  • Am I the only one who doesn't like Slayer?

I've listened to dozens and dozens of metal bands in every sub-genre and really love metal a lot, but no matter how many times I come back to them and how hard I try, I cannot for the life of me get into Slayer. Yes, the band that you get slammed for disliking and the supposed "truest" thrash band out there.

I feel like I should like them, but there is NOTHING about them that grabs my interest at all. I even tried the Reign in Blood album, and couldn't get past the first two songs without wanting to try something else.

Is there something wrong with me? I feel like I'm the only metal fan who can't get into Slayer. Am I the only one?

  • Metalheads: If there was a big 4 of classic/traditional heavy metal, who would they be?

I would say, based on popularity and influence, that the big 4 of classic metal would be Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, and Black Sabbath. Maybe add Manowar in there as well if there were a big 5. What do you guys think?

  • Bands who weren't metal at the start but became metal later?

I'm just curious if there are any bands like that, because I can only think of bands who did the aversion: Started out as metal but changed to something else later.

  • What exactly IS alternative metal (read description)?

Seriously, I see the term thrown around a lot and many (if not most) bands labeled alt-metal aren't metal AT ALL. I've seen bands like Three Days Grace, Chevelle, and Seether labeled as alt-metal, but they only have some heavy riffs, but other than that, there is little to nothing metal about them.

Some bands with the label, however, like Sevendust, Alice in Chains, Godsmack, Deftones, and Slipknot definitely have a metal sound. Radio-friendly and a bit melodic at that, but still metal.

So, what exactly is alternative metal? Is it a metal sub-genre or a rock sub-genre? Is every band under that label a metal group? I don't understand.

  • Metal fans: Kreator vs Sodom vs Destruction?

Let's have a German thrash battle, shall we? Here's how it is for me and why.

    1. Destruction. Best riffs, most consistent (excluding the horrid Human Cannonball album), most energy, thrashiest, and overall most true to their sound out of the 3. I was sold on first listen and they haven't let me down. I'm a fan.

    2. Kreator. It took me a bit to warm up to them, but the time I took to listen to them was worth it. I even bought their latest album. While they changed their sound during the 1990s, it wasn't bad and was actually pretty good. As an overall band, they're great, but as far as pure thrash goes, Destruction is still the best to me. I'd consider myself a fan, though.

    3. Sodom. Easily my least favorite of the three. I find them inconsistent, the singer's voice isn't that good, and their sound isn't really my cup of tea. I don't hate or strongly dislike the band; I did enjoy War and Pieces, their latest album, quite a bit. They have some great stuff besides that, too, but I wouldn't consider myself a fan of them.

So, tell me what you guys think! Thrash 'til death!

BQ: If you could make your own big 4 of thrash metal, who would you pick if you couldn't keep any of the actual big 4 (no, not even Slayer)? I'd pick Exodus, Testament, Overkill, and Death Angel.

BQ2: Favorite band out of the actual big 4? Mine is easily Megadeth, with Slayer as a close second.

BQ3: Albums you're excited for? I'm looking forward to Periphery's and Testament's new albums this summer.

BQ4: Fries or onion rings? (Sorry, just for fun)

  • Metal fans: Orphaned Land, yay or nay?

A definite yay for me. Plus, how often do you hear a metal band from Israel? Their country's music is shown in their influences, and that sounds really cool.

BQ: Who are your favorite metal vocalists and why?

BQ2: What bands got you into metal, and do you still like them today?

BQ3: Most anticipated releases this year?

BQ4: Favorite albums of the year so far?

    Have a nice day. \m/

  • Metal fans: A song from Meshuggah's upcoming album leaked recently. Anybody heard it?

I just did, and I thought it was great. I hope the whole album is just as good, if not better.

  • Guys: do you have a good/best friend who is a girl, and if so, how do you feel about them?

I do! Sadly, I like her, but she has a boyfriend (who she's been dating for over a year, a long time for our age) who she loves very much. It doesn't matter so much to me though, because she's always there for me no matter what, and we care about each other very much. She's also very selective with who she's friends with, which is why I feel so lucky to have her.

  • To those who like Sepultura: do you like the Max Cavalera era best, the Derrick Green era best, or both?

So many people like the Cavalera era better, but I like both eras (I'm not a huge fan of the two albums before 'Arise', though). I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoy the music with Derrick on vocals a lot.

  • Going early Christmas shopping today, which of these game bundles should I get?

Should I get a used Wii and the special edition bundle of Skyward Sword, or a new Wii and the regular edition of Skyward Sword?

P.S. I'm a big Zelda fan, almost done with high school and been playing since I was 8.

  • What does my friend mean when she says "I sometimes listen to 'little kid' music"?

I know it's a bit of a dumb question, but what does that mean? Like, bubblegum pop music? Songs from musicals?
