damon, Dhala/Darla (spelling is undecided), Clara, Mel (Melissa), Nic (Nicole) and Janice.

    Any comments on the other names is also welcome.

    Thanks

  • books in diary form; do they work?

    75,000 words into my current novel I am growing uncertain of the format. it is currently in diary form, which does have the advantage of immediacy and yet makes flow difficult.

    please answer my survey :-

    would you enjoy reading a book in diary form?

    or

    would you prefer something written as a memoir in 1st person past tense?

    thanks in advance.

  • To all lovers of vampire fiction?

    please check out my website and let me know if my new book 'Cassandra' appeals to you. I am looking for a publisher and have been advised by a marketing agent that the more people who look at my website and show interest in my work, the more likely I am to find a publisher. Once it's published you will be able to read it, so it works out well for you too if you help me.

    Many thanks in advance.

  • character name for an historical novel; short list?

    thank you to all those who answered my first question.

    i now have a short list;

    catherine - 15th katheryn, 17th kate, 19th kitty, 20th cat.

    margaret - margaret, meg, marge, maggy

    elizabeth - beth, lizzy, eliza, libby

    just to reitterate, she was born in 1973, so she is a 20th century (english) girl. she is from a middle class family. when she is 6 years old she is sent back in time to 1479, she is adopted by the local taylor and his wife, where she lives until she is 21. she then discovers she can time travel and spends her life between the late 15th, 17th, 19th and finally back to the 20th centuries.

    her name needs to fit all centuries and can be shortened to a different nick name for each time period. any other varient nicknames for the above welcome but no new names.

    thanks for your help!

  • character name for historical novel?

    i need a name for the lead character in my new novel.

    she is born in 1973 then at the age of 6 is sent back through time to 1479 where she remains until she is 21. after that she discovers that she can travel through time. she spends her life between the late 15th, 17th and 19th centurys. she eventually gets back to her own time in the late 20th. i need a name that is not out of place in any of these periods. i had originally called her sarah, but i have since grown to find this too bland for her. (its my own middle name so please dont take offence if your name is sarah).

    i have considered;

    rachael

    ruth

    rebecca

    joanna

    margaret

    it would also be nice if i could have a name that can be altered so that in each century its a little different.

    elizabeth - beth, eliza, lizzy

    catherine - kitty, kate

    please help me choose. any other suggestions welcome.

    thanks.
