  • How do de-emphasis a sentence like this?

De-emphasize) Since we can send e-mail messages to only three offices—Knoxville, Charleston, and Baton Rouge--I will fax these documents to you after seven o’clock.

I put the dashes and commas in, but that is how you emphasis, right. My book says to emphais with dashes and de-emphasis with parenthesis. But how do you deemphsis with commas in the middle? Dashes and commas go together with de-emphasising but how do you deemphasis?

I have to answer this for homework and take a test. Help!

  • Do you view life as "succeed or fail" or do you view it as "Life is great and fun with lots of new fun experiences"?

In your own opinion, how do you view it as it is right now? Now, it can be a mixture of both right? It is true that if you don't succeed in life, you fail. But at the same time, it's just a fun experience. And it's something that we should be happy about for having as we experience it.

    My side:

I am a college student. I am trying to get my education, my college degree, and get a good career with a good-paying job. if i don't succeed in college, it's going to be rough on me in the future. I worry for my future. How I see it right now, I see it as a "succeed or fail". I am starting to notice that jobs are scarce. Having a high school diploma isn't going to get me anywhere. I know hanging out with my friends in life is fun but, I have to focus on the bigger thing which is college. Only these last 4 years of education can determine where my success stands. Whether I drop out of college or not can really affect me. I feel like I am pressured to have a college degree in order to even find a decent job. Of course people aren't pressured to stay in college, and that they can just drop out of college if they wanted, but I'm not that kind of person. I fear failure so that's why I am doing the best I can.

  • If 100 people (specifically, adult males) were lined up standing shoulder-to-shoulder, what would be the length of the line thus formed?

I am specifically considering a military formation in linear warfare, so they might not be exactly shoulder-to-shoulder, but have some space between them for firing muzzle-loading muskets.

  • Why do people link AIDS with being gay?

    I'm genuinely curious.

It honestly annoys me when people immediately associate it with being gay.

I, myself, am in a same sex relationship, but the only people I know that talk about HIV and AIDS are gay friends of mine, gay Facebook pages, and straight people that associate it with being gay.

It seems almost like its become a stereotype, and when its mainly the gay community addressing it, it personally doesnt help the matter.

I mean, sure, its always good to create awareness for such infections, but it seems to me like it is the ONLY infection/disease that the gay community addresses, which I think will only encourage homophobes to continue to call me, and other LGBT "AIDS ridden *******".

I hope you can understand what I am saying. I just feel like the LGBT community is emphasizing its own stereotype.

I'm not sure about any stats or anything. Is AIDS more common in the LGBT community? If so, why?

Sorry if this offends anyone in any sort of way. That definitely isn't what I am aiming for. Just wondering why the LGBT community emphasizes HIV and AIDS more than any other community (and in doing so, attracting the attention of homophobes).
