  • What are Americans taught in school about British geography?

Just seen a few questions where people are quite clear that they think England and Britain are EXACTLY the same thing so I'd love to know what they teach you if anything at school about British geography.

  • Has anyone used socks for their dog's feet to keep the carpet clean when he comes in after the rain?

We are about to move into our new house and have gone for a fairly light coloured carpet (yellow labrador so at least the hair won't show!) But trying to find out if it is possible to get a dog to wear those socks. Can't seem to find any for indoors except the stupid impractical ones for small dogs. Any ideas welcome (apart from saying choose a dark carpet!)

  • I have problems verifying an email address?

I click to verify my new email address, they send a link to that email address which I then click on, and it opens a browser window saying

Oops, looks like you're logged into another account.

You do not appear to be logged into the Yahoo! account that this email address was added to. Please log into the account that you are trying to verify this email address to.

I tried logging in and out of my yahoo account and get the same message. I need to change to the new email address as the old one is beciming obsolete shortly.

  • Do any other countries show adverts DURING a final?

Here is Australia 2 nights ago they had a 3.5 minute advert break DURING the 9 minute 5000m womens steeplechase final! The mens final featured a 1.5 minute ad break - must have been because there was an Australian in race! How ridiculous is that - just wondered if that was an Australian thing. ( I can understand it in the marathon maybe or the triathlon but in a 9 minute race!!?)

  • (another) question about tipping...?

Sorry if this has been asked already but I really dont get the 'compulsory' tipping thing in the USA. If the wages are so low and tipping 15-20% is more or less mandatory and not just an indication which shows you got GOOD service, why would it be any different in a buffet restaurant. Surely the staff there are being paid just as poorly as the waiters in a full service restaurant so why pay one more than the other? Also what about the pot cleaner in the kitchen.I'm sure he doesn't get paid more than the waiter and from what I understand most tips go directly to the person not shared between all staff. Doesn't seem fair.

  • How do you measure a cup of butter?

I live in Aus but have a few American cook books and instead of ounces or grams it always uses cups which is fine for dry or liquid ingredients but when it says a cup of butter whats the easiest way to measure....literally cram it in there??? The butter is generally not the shape of the cup and sometimes I want to keep it chilled so cant soften it to make it fit! Or is there an easy way where you know that a cup equates to a certain number of ounces or grams?? The butter generally doesnt fit t
